"KATIE" TV Listings for the week of Oct. 1st

Next week Katie Couric touches on sleeping tips, bullying, reality TV, American's sex lives, and extreme hazing issues.

via press release

**Schedule is Subject to Change**

Viewers invite Katie into their homes every day and today, Katie turns the tables on her biggest fans when they are invited to her home, literally, for an hour-long show shot from every single room in her NYC apartment! "Late Night" host Jimmy Fallon, Donald Trump, Bravo's Andy Cohen and Food Network's Sunny Anderson join in the fun as Katie shares sleeping tips from her bedroom, skincare tips from her bathroom and learns all about how to make healthier meatloaf in her own kitchen – Plus, Katie is treated to a surprise living room performance by the man who made her teenage heart flutter.

"Katie" delves into the bullying epidemic in America, with two exclusive interviews with families that have been on the receiving end of some of the most egregious examples in recent memory. In her first post homecoming television interview, West Branch, Michigan, teen Whitney Kropp and her family join "Katie" to share the remarkable story of how she overcame a cruel homecoming hoax to become an anti-bullying hero. After years of being bullied, the 16-year-old was excited to be named to the homecoming court at   Ogemaw Heights High School.   Her delight quickly faded when it became clear that it was all part of a vicious prank to ridicule and humiliate her. After Whitney and her family went public with her story and her decision to attend anyway as a way of standing up to those who had tried to embarrass her, there was an outpouring of public support and encouragement, including local businesses who offered their goods and services for the evening. Also sharing her story is San Diego area teen Katie Uffens who says she was forced to change schools after a group of kids in her school created a "Kill Katie Klub" and began recruiting other students to join in putting her down.

Reality TV isn't just entertainment, it's an obsession. On today's edition of "Katie," viewers hear from their favorite reality stars, including breakout star Kate Gosselin. From Abby Lee Miller, of "Dance Moms'" who talks for the first time about her new show, "Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition" to the cast of "Gold Rush," and "Long Island Medium's" Theresa Caputo, fans will hear exactly what happens behind the scenes from the scene-stealers themselves.

"Katie" takes a look at the secret sex lives of Americans and brings to light what is really happening behind closed doors, online, and in sex clubs across the country. Katie interviews New York Times best-selling author Suzy Spencer whose book "Secret Sex Lives: A Year on the Fringes of American Sexuality" is an investigation into what people are really doing in their private, and sometimes public, lives.

Plus, the woman behind one of the most influential organizations of our generation, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, sits down with Katie.  And Katie introduces "Women Who Should Be Famous," a new recurring segment in partnership with Dove. In this first of twelve installments, Katie shares the story of Suzanne Nichols, founder of Save the Arts. Nichols, a teacher and a mentor in Los Angeles, is on a mission to save public school art programs from California state budget cuts.

Just days before 12 members of the renowned Florida A&M marching band go on trial for the hazing death of drum major Robert Champion, Katie sits down for an exclusive interview with Robert's parents. Also, actor and motivational speaker Hill Harper goes into the field to speak with two of Robert's former band mates, one of whom faces trial next week, about what happened on the night he died.

Here's a few sound (word) bites from Sofia Vergara's visit to Katie yesterday,  (I did not know that she was a cancer survivor!)

via press release

"Modern Family" star and noted entrepreneur Sofia Vergara (recently named the top earning female celebrity by Forbes Magazine) gets candid on today's episode of "Katie," Katie Couric's new, nationally syndicated talk show (check local listings, Vergara dishes on everything from her much-talked about Emmy Awards wardrobe malfunction and her dance video at the HBO post-Emmy party going viral to beating thyroid cancer. She also chats about her character's pregnancy on this season of ABC's "Modern Family" and addresses the possibility of having more children herself in the future, saying, "maybe next year I can think about it."  Since another topic covered on today's episode was breastfeeding in public, Couric asked Vergara for her thoughts on the subject:  "Would you ever breastfeed in public?" The star laughed and said: "No! It's not enough for you that I sent out a picture tweeting of my broken dress? And now you want me to breastfeed in public? Try to control yourself!"

Sofia Vergara's on her Emmy Awards Wardrobe Malfunction :

KC: But before you came you later tweeted out that you had a wardrobe malfunction before the show. What happened?

SV: Well it was so funny because you know I always tried to pick my dress, something that I would never wear. I mean where else am I going to wear a dress like that but to an event like that? So I take advantage of that and I want to go with the best that I can, the more flashy, the more you know – I'm not going to go with a black dress.

KC: No? Boring.

SV: Of course. So I guess sometimes I want it to be perfect and tight. They're very delicate those dresses. And I guess now that you showed me this Ryan Seacrest thing, now I know where it came from, where it started ripping. It must have been there. You're not supposed to be doing those dance moves there.

KC: You tweeted it out, right? And basically you let it all hang out on your tweet. We had to cover up some of the inappropriate shots. But you were so funny about it.

SV: Because we were in the middle of the show, well not in the middle, almost at the end. And Julie was coming back from doing press from winning the Emmy, and it was in like the intermission or the commercial. And I see her and she was sitting behind me, so I got up, I wanted to take a picture with her and her Emmy and whatever. So I see my boyfriend Nick running behind me, "Noooo." And I was like, "What?" And they're like, "Come back. Sit down!" And I'm like, "No, the commercial is not done. Let me take a picture." They usually make you sit down because the show is starting.

KC: Right. So how did you fix it?

SV: Well I didn't pay attention to them and everybody saw my booty in that area. And then, I thought it was something small that maybe, I don't know, I never thought it was like a curtain that opened the whole thing. So but then when I saw Ed O'Neill, I see him like, when I showed him, Oh my god this is bad. So we waited until the next commercial. I sat through a whole segment. So I wanted to fix it or do something, because I had a feeling we were going to win, and I didn't want to miss the opportunity to go up there.

KC: Right, because your dress was ripped.

SV: How many times in my life – I mean I've already have 3 times – but who knows how many more times I'm going to have to experience going up there with my whole cast and everything?  So I went downstairs. Those ladies, I don't know where they found them. They took me underneath the stage. They sewed me in. I didn't even take the dress off.

KC: And then they just pushed you out back there.

Sofia Vergara on loving her body :

KC: Anyway, I love how open and funny you are about your body. I know, I read this article in Allure magazine, you're on the cover and it's a beautiful photo, lots of pretty photos in that issue. But you talked about the fact that you're a 32F, that's your bra size.

SV: I don't have anything to hide.

KC: Clearly!

SV: I'm very proud of my body and the way I look. I would be ungrateful to be saying, "Oh, I'm so mad because people just look at me and see my pretty face" and all that stuff. I mean, no, I thank god for what he has given me and I take advantage of it.

Sofia Vergara on not feeling sexier at 40 than she did at 20:

KC: I know that you turned 40 this year. Do you feel sexier today than you did when you were say, 20?

SV: No.

KC: No? You don't? Come on! You must.

SV: It's a lie. Everybody tells me, "You look better now." That's not true. I'm not complaining, I feel great for a 40-year-old, yeah, fantastic. But you cannot compare the firmness, everything, when you're 20- years-old. It's the truth. You have more hair. More everything. No pores. Come on.

Sofia Vergara on why she isn't excited about her character being pregnant on ABC's "Modern Family":

KC: How do you think it's going to change the show to have a baby onboard? What's that going to do, you think?

SV: Well it's going to change for me because my hours of shooting with Ed [O'Neill] and Rico [Rodriguez] they're very fast because we come prepared, we do it fast, it's very professional. And Rico too, he's like an adult. And now with a baby…they cry, then bring the other one, the new one, they diaper…so we're dreading it.

Sofia Vergara on the possibility of having another child in the future :

KC: Now that you're 40, would you ever have another baby?

SV: Well I don't know. I never thought that I could have another baby because I feel I'm already 40-years-old, but I realized most of my American girlfriends are my age and they still don't have kids. So I guess if I wanted to do it, I could do it, it's not like that's impossible. But you know I'm so busy right now, like this year. Maybe next year I can think about it. Because I can be selfish if I'm with somebody that doesn't have kids, you know you have to compromise. I said a baby, but only baby, not baby and dog.

Sofia Vergara on the video of her dancing post-Emmys going viral:

KC: Were you surprised when you saw that that was plastered all over the internet?

SV: Yeah, because it was supposed to be at the HBO party where everything is like security and everything but you forget that people have their phones now and they can film you.

KC: Right, Prince Harry learned about that. It's true. You can run but you can't hide anymore.

SV: It's crazy. And you know, that wasn't really my fault. It was my family that was like "Go together. Dance, dance." I wasn't going to tell them no. So I went and danced a little.

KC: You did it for them. That was so selfless of you Sofia.

Sofia Vergara on beating thyroid cancer

KC: I think people don't sometimes realize that you've gone through some challenges and you've faced adversity in your own life. You were diagnosed with thyroid cancer, what, 12 years ago? Which was very scary. You had surgery and radioactive iodine treatments. And I know that was a terrifying time for you.

SV: Well it was terrifying because at that age I was very young and I had my son.

KC: He was 10 at the time, right?

SV: Yeah. And when they tell you that word, no matter what, you panic. The word, "cancer," even though you know, sometimes it's very curable, sometimes it's not, you never know, it's also about good luck. So it was a matter of taking care of it and having hope and going through it and you never know. Once you've had a sickness like that you always have that in the back of your mind. But it's a good thing, if you beat cancer your priorities change completely.

KC: And I like what you said, you said don't sweat the small stuff. But you also said you have to go on, if not for yourself, but for the people you love.

SV: For the other people, yeah. You cannot just sit and think, "Why did I get this?" Just keep going because what else can you do?

KC: Would you breastfeed in public?

SV: No! It's not enough for you that I sent out a picture tweeting of my broken dress? And now you want me to breastfeed in public? Try to control yourself.

Travel Channel presents "Bacon Paradise 2: Another Slab!" October 3 on Food Paradise

Is there such a thing as too much?

via press release:

This week's headlines predict a shortage of pork and bacon in the global markets next year due to poor harvests not supplying pig herders with enough feed.  But there's no shortage of bacon on Travel Channel as it kicks off a new season of  the weekly half-hour series "Food Paradise," premiering on Wednesday, October 3 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, with  the episode aptly named,  "Bacon Paradise 2: Another Slab!"

In "Food Paradise," Travel Channel has compiled all the must-see spots across the country to have a one-of-a-kind dining experience.  Fantastic food is often-times more important to many travelers than museums, hotels, and souvenirs, and the network is serving up hefty plates of the country's tastiest, most mouth-watering, and decadent meals.

In the premiere episode, the focus is on bacon.  And after watching this episode, viewers may be inspired to bring home the bacon and put it in frozen storage in preparation for the anticipated 2013 shortage!  Bacon is not just for breakfast anymore.  Every year, American restaurants serve more than 1.7 billion pounds of cured pork belly in everything from cocktails to dessert.

"Bacon Paradise 2: Another Slab" celebrates the art of sizzling swine beginning with a bacon bastion in Austin, Texas that's actually named Bacon.  In addition to curing and smoking their own bacon and coming up with new concoctions every day, they serve up their signature Bacon Reuben.  Then in Boise, Idaho, viewers will discover John Berryhill's Bacon, where they make a killer bacon lasagna.  In Santa Rosa, California, the audience will learn about gourmet black pig bacon, before heading to Grub in Los Angeles to find breakfast bacon so addictive, they call it crack.  Continuing on to Chicago, a pub called Paddy Long's is famous for their beer-and-bacon pairings, as well as a five-pound concoction of bacon wrapped around sausage dubbed the "Bacon Bomb!"  From there, bacon-lovers head down the street to the Chicago forum for the city's annual bacon-fest, where prime purveyors of cured pig compete for the coveted Golden Rasher, which is awarded for the most creative use of bacon.  In Denver, a restaurant called The Berkshire has created a peanut butter, banana and bacon King Sandwich in homage to Elvis Presley.  And the bacon round-up concludes in New York City with The Baconery, where bacon and baked goods collide!  No matter how you slice it, bacon's salty, smoky flavor can elevate any meal to porcine perfection.

The Bachelor Season 17 Bachelor Announced!

via press release

An Unprecedented Response from Women Clamoring to Date Sean on the Show

Leads to the Consensus -- He is a Catch!

A heavy sigh went out from millions of viewers as they shared Sean Lowe's heartbreak when Emily Maynard – who all season long called him the "perfect man" -- made him the last bachelor eliminated before the finale of the eighth edition of "The Bachelorette." It completely blindsided Sean, who finally had been able to admit to Emily that he was in love with her. Now, after falling for Emily, Sean knows the time is right for him to make the ultimate commitment to the right woman and to start his own family, as he stars in the next edition of ABC's hit romance reality series, "The Bachelor," when it returns to ABC for its 17th season in January 2013.

Sean, 28, a successful Dallas businessman and entrepreneur, totally charmed Bachelor Nation when he pranked Emily on his hometown date, fooling her into thinking initially that he still lived at home with his parents. Having fallen in love on "The Bachelorette," this sincere, reliable all-American guy is confident that he will find his soul mate and a lasting, love-filled relationship this time on "The Bachelor."

A real romantic, Sean loves to make a woman feel special and, as a life-long Texan, holds Southern values close to his heart. He wants to propose once, be married once and live a faithful family life, like his parents, who have had a loving 35-year union. Sean has a clear vision of what his life would be like with that one special woman. He wants to be the patriarch of a family that is centered on faith, love and laughter. He is eager to be a supportive husband who will encourage his wife to chase her dreams, as well as be someone whom she can rely on to help her through good and bad times. Quite simply, he is looking for his best friend. Sean also wants a big family and would love to adopt a child, as well as have some of his own, as long as he can pass on the values he has taught his kids.

His close-knit family includes a sister, Shay, who was introduced to her husband by Sean. The two men were best friends on their college football team. Shay and her husband have two children, whom Sean adores.

The 6'3" bachelor went to Kansas State on a full football scholarship and, as a linebacker, was part of the 2003 Big 12 Conference Championship Team. Sean also received a Bachelor of Science degree in social science. Although he started off his career in finance, he followed in his father's footsteps in the insurance industry before committing to his new enterprise, owning and running an upscale, custom furniture business.

Sean has varied hobbies and interests, including camping, wakeboarding, dancing, outdoor activities, attending concerts and doing just about anything with his two dogs, Lola and Ellie.

Hosted by Chris Harrison, "The Bachelor" is produced by Next Entertainment in association with Warner Horizon Television. Mike Fleiss and Martin Hilton are the executive producers.

San Diego, CA, -- September 24, 2012 – The San Diego Film Foundation is thrilled to announce their complete slate for the 2012 San Diego Film Festival.   Documentaries include Windy Borman's The Eyes of Thailand, narrated by Ashley Judd, which tells the true and inspirational story of one woman's quest to help elephant landmine survivors and Jessica Yu's Last Call at the Oasis, with Erin Brokovich, which presents a powerful argument for why the global water crisis will be the central issue facing our world this century.  Also making its West Coast premiere is A Sisters Call, which follows a woman's 14-year search for her missing schizophrenic brother.

Short films run the gamut of genres and include Blind, directed by "The Mentalist" producer Gloria Calderon Kellett and John Arlotto, about a blind date with unexpected results, and Jake Hoffman's directorial debut Please, Alfonso with Alice Eve.  Also playing are short films Cadaver, a macabre nursery rhyme starring Christopher Lloyd and fashion icon Tavi Gevinson – which is also being published as a picture book for Adults this fall - and The Carrier, which has an all-star cast including Anna Paquin and Chad Michael Murray.  This year SDFF also introduces a Native American shorts track, with films made by Native American filmmakers, featuring Native American actors.

Foreign entries include Sundance winner Teddy Bear (Denmark) about a painfully shy bodybuilder looking for love and Anche Se e' Amore Non Si Vede (Italy), a wonderfully raucous, sweet-natured comedy about tour guides on an English double-decker bus.

On the Tuesday, September 25th edition of the nationally-syndicated talk show, KATIE, (check local listings, Barbra Streisand, one of the world's most influential and incomparable entertainers, opens up in a rare television interview with Katie Couric. Streisand talks about the upcoming duets album she's working on with 'Babyface' Edmonds that features her first duet with her son, Jason Gould. According to Streisand, "When I heard the things he's recorded, the musicianship, the sound of his voice, it's like he has a little chamber music orchestra right in his vocal chords." When Couric asks what other musicians she would like to sing with, Streisand responds: "I like Keith Urban, I like Usher and John Legend. You know there are some really good guys around." Couric and Streisand discuss the icon's ongoing influence for the next generation of performers including Glee's, Lea Michele and Streisand also opens up her sixteen year marriage with James Brolin, her brand new album, "Release Me," and her passion project, the Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles.

Preview of Conversation With Barbara Streisand

KC: Tell us a little bit about the duets album you're working on with Babyface Edmonds. Who would you like to ideally, if you had your druthers of all the singers in the world – other than me – who would you like to sing a duet with?
BS: Oh gosh, there's so many good guys. First of all, Babyface has a great voice. He's wonderful. I'm doing this with him producing and Walter Afanasieff, Walter A. Well, there's so many people. Bocelli.
KC: That would be killer.
BC: We've been talking about singing together for a long time, but I send him songs, he sends me songs. The twain hasn't met yet, you know? I like Keith Urban. I like Usher. John Legend. There's some really good guys around.
KC: Yeah, that would be exciting.

Actually, my very, very exciting duet partner is my son.
KC: That's so nice. Jason, right? Does he do a lot of singing?
BS: You know I used to sing with him when he was a baby. When I came home from work, we would sing together. And then when he was 15, I heard this gorgeous hum from behind his door. And I went, "Jason, is that you?" [Son's Response] "Mom go away." [Barbra] "Open the door, Jason." [Son's Response] "Mom, no it's OK." But I heard him hum, right? And a few years ago he said, "You know I've started to sing and work on some music," and I said, "Really?" And this is a tough spot to enter that profession for him, I suppose. And I tell you, when I heard the things he's recorded, the musicianship, the sound of his voice, it's like he has a little chamber music orchestra right in his vocal chords. I don't know what it is. His sweetness, his inventiveness musically. I said, "Jason, I have to sing with you. You have to be on my duets album." Not only that, "You have to come," – He's never performed live.
KC: And he's going to performing with you in Brooklyn?
BS: [Nods yes]

KC: Your husband, James Brolin
BS: Yeah…
KC: I know this sounds like it's going to be something inappropriate, but it's not at all. I was just going to say, he is just so incredibly handsome. I mean, don't you agree? Seriously?
BS: It is so interesting to see someone that well delineated, you know, just from a structural point of view. I love architecture. How do some people just get everything perfect, like the jaw line, the teeth, the eyes, the depth, the forehead? So he fascinates me.
KC: And you guys have been married for how long now?
BS: We're together sixteen years. Can you believe it?

KC: I know that you've inspired the next generation of performers so much.  Lea Michele, who's on Glee, I think you're clearly her role model. I'm speaking for her but I think it's pretty obvious. But she's been encouraged to get her nose done, and she's been very strong about it and said she's not going to do it, that Barbra Streisand didn't do hers.
BS: That's real? That's not just in the show?
KC: No, no, I think that's real. That's real.
BS: Good for her.
KC: That's what she really believes.
BS: You never could tell. It might change the sound of your voice. The guy might botch it up and make it worse than it was. You just don't know.
