A review of 'Scarecrow' on Syfy

Scarecrow starts out with a few kids running through a corn field.  The girl wants to stop but her boy buddy insists they keep going because the prank they have planned is worthy it.  They find their way into a barn and manage to have an accident.  The girl starts bleeding out from her wound, but then the blood seems to go away, getting absorbed... by something in the ground below them.  Then our unfortinate boy is attacked by...  something.

We then flash over to the town's annual scarecrow festival, and we're introduced to various characters.  Some insidious (Nikki (Maxwell) and Tyler (Harmon)), some nice kids, and Mr. Aaron Harris (Dunne).  It seems this is an all day detention experience of these kids.

The all day detention takes them to the original site of the scarecrow festival, an old farm with a haunted past.  They're going to dismantle the old equipment to take to the new festival location in town.

As the gang starts to gather, Aaron's ex, Kristen (Chabert) shows up to also help.  This is Kristen's family place and she plays down the curses and haunting rumors.

But once the gang is all together and start heading to the house, things start to happen in the corn field.  One girl gets dragged away, but as they save her, another one goes sliding through the corn maze, and then another.

And thus the story begins.

As the movie started, they didn't waste too much time getting through the character intros and into the action.  Aside from the first attacks, the action picks up just a little after the fifteen minute mark.  By the first hour's chime, the story almost seemed wrapped up, but continued in the torment of the characters still kicking.

To be honest, this was one of the better Saturday night Syfy movies that I've seen on the network.  No, it wasn't phenomenal, but unlike some of the Saturday night movies, the effects were well done and there were a few good moments.  The script wasn't horrible and though at times, it felt like it was dragging on, well, again, I go back to the first line about how this was one of their better TV movies.

If you see it in your TV schedule, you don't have to run or consume too much beer to get through it.

Scarecrow was a fun flick for an October Halloween themed airing from Syfy.
