Why Was the TNT TV Schedule Messed Up This Weekend? (6-29/30-13)

Last night (Saturday, 6-29-13) I had turned on The Transporter 3, or at least I had clicked on the item on my Comcast menu.  But instead, I ended up watching The Hero and 72 Hours.

Right now my Comcast menu schedule shows that I should be watching Falling Skies and then some Law and Order.  Instead, I have a NASCAR race on.

As you may all know, I never complain about a NASCAR race, but for many of you, I am betting it's quite the grievance.

And that IS why the schedule was messed up all weekend, NASCAR.

-

Turns out that NASCAR was supposed to have a Saturday night race telecast from Sparta, Kentucky.  But rather than a race, we had a huge rain delay. Mother nature was flexing her muscles and showing off that no man or sport is bigger than she is.

The telecast, as is true to form, stuck around through the rain delay.  And through it all, they kept saying they would get the race going soon.

They have to say that, even when the weather radar says something else.  Something about sponsors, ads and keeping the TV viewers engaged on the telecast, thus the targeted ads would still be reaching that intended target audience.

But when the NASCAR telecast ran over too long, or short, depending on the event, TNT just picked up their telecast schedule at an odd spot.  And they stayed with it.

The menu on Comcast is subject to what Comcast receives from the network, and it seemed the network did not update their schedule.

Now, (Sunday, 6-30-13), TNT is airing the rain-delayed race.  So your TV schedule for the day is going to be even more messed up.

I have no clue if they're going to adjust on-the-fly to air their Sunday night schedule, but I presume they might.  If not, well, it's NASCAR and the demographic draw it has on viewers that have caused this to happen.

I thought you'd like to know.

'The Watch' Review - Comedy At Its Usual

The Watch with Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill - a review
In The Watch, Evan (Ben Stiller) is the consummate community member.  He's on every board, started many community programs, and is the Costco manager.  Things go horribly awry when his night watchman is killed by... something.

Evan decides to start a community watch group and holds a meeting at his place...  but instead of the turn out he hoped for, he gets Bob (Vince Vaughn), Franklin (Jonah Hill) and Jamarcus (Richard Ayoade) showing up.

It's a disappointing turnout, but there's a lot of energy in this group.  That is, once they moved the meeting to Bob's place, where all the beer is.  Yes, Bob is the bad influence of the group.

And the chase is on for the Costco murderer.

-

The Watch is directed by Akiva Schaffer (MacGruber, Saturday Night Live TV series) and one of the writers is Seth Rogen.  Sort of explains some of the raunchy language that comes out of the screen at times.

If you like these actors, it's pretty much what you would expect from them, except they're all together in the same movie.

I'm not a huge comedy movie watcher, and this movie is an atypical comedic effort at preventing an alien invasion.  The first act was cute.  The second act slowed down a bit but the third act has a nice twist or two and gets a bit funnier.

The closing action made it interesting.  And the aliens were actually well done.

I'm glad I didn't drop movie theater money on it.  I would have been OK dropping rental funds on it, and I think if it comes up on your cable pay channel or TV, it should be great fun.

On the static popcorn movie scale, I'd give The Watch a popcorn 6.

R.I.P.D. Trailer, The Perfect Film for Ryan Reynolds (Yes, That was Marisa Miller)

Comic book fans are probably pretty excited to see the first movie trailer for R.I.P.D., starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges.

Quick film synopsis:

"A recently slain cop joins a team of undead police officers working for the Rest in Peace Department (R.I.P.D.) and tries to find the man who murdered him."

It looks like a ghostly good time and popcorn fun movie.  And it seems, from this clip, that this is a good role for Reynolds.  Unlike that Green Lantern stint he did.  (He was just off a little bit in that role for me.)

And if you pay attention, you'll catch my favorite super model of all time, self-proclaimed tomboy, ex-Victoria's Secret fashion model, Marisa Miller.  Looking as good as ever!!!

If anyone ever followed my original website, I reported her involvement with R.I.P.D. back in 2011. And then appropriately forgot about it!

RIPD opens in movie theaters on July 19th, 2013.  Dang!  Right during Comic-Con, but just before my birthday!

Check out this FULL 3-minute trailer:

{YouTube Link}

(When I first heard about this movie, I was more meh about it, but this looks fun.  [There I go, falling for the marketing!])

'Big Brother 15' Brings Even More Boobs and Brawn This Season

'Big Brother' 15 cast
It seems that this time around CBS really went out of their way to find new contestants for the Big Brother house.  They obviously perused plastic surgeon patient lists to populate the girls side of the house.

On the other hand, we have an interesting mix of man-boys...  from pizza delivery boys, to train engineers.  And everything in between.

It took only 10 minutes for quick personality intro videos and we found ourselves standing outside the house, looking at the legs and chests, lined up to run inside and find their bunk!

GinaMarie Zimmerman from 'Big Brother 15'

GinaMarie Zimmerman
is the most noticeable, on many levels, of the girls.  She's loud, screams a lot, is bright blonde and has the best plastic surgeon of all of them.  Geez.  (But she giggles them and claims they're real.  So you be the judge.)

And if she looks familiar, that's because she seems to be working on her career...  she's a Bud Light Fantasy girl, Bandini pinup girl,  and has been a Maxim Hometown Hottie.  >> starcasm.net

Regardless, guys watching the show will be happy, no matter who they focus on.

Then there's the lifeguard, David.  Wow...  he works hard.  On his tan and checks the mirror often to check his abs.  (He said that, not me!)

Howard is the iron body of the group, and McCrae, the pizza delivery boy, seems to have a huge issue.  NO ONE believes he's a delivery boy, but thinks he's the genius of the bunch.

Elissa seems familiar to everyone... that's because she's the near identical twin sister to Rachel Reilly.  Remember her?

And during the intros to each other, everyone had a semi-decent intro bit except, well, except the lifeguard...  he stands up and says..."I'm David and, uh, yea."

That's all they showed.  If he said anything else, CBS didn't show it.

-

This time around, instead of two house-guests nominated for eviction, there will be three.

And we quickly jump into the first competition for HoH (Head of Household).  Of course the first two guys that fall off the challenge say they threw it.

McCrae (Pizza boy) won the first HoH.

And now we find out how the eviction nominees get chosen... HoH will nominate 2.  America will vote for the most valuable player in the house and that player chooses the third nominee.

Oh, and the BB MVP can do all this, anonymously.  Niiice!

Seriously? The 'Terminator' Franchise is Getting Rebooted?

When I saw the headlines yesterday that the the fifth Terminator movie, being referred to as Terminator 5, could be looking like a reboot of the franchise, I got confused and slightly annoyed.

I didn't mind the last installment of the Terminator franchise from McG... it was fun popcorn time.

But now the news is that they're calling this fifth film a reboot of the franchise, as it will be a first of a film trilogy.

At least that's what folks are surmising from the press release.

The lore of Terminator and Google, I mean Skynet, has been a very strong filament in our society.  The films have endured the test of time and we quote and regale the franchise time and time again.

Sure, some of the films in the franchise tested our senses and drove us back underground away from the films, but others, were just fun to watch and absorb.

So for the moment, I'm on the fence about rebooting this timeless classic.  But looking at the press release, I'm thinking the creative powers behind this new project could make it work.

But seriously, more reboots?  Sigh.  That's an entirely different thought process I won't go into here.  And I won't even begin to touch on the rumors and what not about who will be attached to star.  We'll let the actual subsequent news announcements (and not rumors or actors spouting how they want to be in somethig) sort that out.

press release:

Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures have jointly announced they will partner on a rebooted "TERMINATOR" movie, to be released by Paramount Pictures on June 26, 2015.

The first in a stand-alone trilogy, "TERMINATOR" will be produced by Megan Ellison of Annapurna and David Ellison of Skydance. Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake of Skydance will serve as executive producers. Laeta Kalorgridis ("Avatar," "Shutter Island") and Patrick Lussier ("Drive Angry") are attached to write the screenplay.

Launched in 1984 with star Arnold Schwarzenegger as the title character, "TERMINATOR" spanned 3 subsequent films, which have earned over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

David Ellison most recently executive produced, along with his partners at Paramount, "World War Z," "Star Trek Into Darkness," "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" and "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol". A 5th installment of in the "Mission: Impossible" franchise is in active development, along with a 3rd film in the "G.I. Joe" franchise, among other films.

Megan Ellison most recently produced the Academy Award®-nominated "Zero Dark Thirty," "The Master" and executive produced "Spring Breakers" via her Annapurna Pictures banner and has David O. Russell's "American Hustle," Spike Jonze's "Her," and Bennett Miller's "Foxcatcher" set for release later this year.

2013 San Diego Comic-Con: PSYCH Returns

via press release

USA ORDERS TWO ADDITIONAL EPISODES OF PSYCH –
FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, THE SERIES' AVID FANS GET TO VOTE ON A STORYLINE, SET TO AIR IN SEASON EIGHT

Cast Makes Triumphant Return to San Diego with an Exclusive Midnight Screening of "PSYCH: The Musical" and Comic-Con® Panel Discussion, Moderated by Cult Hero Cary Elwes
LOS ANGELES –  USA Network, the #1 network in all of basic cable, is giving PSYCH-‐Os what they want: more PSYCH episodes! Due to the extraordinary popularity of the show, the network has ordered two additional episodes for the eighth season, and, for the first time ever, fans will have the opportunity to vote for one they want to see appear on-‐air. The results will be announced when PSYCH makes its fifth annual return to San Diego's Comic Con® on July 18.
Fans can start making their voices heard on Wednesday, June 26, via http://www.usanetwork.com/contet/psych-‐episode-‐vote, and cast their vote for one of the following storylines:
  • TELETHON -‐ In a classic "whodunit?" case with a PSYCH twist, Shawn and Gus investigate a murder that Shawn is convinced was committed by the beloved host of Santa Barbara's annual Children's Hospital Telethon. There's only one problem – the host was seen by hundreds of thousands of people on live television during the exact time the murder occurred elsewhere. Can Shawn steal the show, poke a hole in this rock-‐solid alibi, and prove the host did it? Or will Shawn fail in front of his biggest audience yet?
  • DREAM THERAPY -‐ From acclaimed director James Roday ("Mr. Yin Presents...", "Heeeeere's Lassie"), comes a new vision in terror: "Nightmare on State Street!" In the episode, an exhausted Gus enters dream therapy to understand the cause of his recent night terrors. But after this, nothing is ever again what it seems... He soon realizes that in dreams, no one can hear you scream!
  • FOOD TRUCK -‐ When the well-‐known owner of a beloved Santa Barbara food truck is mysteriously murdered, Shawn and Gus, fans of delicious flavor, are determined to solve the crime as only they can. They go undercover as proprietors of the PSYCH Naptime Food Truck, and soon discover that the high-‐profit world of Santa Barbara's mobile food business is cutthroat, insular and a place of many secrets – many of them worth killing for.
The results will be announced in San Diego where PSYCH kicks off two days of activations starting on July 17 with an exclusive midnight screening of the highly anticipated "PSYCH: The Musical," a two-‐hour special episode airing this winter on USA. The following day, the network will host a characteristically hilarious PSYCH panel during Comic-‐Con with the winning storyline revealed by the cast.
Hosted at the Reading Cinema in the Gaslamp district, the advanced screening festivities will begin the afternoon of Wednesday, July 17, and will continue with a not-‐to-‐be-‐missed late-‐ night party. Fans at the event will have an exclusive opportunity to download a track from the musical, made available as part of a partnership with Shazam. The event will be free and open to the public on a first-‐come, first-‐served basis. Psych fans can register here to attend: http://www.usanetwork.com/content/psych-‐the-‐musical.

  • Almost Human: In the near future, technology and crime will increase so quickly that law enforcement will not be able to keep up. To maintain order and keep the public safe, all police officers must partner with highly evolved human-like-androids known as synthetics. From J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Production and Fringe executive producer J.H. Wyman, Almost Human is the story of Detective John Kennex (Karl Urban – Star Trek), and his life-like android partner Dorian (Michael Ealy – Underworld Awakening).

  • The Originals: From executive producer Julie Plec comes The Originals, a spinoff of The CW's #1 series among Adults 18–34 and Comic-Con fan-favorite The Vampire Diaries. • The 100: 97 years ago, Earth was devastated by a nuclear apocalypse, and mankind was nearly destroyed. The only survivors were the inhabitants of 12 international space stations that were in orbit at the time. The stations came together to form the Ark, but with resources dwindling and population growth soaring, the decision is made to send The 100, a group of juvenile delinquents, to the surface to test whether Earth is once again habitable.
