Put Together Your own GODZILLA Video and Submit it!

GODZILLA Video contest of a sorts
I'm not going to try and spruce this piece up with too many words, but far be it from me to not say something about a Godzilla movie-related social contest or deed.

(Psst, for anyone in the Bay Area, I have a very cool image of a "footprint" you could take advantage of.  I know where it is...

Check out the video clip from Gareth Edwards.  He wants to see your videos, whether they be live-action, stop-motion, animated or what not.  He wants to see them!!!

Syfy/Asylum Jumps The Shark with SHARKNADO 3!

SHARKNADO 2 poster, SHARKNADO 3 announced by Syfy
Yes gang, you heard right.  Well, you read right, unless you're using text to speech software.  But sure enough, as if one Sharknado wasn't enough, what with its quirky success on Syfy and a weak attempt at a latter theatrical release.  They had to go and make a sequel.  I mean, hey, why leave well enough alone when you can make it worse with a sequel.

But wait, before we even get tortured by a sequel from Asylum, we now have word that there will be a third Sharknado.  A THIRD tornado full of sharks!  What are the odds? Apparently bad enough to have another one coming our way.

You know, I just had an idea.  Since Asylum's big reputation is known for ripping off mainstream movies, ie: Atlantic Rim, AE: Apocalypse Earth, Jack the Giant Killer, Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies, Battle of Los Angeles, Titanic II, Paranormal Entity... some mainstream distributor should get something up and running that mocks Sharknado and turn the tides on them!  LOL.

But all joking aside, Syfy and Asylum announced Sharknado 3 today.  It's really more of an announcement of when Sharknado 2 will air on Syfy, but hey, you've been warned.

New Movies In Theaters This Week, Fri, 5-2-14

New Movies In Theaters This Week, Fri, May 2nd - SPIDER-MAN

For a quick list of new movies coming out in theaters this Friday, May 2nd, 2014, we have

The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Belle - [Limited] w/  Gugu Mbatha-Raw,
Walk of Shame - [Limited] w/ Elizabeth Banks,
Ida  - [Limited] w/ Agata Kulesza
The Protector 2 - [Limited] w/ Tony Jaa, RZA

Last weekend saw The Other Woman ($24.76M) take the top spot for weekend sales, with Captain America The Winter Soldier ($16.22M) holding on to the 2nd spot, followed up by Heaven is for Real ($14.35M), Rio 2 ($13.88M) and Brick Mansions ($9.52M) rounding out the top-5 spots.

Your fellow movie-goers rated the top-10 box office movies over on IMDb, with the following scores:

The Other Woman (6.4/10)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (8.2/10)
Heaven Is for Real (5.6/10)
Rio 2 (6.8/10)
Brick Mansions (6.3/10)
Transcendence (6.4/10)
The Quiet Ones (5.6/10)
Bears (7.7/10)
Divergent (7.5/10)
A Haunted House 2 (4.7/10)

For me, considering how much going to the movies cost, anything under a 6 warrants rental territory.  Anything over an 8, if I'm pondering seeing it in theaters, definitely helps me get my foot out the door and headed to the movie theater.  And an FYI: If you haven't gone to see Captain America yet because you weren't that enthused by the first one, this is a totally different beast of a movie, taking place in the modern era and tying up and connecting a lot of movie strings in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I felt like it was on par with The Avengers, unlike how Iron Man 3 was divergent from the Marvel world a bit more.

AGENTS of SHIELD Recap, 4-29-14, "Nothing Personal"

Cobie Smulders in AGENTS OF SHIELD, Delivering MCU Movie Nuggets
With only two episodes left in the first season of Agents of SHIELD, we're finally getting to a place in the show that feels good.  What was a horrible, lackluster

Events in Captain America The Winter Soldier have dictated a lot of what's now happening in AoS, and it explains why the front half of the season was such a lackluster bore. They were biding time until Cap 2 events could be taken advantage of in the show.

In tonight's episode, all kinds of reveals took place, for characters and viewers alike.

Ward had Skye, she faked him out, got the cops to show up, but it's Ward.  He's super skilled fighter dude, so that didn't do any good.  Deathlok showed up to back up his failed efforts to get Skye to talk, and his methods seemed to work.  But even though Skye did decrypt the hard drive, she left them a present.

May found the truth about the TAHITI project.

Coulson and the gang finally put it all together that Ward is Hydra, (or as Skye called him, a NAZI), and that they're starting to realize more and more how alone they are.

Maria Hill showed up and though initially she showed up with the military in tow, once she learned of Ward's deception, she helped Coulson turn the tide on the military dudes and they went off to find Ward.

May returned to the fold... or at least I think she did.  She showed up in the last scene, to show Coulson what she learned about Project TAHITI.

And that's when we learn details about TAHITI, that Coulson was part of the program and that he was resigning because the side effects of using the alien blood is too unstable unless they wipe recipients memories.  OH, and the program was originally designed to resurrect fallen Avengers.

The other huge Marvel Cinematic Universe nuggets that we were fed.

ALMOST HUMAN Getting Dumped By FOX

ALMOST HUMAN cancelled
It's official.  News from Fox is that the sci-fi robot cop drama, Almost Human, starring Karl Urban and Michael Ealy, will not be coming back for a second season.

The show didn't quite hit it off with the infamous Nielsen families, as it pulled in a mere estimated 1.5 rating amongst the target demo of the money spending 18-49 year old adults.

Word on the street is that the Josh Holloway starrer, Intelligence, is also on the cancellation bubble.

-

I had watched the first few episodes of Almost Human, and to some degree, it had a great little snarky attitude, with a cop who is rough around the edges as far as robot partners is concerned.  And the robot attempting to learn how to get along with this guy.

But there are so many things on TV that it was hard to pull more time for the show and watch it.

And therein lies the problem.  There are so many shows on that there will always be a loser or two, because we only have so much time to spread ourselves thin and watch things, whether it's live or time-shifted via VoD or what not.

Bummer for Almost Human.

GODZILLA, The God (Asian Trailer Explains Story)

There could be, will be, maybe movie spoilers in below piece.

Godzilla Asian Movie Trailer explained?

Up until now, we pretty much knew that Godzilla, (coming out in the U.S. on May 16th), is, what most expect to be a fantastic reboot from Gareth Edwards.  For me, we knew that he's arisen.  We knew that there were other monsters.  One, maybe more, from things I've seen, but can't confirm.  We knew that humanity was running for its life because of... Godzilla?

Maybe not so much.

But as more trailers come out, we're starting to get more of a feel for the movie and what it represents.  Now why we have to depend on international trailers to get more of the gist of the story behind the movie, I don't know.  It's a marketing thing.

But now it seems, if this Asian trailer is pointing us in the right direction, I'd swear that humans must awaken Godzilla to tackle this flying thing?  Come on poeple, put up a REALLY BIG BUG LIGHT and see what happens.

TV News from the Week Ending Sat 4-26-14

Longmire, The Killing, and more TV News from the Week Ending Sat 4-26-14

Tonight's piece talks about more renewals and series premieres for shows like Longmire, plus a chunk of season finale dates coming up in May.

Check it out:

Austin & Ally has been renewed for a 4th season by Disney Channel

BET renews three shows:  The Game, Being Mary Jane, and Real Husbands.

Dancing with the Stars will have guest performer and judge, Ricky Martin, on April 28th.

HBO announced renewal news for Veep and Silicon Valley.

Longmire returns for its third fun season, on A&E, on June 2nd, 2014.
"The series stars Australian actor Robert Taylor as Walt Longmire, the charismatic, dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming, along with Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, Bailey Chase, Cassidy Freeman and Adam Bartley."

MTV renews three shows: The Real World (that's a shock!  Not!), Snooki and JWOWW and Girl Code.

The Killing's season four will begin streaming on Netflix on Friday, August 1, 2014.  I hope they keep up the quality of the show.  It had promise until AMC messed up their second season.

Season Finale Dates for some TV shows:

ABC's BLACK BOX: Is It Worth It To Watch?

ABC's BLACK BOX, a review of sorts

I've been enduring ridiculous ads for Black Box, about a brilliant doctor (Kelly Reilly) who has dark issues and gets hot and heavy with anyone she can, when she's off her meds.  Or so the relentless TV ads had us believe.

The pitch from ABC goes as follows:

"Catherine Black, a famed neuroscientist with a job at the Center for Neurological Research and Treatment, struggles with mental illness. However, this is just one of the many secrets she hides from her fiancé and her family."

Usually, when you watch a TV show and suffer through the marketing, you'll see what all the ads were about.  But this time around, I was in for an interesting surprise about the marketing and the series.

GODZILLA IMAX Poster, Behind The Scenes Video And More

GODZILLA IMAX Poster, Behind The Scenes Video And More

As the May 16th release date for Gareth Edwards' directed Godzilla fast approaches, more and more marketing is hitting the world.  Unlike the lack of marketing for Pacific Rim, Godzilla ads are showing up on most every network, and some programming is being sponsored by the Legendary/WB Godzilla movie.

It's nice to see because that means their marketing tests say that the marketing is warranted and there's an audience for it.

For Godzilla fans, that should be good news.

But for now, here's a few new snippets for fans.

First up, is an behind the scenes bit from the set of Godzilla.  After that, there's the latest trailer, (Japanese) but don't be confused by the release date.  Overseas movies can sometimes open much later than when they do here in the U.S..

And after that, the IMAX poster...

Comcast Has a Funny Sense of "JUST IN"

Comcast logo - Their idea of movies just in seems lacking

It's late April of 2014I thought I'd check out what new movies came to Comcast's Video on Demand service, and to be honest, I have to think they have a very liberal outline of what's "Just In."

12 Years a Slave,

Bieber/Believe

Cloudy/Meatballs 2,

Ender's Game,

Catching Fire,

Last Vegas,

Prisoners,

Thor/Dark World,

and so forth. Release dates range from Sept to Dec of 2013.

I do believe their idea of "Just In" seems to be revamped just a bit.  Of course, they're leaving these much older titles in the listing to keep catching consumer eyeballs, considering their latest marketing scheme is that you can now rent and/or buy movies via their service.

The BACHELORETTE Contestant Dies in Accident

The BACHELORETTE Contestant Dies in Accident

In the upcoming season of The Bachelorette, which premieres on May 19th, there will be one contestant who is on the show at the start, and by all presumptions, was eliminated from contention early on, so his passing won't impact the series.

But it seems that Eric Hill died of injuries sustained from a paragliding accident last weekend.

(Updated details:  Gliding off a hill in Draper, Utah, his parachute assembly partially collapsed and he was swung into the hillside like a pendulum, with tremendous amount of velocity.  Though he was wearing a helmet, he suffered severe injuries which he later died from.)

That is truly unfortunate.

ABC's response to the event was,

We are deeply saddened to hear about the tragic passing of our friend, Eric Hill. Eric inspired us every day with his passion, his courage and his adventurous spirit, and for that we are very thankful. On behalf of our cast, crew and producers, we send our love, our thoughts and our prayers to Eric’s family during this difficult time.”

But I have to wonder how they may actually try to milk this sad event for their ratings, because as we all know, tragic events make for great ratings.

Amazon Prime Nabs Itself Some HBO

HBO to show up on Amazon Prime

Don't know if you saw the news or not, but Amazon and HBO have put together a deal that will now allow select HBO programming to stream to Amazon Prime members!

Amazon and HBO announced in a press release that they've signed up for a multi-year contract between them that will allow Amazon to stream shows like Deadwood, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos and The Wire.  Over time, series like The Newsroom will become available, approximately three years after airing on HBO itself.

Going in the other direction, this new agreement also will have HBO GO available on Amazon's Fire TV device.

The fun will start on May 21st and you'll start seeing HBO content, which will range across shows, movies and events like comedy specials.

No, I did not miss mentioning Game of Thrones, because it's not part of this deal yet.  And no, HBO did not look to other content providers to create this kind of an alternate streaming deal.

You won't see some content like Entourage because the show itself is already tied up in other contractual deals, and the like.

To be honest, this will be a trick act to pull off, to some degree.  HBO needs to keep their own content lucrative and isolated, so they need to retain their hot programming for a while.  But with the older shows like Sopranos having spent their strongly lucrative life cycle at HBO, it's not a bad deal for Amazon to get that and other kinds of popular content.

This gives Amazon a nice new niche to market.  And HBO is balancing this act, hoping that consumers are not so patient that they just don't wait until HBO content finally lands on Prime.
