UNDER THE DOME is Finally Cancelled

UNDER THE DOME Gets Cancelled

CBS has announced that they are cancelling Under the Dome and its last episode will be airing on September 10th.  Good riddance I say!

When Under the Dome, based off a novel by Stephen King of the same name, premiered, it was an interesting story. But King had the luxury of telling it with the intent of the story being encapsulated within the confines of a book. He did not have to keep coming up with story to keep it going.

CBS on the other hand, had a bit of a hit on their hands and had to keep it going for what it was worth.

Sadly they covered the majority of the story of the book in the first season and burned through some potentially good story lines pretty quickly instead of letting them languish any longer. So they burned through the compelling content like a flash bang grenade.

Static Bits: DC, Superman, MR ROBOT's Stalled Finale, GALAXY QUEST, DR Who Lego and More Jon Snow Noise

news about Superman, MR ROBOT's Stalled Finale, GALAXY QUEST, DR Who Lego and More Jon Snow Noise

For some reason, DC/WB is courting George Miller to direct one of their movies. But in the same piece, unnamed sources are saying that the second Man of Steel movie is on indefinite hold. WTH is that about?

Or have they run out of ideas for the alien hero?

And with Miller picking and choosing his movie, I wonder if it will happen in a desert setting? And don't forget that there will probably be more Batman movies.

March 25th, 2016 - Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice
August 5th, 2016 - Suicide Squad
June 23rd, 2017 - Wonder Woman
November 17th, 2017 - Justice League Part One
March 23rd, 2018 - The Flash
July 27th, 2018 - Aquaman
2018- The Batman

2020 - Cyborg
2020 - Green Lantern Corps

In case you were wondering, the season finale of USA's Mr. Robot has been postponed due to its similarities to the horrible tragedy that struck that news crew back east, when that angry asshole took out his ineffectual feelings on innocent people.

DISH TV's Mystery Box Updates

DISH TV is Interesting

If you stay up late enough, you've seen it. You have seen when your DISH box tries to shut down for nightly updates. Religiously. And if you're one of those folks who likes going to sleep to your TV, it is guaranteed you will wake up to the DISH screen saver instead of what you wanted on the tube.

It's fracking crazy. and there's no way to stop it. Hell, one night my box did it twice to me, testing me to see if I fell asleep already or not!

HA! Not that time!

But seriously, despite what appears to be users complaining and what not, DISH has to do this whenever they do it. And you have to keep an eye on your box to make sure it doesn't shut you down while you're in the middle of something else while your TV is on.

What an annoying bummer and I had to vent about it..

DOCTOR WHO to the Big Screen?

Doctor Who On The Big Screen movie theater

BBC Is Putting Doctor Who On The Big Screen

It would seem that BBC and Fathom Events believe they may have a good thing with the idea of bringing Doctor Who to the movie theater screening world.

I've seen TV shows try this before, but not with much success, but Fathom has been doing these little quirky things and considering they keep happening, it must be success enough with these ideas.

With that in mind, BBS and Fathom announced that they will be having a special screening of the Doctor Who Season 8 two-part finale “Dark Water” and “Death in Heaven” on September 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m (local times) in Real3D in 700 theaters across the United States.

Kurt Sutter Developing SONS OF ANARCHY Spinoff for FX - Yes!

SONS OF ANARCHY Spinoff news

When Sons of Anarchy was coming to an end, word on the street, in the form of hushed rumors, was that SOA creator Kurt Sutter was working on a spinoff or prequel to the popular biker gang series on FX. And that was good to hear, whether it be true or not. We wanted it because TV fans just suffered one hell of a final season of Sons of Anarchy and needed solace.

According to reputable sources out there, Sutter is working on a spinoff based on the Mayans Motorcycle Club, who were based out of the Oakland, CA region.

TV fans begin to drool...

Right now Sutter is focusing on his new show, The Bastard Executioner, premiering on Sept. 15th, and to be honest, I would rather see him focus on one thing at a time because when he's focused, he's on target.

The SOA spinoff is in early development stages, and Sutter being Sutter, is mum about the details. This means we don't know anything more about it.

PERSON OF INTEREST and ELEMENTARY Premieres on WGN

WGN network news PERSON of INTEREST

PERSON OF INTEREST and ELEMENTARY will be premiering on WGN

Do you remember the first few seasons of Person of Interest? If you caught it live you did. But if you wanted to catch it on Video on Demand (VoD) after the fact, you were screwed because the distributor restricted air time for the show across the various platforms.

I either watched it in summer reruns or wrote off the eps I missed.

OR...

If you've heard all kinds of good things about Person of Interest but never saw it from the beginning, now is your chance.

Or did you miss the first season or so of Elementary?

First, I highly recommend both shows. They are fun to watch.

But now you can catch them from the start because with WGN acquiring the off-network rights to these two hits, you can start watching them.

DC Comics No Longer Wants to Batgirl It...

DC says no more Batgirling, or no more experiments with characters

News on the street is that DC Comics lost around $2 million last year and instead of buckling down and charging forward with new and daring takes on their established characters like they successfully have with Batgirl, DC has instructed editors to quit with the experiments and to stay the line with the tried and true.

Now they had great success with new versions or visions of Harley Quinn and Batgirl, and that had them thinking. But they get a bit of a flesh wound and they are going to revert to what they know. Since when has Batman or Superman been beat down then back off from the bad guy?

So DC is allegedly taking the chicken shit approach and backing off, or, as being reported via "sources," to stop Batgirling.

This when myself and other people were on the verge of checking out the new Superman and Batman characters. But now, all we'll be getting, if these "sources" are correct, are the same old stuff for Superman and Batman, or back to the safe route.

Host Alison Sweeney Leaves NBC's THE BIGGEST LOSER

Alison Sweeney leaves The Biggest Loser

In what seems like a shocking turn of events, NBC released a statement today from producers saying that Alison Sweeney will not be returning to host the next installment of The Biggest Loser.

She's been an icon of the series for fans for eight years and now she will not be there to host the contests and challenges that our health-minded contestants will be facing.

Bummer. I'm sure as time wears on, we'll learn more about the details.

The show has had a few changes over the years, primarily in the coaching staff.

Bob has been the anchor of the series while Jillian has come and gone. Our recent spate of coaches includes Bob Harper, Dolvett Quince, with the latest additions of Jessie Pavelka and Jennifer Widerstrom. At least that was the lineup last season.

I have to wonder if there isn't something going on in the background we aren't privy to. When a show does well, usually folks only leave after some "creative differences" spark up.

Honest Trailers Dishes on MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Honest Trailers Treament

It's here, the Honest Trailers take on the latest Mad Max film, and to be honest, this version of the trailer does indeed confirm my suspicions from the rumors I heard in how little Max was in the film! Well, as a primary character at least.

Here Honest Trailers confirms he does a lot of grunting. And everyone does a lot of driving.

Check it out...

FEAR THE WALKING DEAD Makes Cable Ratings History, But...

FEAR THE WALKING DEAD TV ratings

Well, we all tuned in to see the beginning of the zombie apocalypse on the series premiere of Fear The Walking Dead. Or what AMC calls "The companion series to The Walking Dead." What we got was a well developed 90-minute premiere that detailed out the characters in the upcoming six-episode season, with a peppering of nuances showing us the first few cases of people going zombie.

Keep in mind that zombies will be looking a lot better in this show, since they haven't been dead for that long.

With that said, Fear The Walking Dead became the most watched series premiere ever, on cable, drawing in just over 10 million viewers on Sunday.

I can only assume the "Live+?" numbers will be just as impressive.

And it is cool to see these numbers, but I am worried.

I am worried that this slow burn they're introducing is going to be more of a complicated family dynamic burdened by sidebar zombie issues. The producers have said we won't be seeing that many zombies right away, and if the first episode is any clue, well, I see what they mean.

For me, I love well thought out slow-burn stories, but the TV mindset of viewers is what makes reality-TV so popular.  Simple, quick and to the point stories or events is what sells on television because no one wants to commit or invest in complicated plots.

SURVIVOR's Newest Idol Twist

SURVIVOR TV News

EW is reporting that CBS is changing up the next season of Survivor in what I think, is a game changing maneuver. Next season there will be a few twists in the upcoming season of Survivor, titled Survivor Cambodia - Second Chance.

First, fans are able to vote on who is going to be on the upcoming season of Survivor, that that's cool. Fan voting can bring out populars, favorites, and even the most hated. Sometimes we love hating, right?

The other big twist coming out with season 31 (yes, 31) of Survivor is how idols will be hidden or handled.

First, just to f! with the contestants, the immunity idols will all look different.

The producers think that if the idols look look complicated and then like some child made it, it will mess up people's games when it comes to making deals.

I think it will be a minor snag for a few moments but then the island dwellers will catch on. Or someone can hatch some elaborate schemes involving fake idols that might work... once or so.

The other change is what caught my eye, and that is that they will be hiding idols in the middle of challenges.

Dang. That's evil and I like it.

THE JUDGE (2014) Movie Review, Downey & Duvall Are Acidic Magic

The Judge is about a tense relationship between father and son, where the son finds himself stepping up to defend his father who is being accused of vehicular murder. The son, being estranged from the family, finds this task bringing him back in touch with the family he's distanced himself from over the years, for what ever the reason.

But this murder charge and the work needed to defend his father takes this son, Hank Palmer, on quite the journey back through his past up to the present. It's harsh and wonderful, sort of. Once you get into the middle act, it becomes a wonderful tale of redemption.

It's a powerful movie with a powerful ending.

-

Robert Downey Jr plays the son, Hank Palmer, with Robert Duvall playing his dad. Vincent D'Onofrio plays Hank's brother, Glen, and Jeremy Strong plays the simple-minded Dale Palmer.

Other cast include Billy Bob Thornton, Vera Farmiga, Dax Shepard, & Leighton Meester .

Downey brings that snarky Tony Stark mode we've come to know over the last few Marvel movies he's been in, but refines it to a less humorous version with an acidic edge, an intolerance for those who are in the path of his life's goal of being a sharp-edged defense attorney. But he does something I wasn't sure he could, that was his performance distanced him from any other character I've seen him play over the last seven years.

HBO And Jonathan Nolan Is Bringing Back WESTWORLD!

Westworld on HBO

Westworld Being Rebooted By HBO

For anyone old enough, or even not, maybe you've seen the 1973 Westworld starring Yul Brynner as "the gunslinger," or as he was known to be, the man in black.

The 1973 film also starred James Brolin and Dick Van Patten. The was well received and is/was pretty popular, (IMDb user ratings of 7.1). It was written and directed by Michael Crichton.

Westworld wasn't Crichton's first big gig, but was preceded by The Andromeda Strain in '71. After Westworld, he went on to have his novel The Terminal Man hit screens in '74, and of course Jurassic Park (93), Rising Sun (93), Congo (95), Twister (96), the TV series ER (94-2009).

-

With that being said, HBO is rebooting Westworld, which probably won't suck, since the producer is Jonathan Nolan, whose past credits include his work with is brother, Christopher Nolan on The Prestige and The Dark Knight franchise, plus he's helmed CBS's Person of Interest.

NEIGHBORS (2014) Movie Review

Neighbors (2014) review

Neighbors is a slow burn to start, gets funny at times in the middle and doesn't quite know how to end without another slow burn. And the comedic film can never be watched with kids in the room. Then again this is a Seth Rogen flick, where he loves his pot and sex references.

The film starts out with us watching Mac (Seth Rogen) and Kelly (Rose Byrne) trying to have sex with a baby in the room. Mac already has issues of a sort and this doesn't help. This sets the tone for a slow opening act where we learn a lot about our couple's life and issues in an overly slow intro peppered with Rogen's usual brash humor.

Then we get to see a fraternity move into the house next door. Instead of glossing over the act of the fraternity moving in and that's that, we get a lengthy piece of history about what they're about and their lofty, fraternity-like goals.

THE GIFT (2015) Movie Review (A Surprise of a Good Thriller)

THE GIFT (2015) review

The Gift, stars Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall is a surprise of a great thriller. It is directed by Joel Edgerton. This movie is categorized and marketed as a mystery (stalker) thriller, and to be honest yes, it is. It's been in theaters since August 7th.

But about being a mystery-thriller...

The Gift takes your expectations of the mystery-thriller genre and keeps messing you up, turning your expectations of this genre upside down with surprises and non-non-surprises that keep happening.

I'll explain that in a bit.

The Gift opens with Simon and Robyn (Bateman, Hall) looking to buy a house in the Hollywood Hills. They're buying the house and moving to the L.A. area for his big time job.

While they were out shopping, if you're paying attention, you will notice a man in the fuzzy background watching them. After a few scenes he steps up and introduces himself to Simon. This is Gordo, played by director Joel Edgerton. (Pictured above)

Syfy's LAVALANTULA, A TV Review (Is this the next Sharknado?)

LAVALANTULA TV Review from Syfy telecast

Lavalantua aired on Syfy, was produced by Cinetel Films (Wow, a movie NOT by The Asylum!), and directed by Mike Mendez (Big Ass Spider). To be honest, Mendez cranks out some great spider-like content and knows how to thread the line between too much and too stupid and makes it work. Like he does here in this giant lava loving spider movie. The cast included

Nia Peeples, Steve Guttenberg, Michael Winslow, Ralph Garman, with Ian Ziering making a comedic appearance and pitch for Sharknado, Leslie Easterbrook Patrick Renna, Leigh Whannell, Danny Woodburn, Carlos Bernard (only in the opening scenes), Marion Ramsey, & Diana Hopper.

Guttenberg plays Colton West, a washed up action actor, Nia Peeples plays his wife, Olivia, and Noah Hunt plays their son, Wyatt.

The story revolves around the West's and the various people they encounter during this hot-tempered-spider emergency. Micro spoiler - The West's can kick ass!

-

Lavaluntua opens to Colton getting beat by an interrogator (Bernard), but it turns out to be a movie shoot. But as things go wrong with the shoot, Colton quits the movie. In the background we hear a subtle news report about an earthquake.

Sharknado 3 Review, TV Ratings And Plain Silliness

Sharknado 3 Review and its TV Ratings

Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No is just as you would expect it to be. A phenomenal peice of literary self-mocking kind of entertainment. There's no pretending it is anything but a hokey piece of fun that requires beer to get through it. (Or any kind of libation you would prefer...)

The third Sharknado movie stars Cassie Scerbo, Tara Reid, Bo Derek, Ryan Newman (No, not him), Ian Ziering, and Frankie Muniz and is produced by the studio that tends to make knock off films more often than not, The Asylum.

Talk about making fun of yourself! Sharknado 3 starts out with the film mocking a James Bond opening scene with a black sihouette of Fin rip-starting a chainsaw inside a black silhoutte of shark jaws.

We then watch Fin moving through Washington DC. The secret service are called in to transport the package, Fin, to the White House... all to get a civilian award and a "golden chainsaw" award for his part in killing flying sharks.

A politician is asked, "How do you feel about the sharks falling out of the sky?" She replied "I feel bad for the sharks, but they're wrecking our parks and schools."

LOL...

Transformers Cinematic Universe Has A Surprising Powerhouse of Writers

TRANSFORMERS Five Movie News About the Creative Talent

If you care, Paramount has tapped its writers for the fifth Transformers film.

Turns out that producer Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner are helming the fifth alien robot movie. Goldsman is the man in charge of the brain trust of the new Transformers cinematic universe. He brings great resume to the table, with his having written or produced A Beautiful Mind, I Robot, Mr & Mrs Smith, The Da Vinci Code, I am Legend, Hancock, Star Trek Into Darkness, Insurgent. On TV he's produced Fringe and the upcoming Syfy series, Childhood's End. (Seriously? Why doesn't he just change his name to "Shit Bruce will love!")

Jeff Pinkner's resume includes TV experience, with producing Alias, Lost, Fringe and Zoo. (Which by the way, Zoo on CBS is totally surprising me this summer.)

This team alone sounds great, but keep reading. I think the Paramount has given the Transformers franchise a powerhouse of talent.

The CW Says No More DC Spinoffs (Riiight!)

CW Says No More DC Spinoffs

The CW has hit on something with their DC/WB franchise products like Smallville that ran 10 seasons, while they have recently been ramping up on other new shows like Arrow and The Flash.

Smallville (Starring Tom Welling) proved you can get over the hokey of comics and build a good foundation of almost reality-based heroes. No matter what planet they're from.

Arrow (Starring Stephen Amell) is going into its fourth season while The Flash (starring Grant Gustin) is charging into its second season.

And the CW has a new show coming online that spins off of these latter two shows called Legends of Tomorrow, starring cast from both shows, like Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Brandon Routh, Victor Garber and others.

Yet during the summer TCA (Television Critics Association) meet and greet, the president of The CW says he does not intend to turn the network into "the DC Comics network" and that they have no other intentions for any other spinoffs. Though in almost the same session he says they're bummed they passed on Supergirl, which landed at CBS.

To be fair, they passed on Supergirl because it was being developed at the same time The Flash was, and they did not know what they would be in for with The Flash. I suspect a lack of faith, and rightfully so, guided them towards passing on Supergirl. Even if it was developed by the same people who are producing the other DC shows in their lineup.

Right now DC/WB products make up 40% of their programming lineup. And I can see the concerns they have about looking like a DC/WB channel. It would be like naming a network the Syfy Channel because... oh, wait. They did. But with The CW, they could call themselves the Genre Channel. Or the Fantasy channel, considering a different good chunk of their programming is dedicated to vampires and monster hunters.

THE EQUALIZER (2014) Review with - A Surprising Meh

Denzel Washington as Robert McCall in THE EQUALIZER, a review

The Equalizer stars Denzel Washington, Marton Csokas, Chloë Grace Moretz, David Harbour, Bill Pullman and Melissa Leo.

The film summary says,

"A man believes he has put his mysterious past behind him and has dedicated himself to beginning a new, quiet life. But when he meets a young girl under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters, he can't stand idly by - he has to help her."

And the "mysterious past" is a huge key reference here, but let's start anew for a moment.

-

The Equalizer is a fair movie based off of a 1985 television series, about a man named Robert McCall. In the show, the man helped people in need,  The TV series starred Edward Woodward as a retired espionage/intelligence officer. He used his past "talents" to deal out a kind of justice on behalf of innocent people who found themselves in dangerous circumstances. In a way, he was working off a personal debt for deeds committed while working for "the agency," or atone for past actions.

I remember liking that show. So when I saw news that this film was coming out, and with Washington in the lead role, I was pretty excited about it.

My timing was such that I never got to theater to see it, but when it came to TV, I was all over it.

It was directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Shooter) off a script by Richard Wenk (The Expendables 2). It seemed to have some pretty solid talent behind it.

Before I go on, I have to say that they spent $55M making the film and it made $155M worldwide, with plans for a sequel in the works. IMDb users scored it at 7.2.

THE MARINE A Warning, I Mean Quickie Review

The Marine with John Cena, A review

The film synopsis for the 2006 film, The Marine, goes like this:

"A group of diamond thieves on the run kidnap the wife of a recently discharged marine who goes on a chase through the South Carolinian wilderness to retrieve her."

And let me spell out how I came to write a movie review of The Marine...

-

I sometimes tend to go to sleep in front of the TV or leave my bedroom TV on and just pass out. As it is, DISH will reset my box every night and turn the damn thing off on me any way.

But later When I woke up to a bunch of action sequences on my TV, they were so bad that I thought this was one of those parody TV commercials that intentionally try to make things look bad. Or that I was so groggy waking up that I was not making sense of things.

But it kept on going and going and then I realized I had drifted off to sleep while I was watching Jon Snow (not?) get killed in the season finale of Game of Thrones.

So what the hell was this then?

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Fight Scene Spoiler

Wonder Woman fights who in Batman v Superman

In one of the trailers that I provide below for Batman v Superman, we see Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) in battle with an unseen enemy. For all I knew, I was guessing Superman (Henry Cavill), since any time two characters meet for the first time, comic book companies always have to have them fight. I don't know, whatever. But that's why I was guessing she was scrapping with Superman.

So Batman (Ben Affleck) gets pissed because of the damage that's done during Kal-el's fight with Zod. I'm guessing he needs to take this up with Supes. In the mean time, we are introduced to Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor and a few other characters like Aquaman (Jason Momoa), rumors of The Flash, Cyborg and whoever else they may end up packing into the film to prepare us for the upcoming Justice League movie that comes out in Nov of 2017.

We see Lex Luthor, played what appears to be sublimely by Jesse (I hate Comic-Con) Eisenberg. But we seem to have more baddies shoved into the mix.

When will we stick to just a few bad guys at a time folks? Don't we have plenty of time to vent them out?

Any way, according to sources of sources, it is not Superman or Batman for that matter.

Details About The Bones / Sleepy Hollow Crossover

Bones and Sleepy Hollow crossover news

I don't know if you caught it the first time I mentioned it, but Fox is having two different genre shows do a crossover, Bones and Sleepy Hollow.

It sounds cool to have such a unique crossover between a police procedural and a fantasy series.

The crossover episodes will be airing on Thursday, October 29th.

The details of the crossover starts on Bones which will include Brennan and Booth coming across Ichabod Crane and Abbie Mills during an investigation. It turns out that both teams are on the same case and join forces.

In the subsequent episode of Sleepy Hollow, Crane and Mills turn to Brennan and Booth for help in one of their own cases, which of course, involves clues from the 18th century.

A 24 Reboot From Fox Is On Its Way

24 Reboot From Fox TV news

-

When Kiefer Sutherland played Jack Bauer in Fox's 24, it was a pretty action packed thrill ride of a man on a mission, at no matter what the cost. And a man with a cell phone that got coverage in the darkest of tunnels with the longest battery life ever in a cell phone!

24 had come and gone, then came back again for a short stint, with the second mini-series feeling pretty stressful as Jack was on the lamb, yet still dedicated to the President, while Chloe was hanging out with criminals while helping Jack.

But it was still a fun ride.

Fox must think it has something going with the franchise and news is that they are working on a reboot of the series.

Or as put during the summer press tour when asked, a reboot is "still in development." A script is being written but had to be tailored around some disappointment since Sutherland was not interested in reprising the role.

PRISON BREAK Reboot Update

Prison Break reboot news

It has been confirmed for sure that Fox is working on a reboot/rehash or continuation of the series, Prison Break and Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell are attached to the project, at this time.

(I know, I know...  Miller's character previously died in a direct to video follow up.)

The reboot will pick up several years after the events of the first show and some of the more iconic characters will also be returning.
