On The CW's The Flash, it looks like The Reverse Flash is returning in the second part of season two, per an EW report.

Hey, if it's the Reverse Flash, shouldn't he be running backwards?

The new Independence Day sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence, picks up in modern day, where we stand, after fighting off the alien enemy. This even includes having adapted some of their weaponry for our own. And of course, the phrase, "They're heeere" has an entirely new meaning.

But in the meantime, if you like having your story details filled in from the time gaps between movies, there will be companion comic books coming out that will bridge the time gap between the last film and the upcoming film.

It's called the Independence Day comic book series, being written by Victor Gischler.

CHILDHOOD's END on Syfy, A Quick Start to A Slow Ending

Childhood's End TV mini-seris review

There are many out there that are Arthur C. Clarke novel fans and admittedly he's put out some fantastic reading content. And I'm sure that the 1953 novel version of Childhood's End was as gripping as it was meant to be. But then along came Syfy.

The short TV review of the mini-series is as follows:

The first two-hours were quite gripping and if they had packed all six hours into three or four, this would have been a perfect addition to any DVD collection.

But no, we had to make it a six-hour journey, over half that journey was experiencing a few characters past lives and influential events that brought them to this point.

Which is usually good in most cases, but in this case, the character influences were drawn way out, too many were injected and the tedium distracted me from the overall story.

I say that because I was hurting for this story to start developing itself into the final resolution. I wanted to see the story move forward, not continually backwards.

By the time it did resolve out, I almost did not care... just end already!

BUT, if you watch the first two hours, the first half of hour three, then the last hour, you should be good.  (If you're impatient about actual story development like I can be sometimes.)

Syfy is keeping its promise from a few years ago to creating more sci-fi content once they got some money and content under their belt. I admire that.

100% Spoiler Free Review: STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

100% Spoiler Free Review: STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

I know there will be a million movie reviews of The Force Awakens, but rather, I thought I would describe my experience watching the newest Star Wars film from J.J. Abrams.

First off, the previews accompanying the film were exciting, large versions of the next Captain America film, and the latest trailer for Batman vs Superman.  Oorah!

When the theater darkened and the very first screen from the film came up, the audience cheered and applauded, saying, let the fun begin. And the fun did indeed begin.

I have to hand it to J.J. Abrams. Too many people try to make a film their own kind of vision when they take over sequels and in translation, something gets lost between the original(s) and the sequel. Abrams knew exactly what he had to do to keep the franchise alive with the same kind of tone and energy that the originals did, and he did a superb job making you feel like these films were made right after the first (original) three films.

FARGO S3 Delay, Whiners Bitching ABout STAR TREK BEYOND, Doomsday is NOT The Bad Guy in BATMAN v SUPERMAN? (Images are Amazon links)

is weird, off-beat and yet, it keeps you entertained. And despite the hit power of the series, it seems we will not be seeing a third season of Fargo on FX until 2017 because the production folks "don't have the time to film this winter."

That's a bummer.

But when Fargo does come back, it will more than likely take place in 2010 and we might see some kind of connections between characters in the third season and previous seasons.

We'll see.

Give people a new Star Trek (or any other movie) and there will be a sector of "fans" or "anti-fans" that will piss and moan about something.

In this case, with the new teaser trailer having come out the day before for Star Trek Beyond, you have to admit, it's pretty action oriented. Except of course, for the opening scene.

And folks are pissing and moaning that this new trailer looks more like a modern day action film than a Star Trek film.

So? Studios have to go with what sells these days.  Then again, director Justin Lin has been the guy behind most of the Fast and Furious films, so who is surprised?

Lin had this to say:

About THE LEGEND OF TARZAN, plus Trailer

via press release

From Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures comes the action adventure “The Legend of Tarzan,” starring Alexander Skarsgård (HBO’s “True Blood”) as the legendary character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

The film also stars Oscar nominee Samuel L. Jackson (“Pulp Fiction,” the “Captain America” films), Margot Robbie (“The Wolf of Wall Street”), Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou (“Blood Diamond,” “Gladiator”), Oscar nominee John Hurt (“The Elephant Man,” the “Harry Potter” films), with Oscar winner Jim Broadbent (“Iris”), and two-time Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz (“Inglourious Basterds,” “Django Unchained”).

It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.

Remember how there was conjecture in the headlines from Deadline Hollywood a week or so ago that Stallone would be involved in the new Rambo TV series called Rambo: New Blood?

Nope, it was just that, conjecture and guessing. It turns out that Stallone is in no way, shape or form connected to it, despite what Deadline Hollywood reported.

Showtime has renewed the shows Homeland and The Affair.  This would be the sixth season for Homeland and third for The Affair.

Is American Idol Ending?

Yes... in fact it's ending so abruptly that FOX is cutting the final season a bit short and the show will fold in April.

HBO renewed The Leftovers, but...

Its renewal will give it one more season, its third, but it will also be its last

Honest Trailer Treatment For ANT-MAN

Honest Trailers is at it again, this time having some fun with Marvel's Ant-Man movie.

Is Marvel choosing their projects on a dare?

With high-stakes fight between tiny people, like Frodo vs Golem!

It's all in good fun... and they are good at what they do!

Kingsman: The Secret Service is the perfect mashup of James Bond meets teenage action star and comic-book popping action. And it's done well enough to keep you entertained, even if the run time sits at 129 minutes.

But when all is said and done, it was a fun two-hour escape into the world of spies, subterfuge and violence. Lots of violence.

Kingsman: The Secret Service was a film I wanted to see when it came to theaters, but someone I trusted said there was too much profanity in it. But as I discovered for myself, yes, there is profanity, but not as much as I was led to believe. I guess we can be what we focus on sometimes.

The film stars Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Michael Caine, Taron Egerton and Samuel L. Jackson and was directed and written by Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass and X-Men film franchises.)

Kingsman borders between cartoon fun and serious spy actioner.

DOCTOR STRANGE, CROUCHING TIGER, Star Wars Trailers, Sad Charlie Brown News

Doctor Strange

Don't expect too much coverage of the Marvel movie, Doctor Strange, from this site. I tend to cover things I like or am interested in and to be honest, the comic title never grabbed me.

And with Marvel's description of the film, saying it's a "mind trip action film," isn't helping.

Meh, who knows. But right now the plan is to not get too crazy covering it.

It took what, fifteen years, and now a sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is coming out. And it's called Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny.

Wow, now who has never used that catch phrase about a sword before?

At this point, why even call it a sequel... just call it a Crouching Tiger Universe film or something like that.

As you'll see, it's coming to the small screen.  And at least they're not flying arou...  crap, never mind.

Trailer for Crouching Tiger, HIdden Dragon: Sword of Destiny on TrailerAddict.

When Movie Trailers Make More News Than Some Movies...

Well, with Star Wars: The Force Awakens coming to theaters, a few movies are being attached to it via movie trailers.

For one, Star Trek Beyond, and then there will be Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (3/25), The Huntsman's Winter War (4/22) (Yes, that sequel), X-Men: Apocalypse (5/27) and Independence Day: Resurgence (6/24).

There's also anticipation for trailers from The Jungle Book (4/15), Captain America: Civil War (5/6) or Finding Dory (6/17).

Of course if you're counting, there's even more new footage from The Force Awakens floating around out there.

There are six trailers, (only?) two featurettes, and 10 TV spots or clips, and these clips reveal more and new footage to what was already out there with the trailers.

We might not be seeing any Charlie Brown films for five years... well, actually I don't know about that, but the voice of the character from the cartoons of yester-year, Peter Robbins, just got five years for sending threatening letters to his mobile home park manager.

J. Michael Straczynski

J. Michael Straczynski has a Spike TV series coming up called Red Mars. The series is based on the book trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson.

Spike has ordered 10 episodes already.

And if they let JMS have his way, they should have a good hit on their hands.

The Flash

Did you know that we will be seeing the character Wally West pretty soon in The Flash? He'll be played by Keiynan Lonsdale.

The Hunger Games Prequels

It was bad enough when Lionsgate squeezed out four movies from three books. In fact after the first one, I skipped sending them money because of that. I'll wait until it's all on one of my cable or pay channels.

But now Lionsgate Entertainment is chomping at the bit and making statements like how this franchise will live on, like the Harry Potter franchise. And in that "live on" mode, folks are expecting prequels.

To be honest, it would be something to see a well-done film about how The Hunger Games came about. That's for sure.

MST3K Casting News, SAMURAI JACK returns, And A Bit More

Patton Oswalt has joined the new MST3K reboot in the role of the Mad Scientist henchman, TVs Son of TVs Frank.  Of course as you already know (because you follow Cinema Static... right?) is that Felicia Day will play Mad, the mad scientist.

Other cast includes Jonah Ray in the lead role with Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn providing the voices for Crow and Tom Servo.

The Kickstarter project was 64% funded from 30,355 backers so far when I wrote this, so we are at least getting 6 new episodes from Joel Hodgson!

Samurai Jack is returning to Cartoon Network's Adult Swim in 2016.

So the National Board of Review chose the action flick Mad Max: Fury Road as the best film of 2015? And the Hateful Eight is in the list even though it's not out in theaters yet.  Fascinating.

Tamar & Vince premieres on December 10th with a new season on WE TV.

BATMAN v SUPERMAN Second Official Trailer

Ah, the second trailer for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice came out and there's some good, additional footage from the film, including a disappointing reveal of a big bad guy for our trio of heroes to face.  (I Will be spoiling this character's name in a few lines.)

I love the meeting between Bruce and Clark...

I don't like Jesse (I hate fans) Eisenberg's Luthor character. He looks like he's channeling either Gene Hackman's 1978 Lex, or trying to recreate Heath Ledger's Joker.

Which ever it is, be aware that this Luthor is the son of Lex Luthor, Alexander Joseph Luthor Jr..

Then we have a few fight scenes between Supes and Bats and the introduction of Wonder Woman, taking the brunt of the heat vision from the new bad guy they've introduced, Doomsday, the creature that killed Superman in the comics.
