So What Sci-Fi/Fantasy Shows Are Returning/Premiering in 2016?

There's quite a bit of sci-fi/fantasy that's coming to TV that could actually be pretty interesting, like CBS's 13-episode Person of Interest season, X-Files, Westworld,  Check it out...

There are a few new shows headed this way that haven't aired yet, then after this, I'm listing the shows, but date, of what's new and what's returning from their mid-season breaks.

- - -

Westworld (HBO) - unknown premiere date but interesting to see Jonathan Nolan as one of the contributors, with Michael Crichton contributing to eight of the ten episodes.

(Did you see the piece several months ago about extras for this new series needing to be comfortable with nudity and contact with others while being nude? Then again, it is HBO, the land of soft porn. Hard Body Office?)

-

Preacher (AMC), based off a hit comic, but helmed by Seth Rogen? We'll see. No premiere date has been set yet.

-

Person of Interest just got the nod for a "spring premiere date!" With a half-season of 13 episodes coming. The final of these has been designed to play off as either a season or series finale, depending on how the show is received for this short season.

-

Legion (FX), will be a live-action series based on the X-Men comics.

-

Hunters (Syfy), is an adaptation of Whitley Streiber’s Alien Hunters book series and is being produced by Walking Dead's Gale Ann Hurd and developed by Natalie Chaidez (Sarah Connor Chronicles). Holy shit! "Nuff said there!

-

Emerald City (NBC) will be a dark version of The Wizard of Oz.

-

Second Chance (January 13, Fox)  A 75-year-old corrupt sheriff is brought back to life as a hot young man who fights crime and is amazingly strong.

-

Colony (January 14, USA), starring Josh Holloway, in a future where humans are controlled by fascist aliens.

-

Marvel's Agent Carter (January 19, ABC).  Nuff said there.

The Flash (January 19, The CW)

-

Arrow (January 20, The CW)

Supernatural (January 20, The CW)

-

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (January 21, The CW), where time-traveler Rip Hunter gathers a team of heros to safe the future or past or somewhere. The team will consist of the Atom, Firestorm, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Captain Cold, his brother, and a girl that was once dead on Arrow, who is now alive and changed colors of her black suit to white. You do the math.

-

The 100 (January 21, The CW) is a show I've been surprised by and enjoy watching. I'm hoping the story does not pan out this season.

-

The X-Files (January 24, Fox) finally returns. But will it rock? Will the fans support it by watching it and causing such a huge ratings hit that we get more of the show than just one return season? Mulder, Scully and the gang are back!

-

Lucifer (January 25, Fox), based on Mike Carey’s Vertigo comic.

-

The Magicians (January 25, Syfy) looks pretty sexy, but when that's they main pitch, you have to come in with a grain of salt.

-

You, Me and the Apocalypse (January 28, NBC), with Rob Lowe playing a priest.

-

Grimm (January 29, NBC)

-

Sleepy Hollow (February 5, Fox)

-

The Walking Dead (February 14, AMC)

-

Vikings (February 18, History)

-

Gotham (February 29, Fox)

-

Once Upon a Time (March 6, ABC)

-

Damien (March 7, A&E), based on the hit 1976 movie The Omen.

-

Bates Motel (March 7, A&E), which was renewed with a two-season count.

-

Agents of SHIELD (March 8, ABC) I'm liking the season so far, but have you ever watched a show that had such a huge mid-season break that you lost your need to follow it? ABC has taken quite the risk giving this show three-plus month hiatus, I think.

-

12 Monkeys (April, Syfy). I found the show interesting, but you HAVE to pay attention or at least treat the different time lines as if he's just visiting different cities or buildings.

-

Game of Thrones (April, HBO).. whoa boy. Is he dead or just annoyed? We'll see.

-

Orphan Black (April, BBC America)

-

Scream (April 20, MTV)
