THE BACHELORETTE'S Chad, Hoot Or Devil?

At the beginning of tonight's episode of ABC's The Bachelorette had us hating this Chad guy.

Seriously, Chad had a lot of chitty things to say about almost all the guys in the house.

He was downright crappy about most everyone and was starting to look like this season's bad guy, so to speak.

But as the episode wore on and we got to watch Chad in action, he shared some fascinating perspectives about the cast of the house.

In fact at times, Chad was spot on about how the guys were getting their panties in a bunch.

This was basically your typical alpha-male taking over a situation with a lady. Come on, face it, we've all seen it and many have lost to it.

But this was classic, butt-headed pragmatism stepping in and thinking he is in charge.

It started to get entertaining as he referenced being accosted by the care-bears.

But alas, near the end of the episode we watched Chad devolve to the point of letting the guys get to him and he started making the usual boy-threats.

And I don't think he's going to last that long if it was that easy to get to him.

So let me say it now...  see ya Chad.

FANTASTIC FOUR (2015) Review

So I heeded the warnings back when this new Fantastic Four movie came out and skipped it at the theaters and caught it on HBO. The credit for director goes to Josh Trank, and the film stars

Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm (The Human Torch),
Kate Mara as Susan Storm (Invisible Girl),
Miles Teller as Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), and
Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm (Thing).

Oh, and Toby Kebbell plays Victor Von Doom or Doctor Doom.

-

FANTASTIC FOUR (2015) Review

Well, 20th Century Fox did it again and gave us yet another Fantastic Four origin movie. Admittedly, it was a different departure from the comics classic version, but still, yet another origins film.

Despite that, Josh Trank put forth an interesting alternate origins story.  But the development of their origin took the first two acts of the movie.

From one angle, it was a good, slow methodical development. On the other hand, it was a drawn out beginning, culminated by a quick third act as the team comes together to defeat the classic FF4 evil, Doctor Doom.

It's always Doctor Doom. Sigh.

AMCs THE NIGHT MANAGER Mini-Series Rocked, As Did It's Cast

I don't know if you caught the six-episode mini-series from AMC called The Night Manager, but this show delivered on many levels and was an enjoyable TV experience. And I think Tom Hiddleston fans will LOVE this performance of his.

-

Tom Hiddleston rocks in The Night Manager, a TV review

The Night Manager is an AMC-BBC co-produced series based on a 1993 John Le Carre spy novel of the same name, it stars Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston and watching these two lead the cast is a mesmerizing duo that face off against each other.

They are both brilliant and fun to watch, if you don't mind the anxiety these two performances create within your brain!

The basic premise is that Laurie plays Richard Roper, a ruthless arms dealer and Hiddleston plays Jonathan Pine, an ex-soldier and now night manager of upscale hotels, who finds a passionate reason to pursue Roper and get himself  involved in a British Intelligence investigation and becomes their operative.

-

The story itself, once you become engaged in rooting for Pine, can elicit all kinds of emotions from you. And this is a new look for Hiddleston. At least for this Marvel movie fan. It was a very refreshing look at Hiddleston in a different role, as he applies that suave, smooth exterior of his.

And yes, if the rumors about his being in negotiations to play James Bond are true or close to true, I think Hiddleston will make a brilliant Bond.

Hugh Laurie in The Night Manager, a TV review

As far as Laurie is concerned, if you watch the show on mute, you can see Dr. Gregory House reincarnated, with that stern and concentrated look of his. But if you turn the volume up, oh lord, it is NOT Dr. House. Laurie delivers one of the most insidiously intense criminals I have ever seen on the small screen.

I Just Watched The Last LIMITLESS Episode And I Am Bummed

I just watched the series finale of Limitless and though I was slightly bored with the series, the last few episodes really picked up the game for me. But alas, with CBS having just announced they cancelled Limitless this last week, I am sad to see the show go.

Brought to television by the man who starred in the original 2011 movie by the same name, Bradley Cooper, the series continued the story of different people manipulating the brain enhancing drug, NZT.

The following contains spoilers...

LIMITLESS series review, farewell Limitless
 Wait? We were cancelled?

Through the series we followed an ordinary man named Brian (Jake McDorman) used by the FBI, teaming up with Agent Rebecca Harris (Jennifer Carpenter) to solve crimes in hours or days that most agents would weeks, if even.

The FBI was giving Brian NZT to be able to solve the crimes. Unbeknownst to the FBI, Brian was able to resist the side affects of NZT because Senator Morra (the original character from the movie, played again by Bradley Cooper) was getting a shot to Brian that helped him not have side affects.

Colin Salmon in Limitless
Anything Colin Salmon is in just gets even better!

Throughout the series Morra pulled the strings of Brian, but then Jarrod Sands (Colin Salmon) showed up playing the muscle of Morra to make sure that Brian did not threaten their existence by giving them up.

Sands turns on Morra and becomes the primary threat because behind the scenes, Sands created his own team of NZT enhanced associates and suddenly Sands is running the show.

And trust me, a man on NZT is a formidable opponent that can think of EVERYTHING possible in any situation.

HERCULES (2014) Movie Review - Meh.

The other day I thought I'd check out the 2014 movie, Hercules, starring Dwayne Johnson (San Andreas, Ballers, Furious 7). The film was directed by Brett Ratner (X-Men Last Stand, Tower Heist, Rush Hour) and to be honest, I expected much more from the entire project.

The film received a 6/10 on IMDb and a 60% on Rotten Tomatoes.

"Having endured his legendary twelve labors, Hercules, the Greek demigod, has his life as a sword-for-hire tested when the King of Thrace and his daughter seek his aid in defeating a tyrannical warlord. "

Dwayne Johnson as Hercules in the 2014 movie. A review

The film starred Dwayne Johnson, Ian McShane, John Hurt, Rufus Sewell, Aksel Hennie and a few more in a sordid, somewhat boring tale of one event in the life of Hercules.

-

As the film opens, we get a quickie origins tale of the demigod and his twelve labors. So if you were looking for that action, it's been minimized.

But what we get is a Hercules after the death of his family and his dejected lifestyle of being a mercenary for hire. Him and his team take on the job to help Thrace defeat an evil invader.

But alas, this might now be all it's about, as some things take a turn.

-

The story is not very ingenious, the action is OK, even for Johnson. One of the characters is convinced he will know when he dies. And he's kind of the subtle but funny part of the film.

But on the bright side it is a very different Johnson because I've never seen him play a somber, depressed action hero before and by the end of this film, I was kind of somber right along with him! LOL.

Any way, it's just OK and the IMDb score is about right, sitting at a popcorn 6 here on Cinema Static.

It was on Amazon Prime and free, so it was the perfect price!

Tom Hiddleston Looking At JAMES BOND Role

It would seem that super early rumors (that I did not report because I don't trust early guessing/rumors) about the possibility of Tom Hiddleston potentially playing James Bond may not have been for naught.

Word on the street is that Daniel Craig would rather keel over than do another Bond film. (Unsubstantiated rumor) But with that being said, it would seem that the producers of the Bond films are indeed in contact with and chatting up Tom Hiddleston in the hopes of persuading him to take on the role.

The latest news/rumors are that everyone is in advanced talks.

That Hiddleston wants the role.

No offers have been made yet.

Of course there's the other news that Jamie Bell (Fantastic Four) has also been contacted by the Bond studio.

But if Hiddleston took over, I'd go see a James Bond flick in theaters for the first time in many, many years.

THE AMERICANS, LIMITLESS, ROBOTECH, SoA Spinoff!

FX has ordered a pilot script from Kurt Sutter for the Sons of Anarchy spin-off, called Mayans MC.

It will of course, focus on the Oakland-based biker club.

-

FX has chosen to cancel The Americans, but they have given them two more seasons to finish out their story. At least for now. They'll get 13 episodes for 2017 and 10 episodes in 2018.

-

CBS has its limits and they cancelled Limitless. It will not be returning for a second season.

Bummer.

-

If you're a Robotech fan you might like to know that Sony's Crackle has picked up the rights to the entire 1980s series.

THE FLASH Season Finale Might Have Jumped The Shark Thrice!

Up until this week, The Flash had been pulling along a pretty strong story with the Flash up against the evil Zoom.  Zoom had everyone in a corner and no one could touch him. Literally. Zoom just killed Barry's natural father, threatened the rest of Barry's family and held all the cards.

But then it seems or feels like the writers boxed themselves in a corner, having made too strong of a nemesis for Flash that Barry nor any of his normal human crew could tackle.

SPOILERS FOR THE Season Finale of The Flash are hurtling at you....

So what did they do?

First they killed off Barry's father, played by John Wesley Shipp. But it turns out that despite killing off the character, Zoom's hostage in the iron mask turns out to be the "real" Jay, from Earth 3, who is played by Shipp.

Can we never kill anyone off in these shows? It's getting redundant. Plus, when Shipp shows up in his Earth 3's Flash costume, he looked like he had a huge rod shoved up his (whoop!) and looked super stiff and uncomfortable. What the hell was up with that?

OK, so maybe we can get by with this almost unexpected turn of events. At least Shipp, who played Flash in the 90s TV show, gets to put the suit back on. And it was awesome they let him be in the show. Awesome homage.

-

Then there's Zoom's surprisingly ridiculous race of Zoom's design.

Zoom says you beat me, you win, I quit. I beat you, all of the alternate Earths will be destroyed. And Barry agrees.

Seriously? Zoom will keep his word and quit? I call bull! He'd never give in! Not when he can and has repeatedly beaten the Flash over and over.

Marvel Just F*d Up Captain America in The Comics

Well, I don't know about you, but if Marvel intends to more closely tie-in actual comic story lines with their cinematic universe, they just effed it up for me with Captain America in their newest comic title, ""Captain America: Steve Rogers" #1"

I just started truly getting on board with liking Captain America/Steve Rogers in the movies after being totally 'meh' about the character in the comics. But today headlines are splattering all over the internet that shows Captain America turning out to actually being a Hydra Agent, after all is said and done.

W.T.F. Marvel? Just what the f.?

To explain this new twist and attempt to keep things fresh, they've referenced how back in the day when Rogers was a child, his mother was abused by his father, and someone from Hydra stepped up and saved his mother from his father. Which means that all along, Rogers has been a Hydra fan/agent. (In my eyes)

If this is truly the case, I'm going to start wondering and worrying when or if this will come out in the movies? And if it doesn't, why is this story line kicking in gear in print?

I just got totally on board with being a Cap fan and now this.  Thanks Marvel. Thanks a bunch. I hope this is some short, alternate quirk of a story line. But from what little I'm seeing so far, it may not be.

There's more info on the issue and event over on CBR.

SUICIDE SQUAD Is Getting Rave Early Screening Reviews... Just Like BvS Did!

Remember when the early screenings that WB held for Batman vs Superman and everyone took to Twitter frothing all over themselves about how good it was?

Yes, about that... well, now WB is pulling that stunt again and they had an early screening with Suicide Squad and everyone who is supposed to not talk about it is raving about it and leaking their thoughts all over the internet, despite supposed embargoes.

Some are saying that Harley Quinn steals the show and other chest-beating statements. And to think, this film is not due out for a very, very long time yet!

It is a fun trailer... I'll give it that, but we've been duped by trailers before, right?

INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE | Trailer #3 - And I'm Worried

20th Century Fox just released the third official trailer for their sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence. which comes to theaters on June 23rd, 2016 But I'm a little worried.

Why am I worried? Because if you watch this 'extended' trailer, (extended is code for very long), they seem show what may amount to the entire story from start to finish! It's FIVE MINUTES LONG!

Normally studios or distributors don't give this much away unless they're worried about the film. As for me, well heck, I don't need to go see it in theaters now, we just got the entire film handed to us in this third trailer.

Watch for yourself if you dare, but be warned, there's more detail in this trailer than most trailers tend to give up. It seems almost chronologically ordered in the info that is given us.

"We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global catastrophe on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink
of extinction.

Directed by Roland Emmerich

Starring: Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward"
