The CWs INVASION Crossover Event - What A Disappointment

UPDATED after seeing the entire four-episode crossover series:

So far this week we've seen three of the four episodes of the big winter crossover of The CW's DC TV series. But to be honest, it's been a fairly hollow event, if this is what they call an event.

I don't get it when they crossover characters in different TV shows. Back when The Flash visited Supergirl when it was back on CBS, both characters were portrayed as overly giddy, or more chipper than their normal portrayals.

And I'm seeing this same, completely out of place humor in this crossover event. I mean, look, "it's aliens here to kill us all. How cool is that?" Seriously? This ill-placed humor has made this a disappointing TV event on The CW. And this crap humor continued right on into the first third of the final episode of this crossover event.

The first episode on Monday, Supergirl, had nothing to do with the Invasion story line. It was an empty episode, so to speak, until Barry and Cisco showed up in the last minute of the episode.

The Invasion story really started in The Flash, where a lot of development and action took place there.

SURVIVOR: Adam Klein's Mother Did Pass Away From Cancer

Tonight's episode of Survivor saw the family members visiting the Survivors. In the family reunion we Watched Adam greet his brother and they talked about Adam's mother, who, at the time of filming, had stage four lung cancer.

The insidious beast of cancer strikes again, because two days after Survivor filmed its final tribal council, his mother, Susie passed away.

I'm so sorry Adam.

Cancer is an insidious monster of a disease, that at the bottom of my heart, I believe, humanity can beat if we focused on it.

But we don't. Yet there are such simple things we can do to help fight the fight.

All it can take is $1.  I know that sometimes we don't always feel like we have enough to help donate to the fight. But even a "mere dollar" can help.

You see, for example, if 6 million people who tuned in to watch Survivor tonight, all decided to pick up the phone/laptop and send a dollar to a a charity for cancer. That would be a quick $6 million for the battle.

That's a lot of money.

POKEMON GO Ditto Rage: Have You Caught It?

POKEMON GO Ditto Rage: Have You Caught It?

Since Thanksgiving, Ditto has been out in the wild in Pokemon GO. But the trick is that it is hiding itself to look like other Pokemon in the wild. So have you caught the bug to chase down EVERY SINGLE Pokemon near you? And if you have, have you caught Ditto yet?

I haven't. But I'm up to 125,000 in stardust and a shit load of eggs! LOL.

It's a bit fun to have this Ditto beast hanging over our heads but to be honest, it can also be a way to force game players to burn through their poke balls and need to buy more. Especially if they're out in the barely supported rural regions.

But how can you find a Ditto?

Well, the Ditto hides out trying to look like something else. In one Facebook page post that has garnered over 3.6K comments, the more common Pokemon forms that Ditto seems to be taking are Rattatas, Pidgeys, Zubats and out of place Magikarps.

One person said they were suspicious of a moment when a Paras and Parasect showed up at the same time and they tackled the Paras.

And generally speaking, I'm not sure CP is a good indicator it's a Ditto. Some folks say they've caught them off of ~300CP Pidgeys or Rattatas, but others have seemingly indicated that they've caught a 90 CP Pidgey and it evolved into a 300CP Ditto.

Christmas Movie Marathon:

Call the Midwife was renewed for a third season by BBC.

HULU has bought the exclusive rights to The Powerpuff Girls. Those rights included all of the past episodes plus it includes the new series that came out this year. So if you're wondering where the series went, there it went, off to Hulu.

REMINDER: ABC's Quantico is moving to Monday in January.

I'm not sure what this means, but The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC had its highest ratings this year, in 13 years.

On top of that, The National Dog Show Presented by Purina had some of its best ratings in 14 years.  And yay for a dog with natural ears and tail for winning, and not some mutated, butchered version of dog!

But what this means is confounding.  Does it mean more people stayed in rather than go out to pricey movies? (IMAX screenings can cost $20 at ticket. Frack that!)  Or were fewer people tuning into Football and chose paraded and pets instead?

Either way, it's all good.

For The Michael Biehn Fan, Wondering What He's Up To, He's Winning Awards

via press release:

Blanc-Biehn Productions' Hidden in the Woods, She Rises Take Honors at Dublin's Horrorthon

- - -

Blanc-Biehn Productions (BBP), the independent film studio founded by actors/filmmakers Michael Biehn and Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, announces the Official Selection of two of its films, Hidden in the Woods and She Rises, at the Irish Film Institute's Horrorthon film festival.

The films, both of which star husband-and-wife team Biehn and Blanc-Biehn in leading roles.

Hidden in the Woods, directed by Patricio Valladares and based on a true story, depicts the agonizing ordeal of two teenage sisters tormented by their abusive father (Biehn). Relieved when he's finally imprisoned, the siblings soon find their troubles have just begun when they meet their psychotic drug kingpin Uncle Costello.

She Rises takes a road trip with a film director (Blanc-Biehn) and her leading man (Angus Macfadyen, Braveheart, also the writer of this film); lost in the middle of nowhere, they make the mistake of stopping at a quaint inn run by a seemingly sweet young woman (Daisy McCrackin) and a sinister character named Daddy Longlegs (Biehn). Award-winning director (Jacob) Larry Wade Carrell sets the tension level to HIGH with twists at every turn in this house of horrors, based on the story by Lony Ruhmann and The Marcus Brothers.  Lony Ruhmann is the executive producing partner on She Rises. Tony Debeneddetto also serves as one of the films producers.

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency has been renewed for a second season by BBC America.

Game shows To Tell The Truth and The Match Game are set to return to the air in January on ABC.

Hawaii Five-0 is losing Max!  Masi Oka, (Lost) who plays Dr. Max Bergman, is leaving the show after the 13th episode of season 7. His story line will be that he is moving to Africa with his new wife.

But what I'm thinking is that he's stepping out before the show goes out, which, if I remember correctly, is set to end soon, what with O'Loughlin rumored to be leaving the show after season eight, who knows.

Pretty Little Liars FINAL season will premiere on April 18th, on Freeform.

I think Pure Genius has been cancelled because CBS has declined to order any more episodes beyond the first 13 that have been ordered. Its ratings are horrible and you may not even get to see the entire 13-ep run.

If you liked the movie, you may be thrilled to know that TNT has ordered a pilot episode of Snowpiercer. Check out my review over on Brusimm.

The Night Shift was renewed by NBC for a fourth season.

Could We Get An Awesome December POKEMON GO Update Or Just More Rumors?

December POKEMON GO Update

POKEMON GO COULD Have 100 New Pocket Monsters, trading and other new options to play with, if rumors are true.

- - -

Sometime in December 2016, we should be getting a Pokemon Go update that will supposedly be delivering over 100 new Pokemon, including Legendary Pokemon, and depending on the rumor, we'll also be finally getting player vs player battle and trading options.

Oh yea, and Mew and Mewto will also finally be making their appearance.

These update rumors come from what developers who have been tinkering through game code, say will be happening because they've seen the additional code.

But Niantic, in their usually silent mode, has had nothing to say or tease us with. In fact any time Niantic has made an announcement, it's usually been after the fact when other sites discover actual updates or goodies. Though on the mildly bright side, Gen 2 Pokemon have been confirmed by Niantic, but just not when.

And these new potential "December updates" were just noticed in the update code that came out a few weeks ago for Thanksgiving, when we also got that Ditto update. (Has anyone seen that elusive purplish, pink beast yet?)

For me, I don't think we'll be seeing anything exciting. Or at least, I won't be holding my breath!

CWs SUPERGIRL And Her Batman Easter Eggs

I don't know if you watch Supergirl on The CW, formerly aired over on CBS, but they are still cranking out comparatively decent episodes over on The CW as they did on CBS.

How long that lasts, well, we'll see, but one of the fastest and first budget cuts they made was when Calista Flockhart checked out of the show within two episodes of it moving to the network.

Now, Jimmy Olsen was promoted and sits in Cat Grant's office. With all those TVs on in the background. Oh those TVs.

But I'll get back to those in a moment.

Over the last few seasons, in case you have not noticed, Supergirl sometimes makes quick but interesting references to what could be considered Easter egg nods to other DC characters in "her universe." I say "her universe," because when they did The Flash crossover with Supergirl, they put her in some other dimension where Green Arrow and the gang don't exist.

But over in her universe, in a recent episode, Kara made mention of Superman working with a vigilante once who has tons of gadgets and lots of demons. (paraphrased)

Last season she made a reference to Batman, possibly, when she made an off-handed comment to a foe saying that she thought masks were big in that other city.

We've also seen Gotham City referenced in the second season premiere.

Fans love these little nuggets or references to off-screen characters from the same universe, even if legal agreements between DC and networks can severely restrict the usage of obvious characters on various shows.

Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them is J.K. Rowling's latest attempt at continuing the Harry Potter franchise for the fans and the studios wallets.

And to be fair, I think this Harry Potter prequel is a complicated and entertaining film which is endearing to even non-Potter fans like myself. (I never saw any of the Potter films.) We have adults tossed into the magic mixer of a story and in my mind, gives the creative team more room to finagle with.

Fantastic Beasts is directed by David Yates (Harry Potter franchise films) and stars Eddie Redmayne, Colin Farrell, Katherine Waterston, Jon Voight, Ezra Miller & a very entertaining Dan Fogler.

The film takes place in 1926 New York and even though it's outside of the familiar Potter realm, there is still that familiar feel that I've seen in ads and snippets from that older franchise. But this time around, the adult roles can be easier to identify with.

Newt (Redmayne) is travelling to New York and carries a case that contains some interesting beasts within. But a few accidentally get out, giving us the basis for some of the story.

Legends of Tomorrow on The CW, had its episode order increased from 13 to 17. I'm not sure why, but that may bode well for the show for yet another season. Maybe.

The Magicians second season on Syfy, will be returning on Wednesday, January 25th.

HBO Renewed:

In case you were wondering, HBO has reported that they have renewed Westworld, Divorce and Insecure. Each of these new shows have been given a second season with this renewal order.

Marvel's Inhumans

Not sure if you heard but before Marvel premieres the The Inhumans on ABC, they're planning on releasing it to IMAX theaters first!  Yep, they're releasing the first two episodes as a movie, to IMAX.

What this means is that the show will run in IMAX theaters for two weeks in Sept of 2017, then the show will premiere in the following fall season.

This will be curious to see how it pans out. But it does meet the hopes or expectations of an Inhumans movie hitting theaters and gives ABC an alternate series to lean on if Agents of SHIELD pans out by then.

Curious what's coming out on Netflix in December?

DC To Try GREEN LANTERN Movie Character Again

Word on the street is that DC is going to be inserting a Green Lantern character somewhere in the 2017 Justice League movie. It's been said that the appearance won't be revisiting the character that got screwed up on film when Ryan Reynolds played the part, but rather, some other member of the Green Lantern Corp.

And yes, so far, there is still a Green Lantern Corps movie on the schedule for 2020.

As Reynolds more or less put it in an interview, for a decent film to happen, you have to have a script done and ready before filming, and not have a working version while filming. Dang...

No wonder the Green Lantern film flopped so bad. What a shame, because they had a great opportunity to bring that character to life on the screen, and it's not a B-character, and they flopped it? Shame on Martin Campbell!

Duck Dynasty is coming to an end. The present season that is airing on A&E, when it ends on April 12th, will be it series finale.  (Duck Dynasty on Amazon)

One Mississippi has been renewed for a second season by Amazon.

Syfy is developing a new series off yet another classic book, Robert A. Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land. The tale is of a man born on Mars who travels to Earth as a young man and explores the terrestrial culture. Syfy mildly butchered Childhood's End, when I couldn't wait for it to be over as they padded the living crap out of the story in the back half of the mini-series. Hopefully they don't mess up Stranger too much. We'll see what comes of this one.

The CW's Heroes V Aliens DC Crossover Event

Next week marks the week where all the DC property shows on The CW have a crossover event where everyone from Arrow, Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow more or less meets, greets, and kicks ass.

In the case of next week, we have aliens coming down to earth and our heroes have to band together to kick ass.

What I'm looking forward to is how they explain the Supergirl situation where the last time we saw her and the Flash in their own crossover, she was in a different dimension that did not have the other heroes in it. I hope they pull her into "this" world with this event.

I'm also curious how bossy Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) is? He's usually the one that needs to be in charge, but when faced against such raw power from the other teams, well...

We'll see.

Check out the 2-minute preview.

Conviction has been cancelled by ABC, but the net is expected to run with the 13-episode order, though there's no word on if they'll leave it in the time slot it's airing in now. I hope they don't change their minds! I have been collecting this show on my DVR to binge watch later, but when I see a show get cancelled, I tend to just delete the whole thing and smite it from my schedule. Why waste time on a show that won't move forward.

Dead of Summer has been cancelled by Freeform.

Notorious had its original episode order reduced from 13 to 10 by ABC. So that too is probably a good sign it's done with it's present season runs out.

The Goldbergs is getting a spinoff, or so the word on the street says. The spinoff, it if takes off, will focus on Bryan Callen's character, gym teacher Rick Mellor.

DUNE Remake Is On The Horizon!

News hit the web over the weekend that Legendary Entertainment has acquired the rights to Frank Herbert's Dune franchise. These rights are include both theatrical and television movie rights, allowing both Legendary and Universal to develop projects for both the large and small screen.

For those fans of the Dune franchise, this has to be a bundle of good news, because over the years, I've always wondered when they will ever create a newer version of the film, or, as they like to call it...  remake or re-imagining!

In case you don't know, the Dune book series won Hugo and Nebula Awards. The story is set in the distant future and tells the story of a family who accepts control of desert planet that is the hub of spice production.

But this planet is much sought after due to the spice and the family is betrayed for control of the commodity.

The story deeply explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature as the family looks to take back control of what was stolen from them.

Check out the press release below:

Legendary and the Frank Herbert estate have reached an agreement granting the production entity the film and television motion picture rights to the beloved novel DUNE, one of the most revered science fiction novels of all time. The agreement calls for the development and production of possible film and television projects for a global audience. The projects would be produced by Thomas Tull, Mary Parent and Cale Boyter, with Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert serving as executive producers.

Is GHOST RIDER Getting A Netflix Series?

Is GHOST RIDER Getting A Netflix Series?

So for anyone watching Agents of SHIELD, you are probably enjoying the Ghost Rider story arc going on this season. I love the subtle but aggressive mode that Marvel is portraying the devilish motorcycle rider as.

Fans are loving the latest rendition of Ghost Rider, played by Gabriel Luna. In fact fans have been asking for more GR, or more specifically, a series title over on Netflix!

The actor who portrays the character says that there's a structure in place that will support a move to Netflix or some other venue.

Now as you may know, when an actor says things about a project, it's almost akin to the company secretary speaking about the company's plans for her job position.

But we can all hope. I'd love to see a Ghost Rider show on Netflix. It would be a better fit there than in the movie realm, as we all know, that they've tried the movie route already.

We'll see, and hope! Right? Plus, I do love the Charger he's driving around in over in Agents of SHIELD!

VOLTRON Live-Action Film Under Development... Again... Maybe

A few years back we had heard all the news that there was a live-action Voltron film being developed. That live-action version panned out pretty fast then it became an animated series on Netflix titled Voltron Legendary Defender. A fun, animated version, for sure. You can see what I have to say here in this review...

But now that the animated version is doing so well, and that Universal snagged the scripts for the older live-action and now they're considering renewing the development process again.

They've given the writing assignment to David Hayter, who was the pen behind the first two X-Men and Watchmen films.

But before we get ahead of ourselves, at the moment, Universal is sitting at the script stage and waiting to see what Hayter might pump out before moving forward.

Word on the street suggests that Universal is waiting to see how the newest Power Rangers movie does, considering how similar the two franchises seem to be.

So time will tell just how far along this latest hope comes along.

Along with all the crazy twists that the Rebirth title brought to the modern day DC stories.

But among all the crazy twists is that The Watchmen may be coming along and finding themselves a part of the DC Universe.

You can start looking for the era-heroes starting with Batman #9.

They say that there's a lot coming out of the Batman titles, so pay attention.
