Weekend Box Office Report: '21 Jump St.' Jumps The Competition

This weekend as Cinema Static looks at the top-10 movies, newbie movie 21 Jump Street, starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, jumped up and snagged the no. 1 spot at the box office, taking in $35 million, beating out The Lorax and the far-fetched space odyssey of John Carter.

The Lorax with the voice power of Danny DeVito and Zac Efron, added almost $23 million to it's total gross and surprisingly, I guess enough folks went and tested out the 3D waters and hit up John Carter, starring Taylor Kitsch, adding almost $14M to it's total tally.

After the top-three films, there's a huge gap in funds but Project X, A Thousand Words and Act of Valor pulled in $3M bucks.

Of course it all won't matter next weekend.  The Hunger Games will open and destroy any other movie that even dares to show its face on celluloid, or whatever medium they project it from!

  1. By no means a great comedy, but it does demonstrate that playing against the grain can be a good move, especially when the people in charge have run out of ideas
