Julianne Moore Possibly Joining 'The Hunger Games'

Word on the street is that Julianne Moore is in talks to play District 13's president Alma Coin in The Hunger Games movie adaptation of Mockingjay.

The Hunger Games Catching Fire news

Knowing how the books go and how Coin is/can be, and having seen some of Moore's more stern roles in movies, I think this could be a great match up of actor and character.

Of course there are plenty of evil actors out there to play Coin.  OK, maybe evil is too strong a word.  Incredibly motivated to ground the Capitol into the ground is a better phrase for her.

What is disappointing to me is that Lionsgate has gone the obvious route of wanting as much of your money as they can get out of you by splitting this final book of the trilogy into two different movies.

I intend to see the second chapter of the trilogy, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, because it's been so long since I read the books that it should be a bit fresher than when I hit up The Hunger Games in theaters.

I have to say that when I saw the movie, it was only a few months after reading the trilogy and it was an almost bleak movie experience for me because after having read the books, there was so little exciting and new material that it almost became a boring experience.

I was thankful that to then directory Gary Ross for mixing it up just enough to make me go "Oh!" while watching the movie.

Now Francis Lawrence (Water for Elephants, I Am Legend) is helming the second, third (and fourth) Hunger Games movies, as I presume he probably asked for less of a paycheck than Ross did.

Either way, looking at Lawrence's resume I think the rest of this film franchise is in good hands.

But depending on how the second book movie goes, I'm not sure about the next two movies... if for any reason, out of principle.

I'm evil-patient and can wait for something to come to On Demand or even FX (Or whatever network drops the big coin to air the movies on TV with incredibly loud and numerous TV ads.)

For the time being though, Moore looks like she'd be a good addition to The Hunger Games movie franchise.
