Capstone Showcases Fun, Kid-Friendly Comics, Author Events, and Giveaways at Comic-Con International

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – July 16, 2013 – Capstone, a leading publisher of children’s books and digital products and services, will feature some of the best in kids’ comics and super hero books at San Diego Comic-Con International, July 17-21. Highlights from Capstone’s schedule at booth 1316 include a raffle for a Mr. Puzzle jig saw puzzle, a signed hardcover copy of the DC Super-Pets Character Encyclopedia, special author and illustrator appearances, and DC Super Hero and DC Super-Pets giveaway items, such as book bags, Frisbees, posters, bookmarks, and luggage tags.

Capstone will hold a drawing for a Mr. Puzzle jig saw puzzle, a fun activity for the whole family to enjoy. Fans will recognize the incredible Mr. Puzzle from his debut on Free Comic Book Day in May, where the sampler received rave reviews from kids and adults alike. Comic-Con attendees will be among the first to preview and purchase the complete, 128-page graphic novel Mr. Puzzle Super Collection! (for ages 8-11), not available to the public until August. Written and illustrated by Chris “Elio” Eliopoulos, creator of popular all-age comics from Oni Press, Kogama Press, Boom!, V12 Kids, Namco Bandai, and Top Shelf including Okie Dokie Donuts, Mr. Puzzle can stretch, bend, shrink, grow, and will work hard to keep the folks of Busyville safe from trouble. He’s a super hero who’s a perfect fit for all problems!

One lucky DC Super-Pets fan will have the chance to win an advance, signed copy of the DC Super-Pets Character Encyclopedia by Steve Korté and illustrated by two-time Eisner Award winner Art Baltazar. The illustrated encyclopedia features in-depth profiles, stats, and histories of more than 200 DC Comics characters and includes an introduction by legendary creator Geoff Johns. A must-have for comic book lovers young and old!

2013 Eisner Award judge Dr. Katie Monnin will sign copies of her new book Teaching Reading Comprehension with Graphic Texts: An Illustrated Adventure, on Saturday, July 20 at 10:00 a.m. in the Capstone booth. An engaging and innovative resource, Monnin’s book shows K-12 teachers how to read, understand, and teach the unique vocabulary and anatomy of the graphic text format.

Capstone will also have special appearances by authors and illustrators Scott Sonneborn (Comics Land, THE MAN OF STEEL and THE DARK KNIGHT series), Jessica Bradley (Comics Land series), and Dr. Meryl Jaffe (Using Content-Area Graphic Texts for Learning). Dr. Jaffe will also appear on three panels with acclaimed children’s comics creators and educators, including “CBLDF: Raising a Reader” (12:00 – 1:00 p.m. on July 19, Room 30CDE), “How to Conquer Earth, One Image at a Time: The Power of Visual Literacy” (10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on July 21, Room 30CDE), and “Today’s Kids’ Heroes…and Why They Don’t Wear Capes” (2:00 – 3:00 p.m. on July 21, Room 32AB).
