'Insidious 2' Smites the Competition At the Movie Theaters

Last weeks' No. 1 movie, Riddick, slid to the third spot in the box office charts, as Insidious: Chapter 2 rocked the boat with a $41M weekend.

The Family knocked out a second place finish by pulling in $14.5M.

Riddick secured a third spot with a $7M weekend, and our favorite fugitive was followed up in fourth by The Butler ($5.6M) and We're the Millers ($5.4M).

Last week I thought that maybe Vin Diesel might hold on to the top spot at the box office, but that seemed to be wishful thinking.

Insidious: Chapter 2, from FilmDistrict, starred Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne and Ty Simpkins in this ghostly sequel that trounced the competition.

Over on IMDb, film fans rated the show at a 7.3.

I'm thinking that scary movies are never out of season, even in September!
