'Sons of Anarchy' Recap of "Poenitentia" fr 9-24-13

In this episode of Sons of Anarchy, Toric is showing how on-edge he is, and is getting ahead of himself in his fervor to bring down SAMCRO.  Clay finally reveals his hand to Jax, with his tradings with Toric and Tig has some 'splaining to do.

As far as the title goes, "Poenitentia" stands for repentance of regret.  In legal terms, Locus Poenitentia is a place of repentance or the opportunity of withdrawing from a projected contract.

THAT is a very important tidbit for tonight's episode, as you will soon see.

Shall we get to it?

SPOILERS are abound...

The episode Opens

...With San Joaquin County District Attorney Tyne Patterson (CCH Pounder) giving a press conference on TV about the school shooting and she will get to the bottom of where that gun came from.

During the conference, as a sound backdrop, we check in on Nero (Jimmy Smits) at confessional, Toric (Donal Logue) lying in bed after a night with one of Nero's hooker, Jax (Charlie Hunnam) riding his bike, Bobby (Mark Boone Junior) working on his pursuit of a new nomad chapter in Nevada.

Toric Is One Unstable SoB (But we knew that already)

As the teaser winds down, Patterson pulls up to Toric's hotel, with Toric looking out the window.  His hooker gets out of the shower and startles Toric, who accidentally pulls the trigger of a gun he was holding.

Without batting an eye, he tells her it will be OK, then smothers her face with a pillow and finishes the job he accidentally started.

As if that's not bad enough, Toric leaves his room for the day, leaving a body in the tub and a 'do not disturb' sign on the door of his hotel room.

He heads out to prison to get Clay to finally sign that paperwork he's been carrying around for a while.

In latter pursuits, Toric has a few of Nero's men tied up and is tryint to extract information from them by extracting teeth with a beer bottle.  That information being on the whereabouts of the mother (missing) of the school shooter.

By the end of the episode, we see that Toric has been driven, or taking the opportunity, of taking some trace evidence from his dead hooker friend in either Gemma's (Katy Segal) or Nero's truck.  Not sure which, but it would make more sense for it to be Nero's vehicle.

We later see a scene where the cops were called out to the dump location of the hooker's body and the mystery 911 caller said he saw a truck pull away from the scene.

Toric is doing everything under the book to nail these boys.

Clay, That Father-Son Visit, And Developments

Clay's (Ron Perlman) future seemed pretty bleak coming into this episode.  With that being said, Jax finally shows up at the clinker to visit the father.  Clay lets Jax in on what's expected of him from Toric and apologizes for everything that's gone down.

And then tells Jax he isn't giving the club up.

Jax in turn, faces the one-way mirror that Toric is behind and explains that he's sorry for Toric's sister, that Otto acted alone and is no longer a member, and that he should stay away from Tara.

Toric tries to get Clay to sign that confession.  But Clay digs in and signs nothing, all the while, knowing he will die soon in prison.

But what unfolds for Clay is a surprising (I guess it should not have been) turn of events within the prison walls.

Three members of Pope's old gang show up.  Clay starts to put up a fight, and as he resigns himself to his fate, they tell him his fate is up to him.

Wha?

Later, Clay finds himself as the figure-head for a race riot and he ends up shiving an enemy of the Pope-gang in the base of the skull.

Clay is earning his keep and his life in prison.

But this is all part of a plan that comes from the outside, and Jax.

It seems that with Jax trying to get out from under his Irish gun contract, he feels that Clay could help smooth the way to that end and asks Pope's former second-in-command, August (Billy Brown) to watch out for Clay in the clanker.

So What Was Jax Up To in This Episode?

Plenty of things, and it seems, he's getting a wee bit delusional about the women in his life, to boot.

Peter Weller in Sons of Anarchy

Jax, Nero and the guys have a meet with Charles Barosky (Robocop... I mean Peter Weller) and Colette (Kim Dickens) about her business and prepping for going legit, when a drive-by opened up on them with submachine guns.

The drive-by came from our torture-porn Iranians who are looking for their brother, whom Tig (Kim Coates) killed in urine a bit back.

Jax and Barosky go have a social meet with the Iranians which end in Barosky backing Jax on seeing the brother alive, then some throat slicing deliberations where Barosky tells them to set sail and don't come back.

Barosky asks Jax if they had anything to do with the brother disappearing.  Jax says no (while eyeballing Tig) since he gave no such order.  Even Jax wasn't aware of what went down with the urine drinker.

Jax asks Tig if he killed the brother, which Tig denies.  (Come on Tig, lying to Jax?)  later sends Tig to the warehouse where the porn equipment is, asking him to box it up and wait there for him.

Jax later heads out to visit his new hooker girlfriend, Colette, but he finds her riding Barosky and Jax seems... agitated about it. Seriously boyo??

Later, Jax meets and thanks August for intervening for Clay and gives August a piece of paper with the information August was looking for, whatever that was.

(See later)

To Wrap it Up

Bobby is having what looked like a successful nomad meeting.

Drea de Matteo as Wendy in Sons of Anarchy

Wendy (Drea de Matteo) comes looking for Jax, looking for protection (she tells Gemma), but is actually faking the attack.  Gemma is doing as much as she can to keep her isolated from Jax, but after some back and forth, maybe Gemma is satisfied Wendy isn't looking to snag her kids back.

In a previous conversation, Gemma asked Tara (Maggie Siff) about the guardianship thing and Tara blows it off as if it's not happening.

Later at home, Jax finds paperwork on the table.  (I believe it's the papers drawn up to give guardianship to Wendy)

OH, and that "information" that Jax gave August earlier?

August and gang show up at the warehouse that Tig is sitting in.  They all see each other, August is rolling up that note Jax gave them.  Tig sees the situation and mutters "oh s***!" out-loud.

Toric is off his rocker and working hard at fabricating whatever he can to start implicating SAMCRO.

Jax is balancing out the different crews, trying to pave the way to a legitimate lifestyle for the club.

And he still doesn't know about the divorce papers headed his way from Tara.

Gemma is hovering and doing her best Walter White impersonation, screwing people when they're not looking and saying she didn't do it. (It's all about family...  again.)

Not sure where Bobby's nomad story is going, unless this is going to develop slowly and be a bigger piece of the story next season, the show's last.

And what the bloody heck is August doing there, facing off with Tig?

Kim Coates as Tig, in Sons of Anarchy

Do you think Tig is finally gone?  Has he made his final last big snap of a mistake?  Was lying to Jax a BAD, BAD thing?

I'm hoping not.  As imbalanced as Tig and his doll fears can be, I like the guy.  He has this sane mode where he's the voice of reason in any situation... for the first five minutes.  Then totally commits to the moment, come hell or high water.

Psst: Who else thinks this is the perfect role cast for Peter Weller?  I think he fits right in with the world of SAMCRO.
