'Sons of Anarchy' Recap of “Wolfsangel” w/ 10 Observations

Recap: Timothy V Murphy and Charlie Hunnam in Sons of Anarchy

Hey gang, this recap/review of Sons of Anarchy episode titled "Wolfsange," it's going to be presented chronologically, as it happened.  Normally I tap out notes then reorganize them in a more coherent mode, sectioned by character mode.  But by the time I got around to editing my notes, it was almost 2 in the morning and figured since I have  day job, maybe sleep first...  post later.

It's gotta be what it is brutha!

With that said, here's what happened last night, (OPINIONS and THOUGHTS in {}'s) along the way and of course, being a recap, SPOILERS are abound, aplenty lads and laddies.

-

Wayne (Dayton Callie) wakes up to a morning beating, where skinheads have come after the club in retaliation for what Clay did inside the clinker a few weeks ago.  They carve a swastika on Wayne's stomach.  {That's just the ugly side of the biz!}

Tig (Kim Coates) shows up at Jax's place and tells him about August (Billy Brown) showing up at the porn warehouse, and asks if he's good with him.  Jax says yes.  {Jax is obviously surprised he's still alive, and found out later that this was a loyalty test set forth by August.}

Nero (Jimmy Smits) shows up at work, to the awaiting police informing him of the murdered escort, and we see Toric (Donal Logue) watching the interaction from across the street.  {I think this was Toric's biggest mistake, because later, Eli thinks on this odd behavior, which helps him make an interesting decisions.  Keep reading, you'll see.}

August seems to want in on the gun business. {Or so it seems,  This could be good for Jax (Charlie Hunnam), who wants out of the business as it stands.}

Gemma (Katey Sagal) is the one who finds Wayne.  And while Tara (Maggie Siff) is later, patching him up, he voices his concern about what if the kids were there?  Gemma snaps and gets seriously defensive about "my kids!"  That irks Tara.

Jax can't get the San Bernadino charter to take the gun business from the Irish.  The "table" voted it down.

Wendy (Drea de Matteo) calls Gemma and tells her about the guardianship paperwork that Tara has been drafting up.  {WTF???}

Chibs (Tommy Flanagan) asks Jax about making unilateral calls without counseling the table.  Jax explains how he has to make some calls on the fly and Chibs says he sounds just like the guy that used to sit in "that" chair.

Toric visits the DA Patterson, (CCH Pounder), telling her that the dead hooker, I mean escort, was willing to turn evidence on folks to him and now she shows up dead.  {This guy is a real piece of work!}

While under questioning by Dept Sheriff Eli Roosevelt (Rockmond Dunbar) Nero explains to sheriff his whereabouts "last night," during the time frame of the murder.  Nero also inquires about Toric and Gemma shows up and has a sort of heart-felt one-on-one with Eli, asking him if he really thinks Nero is a killer?

Jax meets with the Irish,but Galen (Timothy V. Murphy) tells jax he's not getting out of the gun business.  They scuffled a little, but the Irish, being warned off by Jax, seem, smug.

The cops find the evidence in Nero's truck tying him to the escort's murder, but after his chat with Gemma, Eli seems to understand the evidence was planted, and starts looking into Toric.

Here comes the fun stuff!
Toric visits Clay (Ron Perlman)... tries to coerce Clay to sign the confession.  Again.

The Irish show up at the club's gun warehouse and execute the two club members watching the place.  {The s*! is starting to hit the fan now.}

Jax and gang show up to find their boys, their prospects, cut up and left to be found.

Eli lets Nero go.

Kim Coates, Tommy Flanagan and Charlie Hunnam in Sons of Anarchy

Jax is looking to finish the retribution on the Nazi hit on Wayne, and does one hell of a job cutting them down.  Jax and the boys head up to the arian house and let loose, killing them all.  Jax orders the guns cleaned down, the boxes of guns put in their house and then to burn it all down.

Nero, talking with Gemma, seems to be regretting being knee-deep in these murderous events going around him.

Toric takes Clay to see Otto (show runner/creator Kurt Sutter!)... and the condition he's in after all of Toric's arranged brutalities.  Clay greets Ottis with a hug, and slips him his shank.  {It's here that I thought Otto would off himself.}

Toric keeps pushing Clay, threatening that Otto can still turn evidence on him.  He threatens Clay and tells him the guys that have been visiting Otto will show up the next morning for him.  Toric leaves his cell, smiling.

It turns out that Wendy has been feeding Gemma pre-planned information from Tara. {Dang!  Nice turn of events, though I'm not sure what Tara's plan is, unless it's to show how imbalanced Gemma can be.}

Toric visits Otto, lying to him about Clay betraying the club.  He gives Otto a pen and pad to write down anything incriminating about Clay.

And then the most beautiful moment of the season takes place...

First, Otto wrote on the pad that Toric's sister's blood tasted as good as her p*!  Toric loses it and attacks Otto, Otto stabs him a few times, then gets behind him, holding him hostage.  The guards show up... Otto slices open Toric's neck, killing him.  Then he rushes the guards, and gets his release from this life as they gun him down.

Jax and boys bury their lost comrades.

Jax still has a lot on his mind with the Irish.

Thoughts or Questions:
1) Is it me or is Chibs getting harder to understand???  Regardless, he seems to be getting more dissatisfied with each new development.
2) With Toric out of the equation, what's to come of things now?  Will this give Patterson more fuel on the club or give her a different direction to go in her pursuit of Clay, the club or the guns responsible for the school shooting?
3) Tig is on shaky ground with Jax and needs to toe the line and not kill anyone else out of nutty, angry moods.
4) Nero might be wanting out.  He lamented to Gemma about taking many years to get out of what took him just a few weeks to get back into.  He says he loves her and hopes that if he has to split, that she go with him.  She hesitates but returns his words.  I don't believe she'd leave the club and Tara's kids.  Unless she's cooking up a plan to run with Nero and take the kids with her.
5) What will Eli find on Toric?  How will that, if anything, move the story forward now that Toric is gone?  Will the evidence in Nero's truck pan out or be another issue to deal with?
6) Otto, regardless of anything else, redeemed himself to the club (whether he wanted to or not) when he kills Toric.  I know that wasn't really the intent, but it could be seen this way.  As far as I'm concerned, he's out of the misery he was living with every day.  RIP Otto.  Thanks for the good work!
7) Oh come on!!!  I liked those prospects!!!  Sutter, you evil...  damn you.  Nice twist there bud!
8) No developments on Bobby pursuing his nomad charter this time around, but I can't wait to see how that figures into the end-game or later on in the season.
9) Jax is going to have his hands FULL with the Irish gun running problems.  They've already shown what they're willing to do to keep the guns running, including, ignoring Jax's denial to receive any guns.  This will come to a head that can't be pretty.
10) Another excellent 90-miunute excursion into the world of Kurt Sutter's mind and SAMCRO.  If it weren't for Sons of Anarchy, I'd be completely despondent with Breaking Bad having left the airwaves with its series finale last weekend!
