Syfy's Summer Thursday: DEFIANCE and DOMINION

Syfy's DEFIANCE and DOMINION news: summer season premiere dates

Syfy is looking to prove their commitment to providing viewers with quality, scripted content for genre fans.  And that means that starting on Thursday, June 19th 2014, they will be providing a Thursday night block of this kind of entertainment.

This should be a great thing for fans of this genre, and it could be a good thing for those who were fans of the CW series, Smallville. Or Whedonesque fans.  (Keep reading, you'll see what I mean in a moment.)

The shows airing on Thursday nights will include Defiance and Dominion.

When Defiance returns for its season premiere on June 19, we watch the turmoil that comes about after The Earth Republic has taken control of the town.

Nolan (Grant Bowler) traverses the badlands to find a lost Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas), Amanda (Julie Benz) has an unexpected new role in the town as she searches for Kenya and the Tarr family desperately tries to keep control of their criminal empire in the midst of dramatic changes.

New cast members to the series include James Murray as the new mayor Niles Pottinger, Anna Hopkins as Earth Republic soldier Jessica “Berlin” Rai and William Atherton as Earth Republic official Viceroy Mercado.

After the season premiere of Defiance, we'll see the series premiere of Dominion.  Be warned, it's a 90-minute premiere.

if you've ever seen the 2010 movie Legion, then your a leg up on the story of this new series, since it's based on characters from that film.

Dominion is a supernatural action drama that takes place 25 years after the events in Legion, and takes place in the aftermath of a devastating war between angels and mankind, which has left the world a changed place.

We follow the trek of a rebellious soldier amidst the celestial battle as it touches down on earth.

Dominion stars Christopher Egan (Kings), Tom Wisdom (300), Roxanne McKee (Game of Thrones), Alan Dale (Lost), Anthony Stewart Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Luke Allen-Gale (The Borgias).

For Smallville fans, it might be of interest to note that Smallville's showrunners, Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer joined the creative team of this series as Executive Producers/Co-showrunners.  This could give it the potential same engaging story feel that Smallville had, that captured fans hearts for 10 seasons of that show.
