FORTITUDE TV Review

TV review of Fortitude, which aired on Pivot TV

This is a review of Fortitude, which aired on Pivot TV. This review originally appeared on our sibling site, Brusimm.com.

Fortitude is a fascinating, slow burn of a show that keeps you on the edge of your seat while waiting for something dead to sit up and take credit for your fears. Despite not being a Sci-fi series. I know, confusing, huh?

Fortitude stars Stanley Tucci, Sienna Guillory, Christopher Eccleston, Michael Gambon, Jessica Raine, Luke Treadway, Richard Dormer and more.

The story summary says “Perched on the edge of the Arctic Circle, Fortitude is one of the safest towns on earth. There has never been a violent crime here. Until now. ” But that barely touches on the surface of the story, and what is truly behind this murder mystery.

Not only that, but it is who commits the crime that is shocking, along with the escalation of subsequent events, as it keeps you on edge, wondering just what the heck is going on???

This is not an American production, so the story does not cater to the need for immediate gratification. It details out an event, dolls you along for a while about it, then when you least expect it, this detail from out of the blue shows up, and we get the back story that leads up to the event.

The oddest part about this show for me, was that the underlying dark tone of the story felt like the build up to a bad sci-fi movie, but the monster never pops out at you. I think that speaks to my seeing way too many sci-fi flicks.

It has an odd tone, like the subdued environment you might find on the frozen tundra but a great story with many characters who have their own selection of flaws that get in the way of a clean resolution through the season of episodes.

Once I started following the story, it was good enough that my curiosity kept me coming back and binge watch the episodes I had on hand.

I would be remiss if I did not mention that the story cleans up well to end the season, but is left just right for a second season, and yes, a second season is on its way.

Kind of Story Spoilers below:

Along with the show, they kept advertising the idea of learning about the science in Fortitude. You see, the story events are based on what would happen if…

– The climate changed, what would happen to humanity,

– How the nasty visitors in the show are nothing compared to real-life visitors,

– Environmental toxins impact on us,

– Infectious diseases and their impacts on our state of mind.
