Why Did Paramount Move STAR TREK BEYOND Release Date?

Star Trek Beyond movie news

In case you had not heard, the Star Trek Beyond release date has been pushed back. If you are wondering why, well, here's the gist of it from the side of the movie industry:

With the release of Tarzan on July 1 2016, it seems that WB has snagged every single IMAX theater there is, locking Star Trek out of the large format theaters. Which whether it is or not, seems like a smooth tactical move on WB's part.

This prompted Paramount to push their release date back from July 8th, to July 22nd, 2016 so they can shove this bad boy Trek film into IMAX theaters.

No one knows if Paramount will try to lock up all the IMAX's like WB did, but snagging the large-format screenings definitely helps their bottom line and profit margins.

That should be an interesting clue as to the profitability of 3D and large-format movie screenings, where they charge 150% the 2D prices.

Justin Lin directs, replacing Roberto Orci who was going to be directing.

The cast for the Star Trek Beyond includes returning talent of Chris Pine (Captain Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Karl Urban (Bones), Simon Pegg (Scotty), Anton Yelchin (Chekov) and John Cho (Sulu). New actors in the ensemble include Idris Elba, Sofia Boutella and Joe Taslim.
