New Look, AMERICAN IDOL, TOP BOY, Premiere Date Lists

News and Other Static

YES, Cinema Static has a new look. I'm making an effort to spruce things up and ramp up some content publication rates. We'll see how this goes. Also, movie reviews are returning to this site, leaving Brusimm to the more serious, consumery kind of posts.

-

It's official, in that Netflix has completely cut their ties with Kevin Spacey. No surprise there!

-

ABC has announced that it's "revival" of American Idol will be premiering on their network on Sunday, March 11th!  Ryan Seacrest will be hosting while Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie will be the judges.

The press release says,

The nationwide search for the next superstar kicked off in August, as the Idol Bus traveled from Portland, Oregon, to Orlando, Florida, in its pursuit for talent, covering 23 cities across the country. Auditioning was made easier than ever as hopefuls also had the opportunity to submit audition videos online, as well as via select social media platforms using an official tag, #TheNextIdol, cultivating over 300,000 posts. Also, for the first time in “American Idol” history, hopefuls had the opportunity to audition through a livestream platform.

Industry insiders thing that Shark Tank will be getting bumped back to Friday nights.

Netflix's Top Boy is returning for a new, third season, some time in 2019. Keep an eye out if you were a fan of the first two seasons.

The reason there's such a large gap is that the first two (and only) seasons were broadcast in the UK, and Netflix picked it up. Now, Netflix is cranking out it's own season of the show.

The press release says,

The new episodes pick up as Dushane (Ashley Walters) returns from exile to his home in London to reclaim his throne in the highly lucrative drug market. He teams up with Sully (Kane Robinson), his spiritual brother, partner, and sometime rival who is also returning to the same streets after his own form of exile – prison – comes to an end.  Awaiting them both is Jamie, the young, hungry and ruthless gang leader whose ambitions leave no place for Dushane and Sully.

-

Lifetime is ordering a spin-off series, called Married at First Sight: Jamie and Doug Plus One.

If you saw it previously, the press release says,

"It's been three years since Jamie and Doug met for the very first time at the altar, on season one of "Married at First Sight." Though their relationship wasn't exactly a fairytale, they stuck with it and are now happily married, preparing for the birth of their new child, after the devastating miscarriage of their son last year."

It's premiering on Tuesday, Dec 19th.

-

Julianna Margulies has landed a role on AMC's dark comedy series, called Dietland.

--- Prior Notes

We're not sure when, but it seems Ben Afleck will be stepping down as Batman some time soon. Just not sure when. But if you have read recent reviews of how people felt he filled the bat suit during Justice League, it could very well be sooner than later! You know, it's like when men cook badly so that their wife will never ask them to do it again kind of thing.
