It would seem that they are having a cool contest for anyone who is a super fan and wants to be Pacific Rim 2, or, Pacific Rim: Uprising.

Yep.

Their Twitter account they've been using to support the film announced that they will give two lucky fans a spot in the film! That spot will consist of appearing as a hologram in a scene that shows a "Hall of Heroes," which in the film, is a memorial to some of the greatest Jaeger pilots in the history of their Kaiju war.

To express your 'super fan' mode, you will be able to show it via cosplay, video, tattoo or anything creative you can come up with.  I'm betting if you built a Jaeger, that would qualify.

The video has John Boyega explaining this to you, yes, Finn, from Star Wars The Force Awakens and the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but, um, wow, he's got an accent I did not see coming!

And yes, I admit it, huge fan of the Pacific Rim franchise.  As Honest Trailers put it,

"The summer's guiltiest pleasure which is the most awesome dumb movie ever made or the dumbest awesome movie ever made, starring things your inner 9-year-old will love..."

And it's true.

Right?

Now to be honest, I'm confused by the musical accompaniment with the trailer... but then my inner-9-year-old kicks in and I DON'T CARE!

Pacific Rim Uprising is directed and screenplay written by a man who is good at dealing out franchises like this, Steven S. DeKnight. His resume includes Netflix's Daredevil, Spartacus: War of the Damned, Spartacus: God of the Arena, Joss Whedon's Dollhouse, The CWs Smallville, Whedon's Angel... well, you get the point. He knows what he's doing.

The sequel takes place 10 years after events in the original film, and we'll see some new cast of characters.

Jake Pentecost (John Boyega, who is co-producing) is the son of Stacker Pentecost (played by Idris Elba in the original film), and it's up to him to prevent another doomsday scenario.

It comes out in March of 2018.
