New Movies This Friday: This Means War; Ghost Rider

This week, the new movies coming out in theaters this Friday, February 17th include some spies fighting over a girl and the sequel to Nicolas Cage's floundered 2007 Ghost Rider movie.

If one thing can be said Twentieth Century Fox, moving This Means War opening date back a week so they aren't going toe-to-toe with The Vow wasn't a bad movie, considering how well The Vow did at the box office last weekend!

In This Means War, the first time I saw the a trailer, my first thought was Spy vs. Spy.  LOL.  Be that as it may, the film summary goes as follows:

Two top CIA operatives wage an epic battle against one another after they discover they are dating the same woman.

It's directed by McG and stars Reese Witherspoon, Chris Spine and Tom Hardy.

McG loves his action movies, if Terminator Salvation is any indication.  And looking at his television productions like Human Target, Chuck, Nikita and Supernatural, well, it can't be a total fail. Right?

Though the early movie review from The Playlist gives this movie a D+.  Not sure how they stack up against how I look at movies, but there you have it for one perspective.  But The Hollywood Reporter says it's a "perfectly dreadful romantic action comedy."

But hey, the movie-goer will speak their minds with their wallets this upcoming weekend. Right? Maybe?

-Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance has Nicolas Cage reprising his fiery headed role of Johnny Blaze, aka, Ghost Rider.  In the comics, Ghost Rider can be cool, but for me, it's not really translated well to the silver screen.  But is this the sequel to change all that?

GRSV stars Cage, Violante Placido, Ciaran Hinds, Idris Elba.  Christopher Lambert and Buffy alum Anthony Head is also in the cast.

Ghost Rider 2 is directed by Neveldine AND Taylor.  Yes, two directors who are a team.  But being the writers behind Jonah Hex, and the creative forces behind Gamer and the Crank movie franchise, well, I'm not sure I'm being pulled in to rush to the movie theater to see this newest version of Blaze.

The 2010 animated movie, The Secret World of Arrietty is opening nationally.  The movie summary says:

"The Clock family are four-inch-tall people who live anonymously in another family's residence, borrowing simple items to make their home. Life changes for the Clocks when their daughter, Arrietty, is discovered."

It's based off the novel called The Borrowers and seems to have a decent feedback score of 7.7 out on IMDb.
