Defiance, the First 14 minutes:

The ads for Syfy's Defiance are looking pretty good.  The snippets of game preview, are looking badass.  I don't see any reason for this show not doing well at the TV and game console, as players interact with the franchise via a game.

But time will tell, as always.  Though I do like the story.

There's not much to dislike in this 14-minute trailer.

Defiance premieres April 15, at 9/8c on Syfy

via press release:

DEFIANCE (NEW ORIGINAL SERIES)

Premieres Monday, April 15 at 9PM – Syfy’s highly-anticipated transmedia event Defiance is the first-ever convergence of television and online gaming, featuring an interconnected world between the two mediums as they evolve together into one overall story. The series’ luminous cast includes Grant Bowler, Julie Benz, Stephanie Leonidas, Tony Curran, Jaime Murray, Graham Greene and Mia Kirshner. Set in the near future, Defiance introduces an exotically transformed planet Earth, its landscapes permanently altered following the sudden – and tumultuous – arrival of seven unique alien races. In this somewhat unknown and unpredictable landscape, the richly diverse, newly-formed civilization of humans and aliens must learn to co-exist peacefully. Each week, viewers will follow an immersive character drama set in the boom-town of Defiance, which sits atop the ruins of St. Louis, MO, while in the game, players will experience the new frontier of the San Francisco Bay area.

The series is executive produced by Kevin Murphy (“Desperate Housewives,” “Caprica,” “Hellcats”), who also serves as showrunner, Michael Taylor (“Battlestar Galactica”) and Rockne O’Bannon (“Farscape”). Scott Stewart (“Legion,” “Priest”) directed the pilot; Michael Nankin will serve as supervising producer/director on the series. Defiance is produced by Universal Cable Productions.

I've only seen the headline snippets, but it would seem that X-Files is headed the route of the comic book, finally getting that "tenth season!"

Sometimes, comics work for franchises.  Ask Joss Whedon.  Firefly, Buffy and Angel have all lived on in that venue.

Hey! A fan is a fan, and fans sometimes will take what they can get.  Right?

The Sharks – tough, self-made, multi-millionaire and billionaire tycoons – will give budding entrepreneurs the chance to make their dreams come true and potentially secure business deals that could make them millionaires. They are: billionaire Mark Cuban, owner and chairman of AXS TV and outspoken owner of the 2011 NBA championship Dallas Mavericks; real estate mogul Barbara Corcoran; “Queen of QVC” Lori Greiner; technology innovator Robert Herjavec; fashion and branding expert Daymond John; and venture capitalist Kevin O’Leary.

The entrepreneurs who dare to enter the Tank must try to convince the Sharks to part with their own hard-earned cash and give them the funding they desperately need to turn their dreams into million dollar realities. But the Sharks have a goal, too – to get a return on their investment and own a piece of the next big business idea. When the Sharks hear an idea worth sinking their teeth into, they’re more than ready to declare war and fight each other for a piece of it.

“Shark Tank” received a 2012 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Reality Program and was nominated for a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Reality Series.

Mark Burnett, Clay Newbill and Phil Gurin are the executive producers of “Shark Tank,” which is based on the Japanese “Dragons’ Den” format created by Nippon Television Network Corporation. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television.
