ABC's SHIELD Should Be A Refreshing And Unique Show

At the TCA (Television Critics Association) ABC presentation of Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.l.E.L.D., a few great things came out of it.  That, and a subtle but loud shot at FOX, as you'll see.

First up is the new promotional poster for the TV series...

And then there were some great little nuggets from the creative team behind Agents of SHIELD...

They touched on the

  • Secrecy of the production,
  • How important each case viewers are presented each week,
  • Connections to the Marvel Cinematic Universe,
  • On staying true to the TV audience,

And one or two other nuggets.

I really liked what they had to say.

The production team of Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, Jeph Loeb and Jeffrey Bell, said that the secrecy behind the production is to create an urgency.  AN urgency to see the show live and try to avoid the 27/7 news cycle that is the web.

As it is, the web is something that tends to share, re-share and spoil details of episodes.  Reputable sites tend to put up spoiler warnings about things they write about.  Other sites, sometimes not so much.

Then the info gets out and starts to circulate and it becomes hard to avoid.

It's that cycle that can ruin a person's viewing experience.  That

ABC Trusts Whedon, Unlike Other Another Network We All Know

Joss Whedon touched on the trust and support they have from ABC in producing SHIELD and the vision Whedon and team are bringing with them to the cameras.

In what I call a subtle but very loud jab at FOX, it's been noted that he said,

"We are all really trying to make the same show. We are on the same page, which occasionally has not happened to me."

Ziing.

On the SHIELD TV Series And Marvel Movies:

Whedon made it perfectly clear that "Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.l.E.L.D." will not be an "Easter Egg farm" for the Marvel movie universe and that the show has to work for the TV audience.  That audience includes those who haven't seen the movies.

(Yes, not everyone piles into the theaters to catch the latest and greatest movies we all love.  Some folk can't afford hitting up the theater at a moment's notice.)

-

On J. August Richards:

Joss thought that his role in the premiere episode was great and that viewers should do the math on whether we might see him in subsequent episodes.

-

Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson, Brett Dalton plays Agent Grant Ward, Iain De Caestecker is Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge is cast as Agent Jemma Simmons, Ming-Na Wen plays Agent Melinda May and Chloe Bennet will be the mysterious computer hacker Skye.

"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will premiere on Tuesday, September 24.
