New Movies In Theaters This Week - 'Kick-Ass 2,' 'Paranoia' And...

-This week the new movies in theaters this Friday, Aug 16th, is a great collective of options. From teens kicking ass, to butlers being a part of history, to tech whiz double agents, we've got it all this weekend. I'm not sure who will come out on top at the end of the weekend as far as the box office numbers go.

Last weekend Elysium impressed me by coming out on top at the box office, with NO 3D screen offerings. That's nice to see. Go Neill Blomkamp!!! You made a great statement with that small win.

Enough of the past. Let's look to the future... specifically...

New Movies Opening This Week - August 16

Kick-Ass 2

'Kick-Ass 2' movie poster

Rated R 103 min

The costumed high-school hero Kick-Ass joins with a group of normal citizens who have been inspired to fight crime in costume. Meanwhile, the Red Mist plots an act of revenge that will affect everyone Kick-Ass knows.

Director: Jeff Wadlow (Never Back Down)
Stars: Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloƫ Grace Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Jim Carrey

Something to ponder... the original was produced by Plan B and distributed by Lionsgate. This sequel is produced and distributed by Universal with a new writer/director. This isn't going to be the same Kick Ass we first watched. We'll see how it goes.

(And then there's the Jim Carrey not supporting the film. As Carrey put it on Twitter:

"I did 'Kickass' a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence."

I wonder if he'll still accept the pay check?)
