'Agents of SHIELD' "Eye-Spy" Recap/Review

'Agents of SHIELD' "Eye-Spy" Recap/Review

-Agents of SHIELD had a great mysterious start, with what appeared to be some bad guys in red masks and a woman, who takes them all out, taking one of their briefcases.  The case she nabbed, had diamonds in it.  (A girl's best friend!)

Turned out she nabbed the right case with the payout, and ignored all the decoys.  Yep, it was a transit of a diamond shipment, and somehow, she figured out which one was the real one.

As SHIELD arrives on the scene, Coulson determines the thief to be someone he previously trained. He made a great statement as they perused the web for clues, saying people are surveilling themselves, with all the uploads to Facebook, Instagram and Flickr.  Pretty insightful piece of writing there.

Amador is the name of the ex-agent, and they do locate her.  Sort of.  Well, she locates them first.  (You'll get that when you see the episode)

But then they realize she's being controlled by a third party and the true hunt is on for that entity.

The problem is that she's controlled by a remote bionic kind of eye, but "they" have total control of her, so they can threaten her with death via the eyeball.  (It has a poison that can be released into her system.)

But as they find her handler, it seems that as he controlled Amador, someone else controlled him.  As soon as AC (Chloe's term for Agent Coulson) confronted him, his own eyeball injected a poison, killing her handler.

Our insidious fiends remain a mystery.  Why the diamonds?  And while SHIELD had hijacked the eyeball transmission, they found a small think tank, reviewing a possible alien math equation.

Mystery eyeball guys, diamonds, mystery alien math?  NOW, we have some underlying, developing seasonal mysteries!  Nice!

This episode felt more of a easy flowing, comfortable story versus the first few eps.  Characters were starting to flow together, conversations were less forced as they chatted amongst themselves.

And we saw more of Coulson's mind than we have previously.  The "human" heart of the man, as he reached out to help is ex-agent.

This is what Coulson fans want... more of Phil.

Fitz-Simmons is still feeling a bit odd, like the odd man out, and slightly annoying.  Useful, but annoying.

Skye is a still a little Skye... but not too overboard.  She's starting to become a bit more likable.  Even if she may be a threat to SHIELD.  She and Coulson are starting to mesh a bit too.

The team dynamics that showrunners Whedon, Tancharoen and Whedon are known for are starting to show.  That's what I've been waiting for.  That's what we've all been waiting for.

BUT...

This week, Lola's license plate still read "381 PCE."  Different from what it was in the premiere, when it read "681 PCE."

And they used Amador's insightful mind to yet again, remind us that something is afoul with Coulson, as she asks May what's different about Phil.

This was a worthy episode of Agents of SHIELD.

I can't wait for more.
