'The Walking Dead' Season 4 Premiere Review of "30 Days Without an Accident"

SPOILERS

The fourth season premiere of The Walking Dead introduces us to how prison life has developed since they've taken in the refugees from Woodbury.  (Around seven months has passed since events from the previous finale)  They have formalized a life within the walls of the prison.

The walking dead season premiere review

They have reading classes, a government of sorts, organized supply runs outside of the prison and Rick is still trying to deal with his demons.  And Daryl has fans in the group.

Beth has a boyfriend from amongst the refugees and Michonne apparently is out on a hunt, searching for The Governor.

And Daryl has seemingly taken on the mantle of a leader of sorts.

And they have, what seems to be an odd problem with walkers clustering around one section of fence of the prison. What the heck is that about?

And Glenn is relieved when Maggie tells him she's not pregnant.  It's a rough world to bring a child into, but when does one let fear control their decisions?

And speaking of kids, it seems that at reading time, Carol is teaching the kids how to stab and slash to protect themselves.  Something I'd think is critical to the survival of kids in this crazy world.

But not everything is how it appears though.

Rick meets a woman in the woods, but she is a desperate person who has gone over the edge.

Poor Beth... she's lost so much in previous seasons, and now her boyfriend during the supply run.  But later when Daryl tells her about him, she almost doesn't blink.  She just pulls a number off a safety message board in her cell... now it reads "0 days to last accident."

She reaches out and hugs Daryl.  They've both lost much, he's sick of losing people.  She's obviously numb to it.

Patrick, Daryl's big fan, dies in the bathroom, while spitting up into the communal shower water.  That can't be good, because we're not sure why he died.  Though I suspect that what ever killed him, killed the pig a bit earlier in the episode.

Of course Patrick dies and wakes up dead.  Inside the prison full of people, and who is to tell that what ever he had might be contagious since he was spitting up over the communal shower water.

Did what killed the pig kill him?  I presume there's a connection.

As you'll see in upcoming weeks, things get sour for our team.

Someone is baiting the walkers at the fence.  This is why they're clustering there.

And the upcoming season will be working off of points made in this season premiere, including the facet of the children in this ugly world.

The fourth season premiere of The Walking Dead was a satisfying start to the new season.  New group dynamics, new rules, new situations and obviously someone on the inside is a Governor supporter, if they're forcing the walkers. (Sorry, I'm looking too far forward into the season.)
