ANT-MAN Gets Its Hank Pym

Michael Douglas just joined the cast of Edgar Wright's Ant-Man movie as Dr. Hank Pym

I just caught a piece over on THR that Michael Douglas just joined the cast of Edgar Wright's Ant-Man movie as Dr. Hank Pym!

It's nice to see more and more big entertainment names stepping up to the plate to join in the cast of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and with the newly anointed Golden Globe winner (for his role as Liberace in HBO's Behind the Candelabra.).

So we have Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, and now Douglas as Dr.Pym, the man who invents the technology of Ant-Man.  Or at least that's how it's always been in comic cannon.  Does this then make Rudd the character of Scott Lang, who, in the comics, steals the suit for a while?

But things are different in the movie world from the comics.

Pym, in the comics, is the man behind Ultron.

But in the movies, Ultron is coming along to give The Avengers a good round of trouble in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, long before we meet Hank Pym.

I saw some unsubstantiated rumors that Ultron could be Jarvis gone wild or at least that the robotic bad guy, who will be played by James Spader, gets accidentally created by Tony Stark.

Meh, we'll see what Joss Whedon really has up his sleeves when the movie comes out.

For now, the news on the street is that Michael Douglas is playing Dr. Hank Pym in the upcoming Ant-Man movie, due out in July of 2015.
