BATMAN vs SUPERMAN Release Date Moved Back Almost a Year

BATMAN vs SUPERMAN Release Date Moved

Nothing says "we're having a hard time putting together a decent story/script together" than when the studio pushes back a release date of a highly anticipated movie.  OR...  that they don't want to face off against the competition!

Today Warner Bros announced that they've moved the release date of Batman vs. Superman (Man of Steel 2) back, from July 17, 2015 to May 6, 2016.  (This is why I usually only reference month/year in my news bits.  Ya just never know when a studio will change a date.)

This 10 month move reminds me of how WB has been putting together and revamping their Justice League script.  Oh wait, word on the street that they've backed off on that project.  And now they're pushing back Man of Steel 2.  Of course, like Justice League, we've been getting news on the characters they've been adding to this film, making Man of Steel 2 their new spin on being a Justice League movie kick off.

And every time the word Justice League is in a sentence, there's always an issue attached to that sentence.  At least to date so far.

As far Warner Bros. claims, this production delay of the Man of Steel sequel is to...

"allow the filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story..."

Seriously?

Or are they running away from the obvious competition?  May 2015 is when Avengers 2 (The Avengers: Age of Ultron) is coming out and it looks like Warner Bros doesn't even want to be in the same summer that The Avengers 2 is coming out.

And to think, WB gets to kick themselves for a very long time because way back 2007 they blew off a Joss Whedon script for a Wonder Woman movie.  dOh!  And now WB gets to kick around in their strategic business meetings and ponder exactly how they're going to create a competitive movie franchise to keep up with what Marvel and Whedon have spawned.

press release snippets (sans the other movie they're pushing)

"BURBANK, CA – January 17, 2014 – Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that the release of Zack Snyder’s untitled Superman/Batman film has been moved to May 6, 2016, allowing the filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story. The decision was made following the shift of the start of production to second quarter of this year.

In making the announcement, Fellman stated, “We are happy to take advantage of these coveted summer dates, which are perfect for two of our biggest tentpole releases. We share the fans’ excitement to see DC Comics’ most popular figures, Superman and Batman, together on the big screen for the first time, which will now be arriving in theatres in May 2016.

We know that there is already great anticipation building for the next Super Hero film from Zack Snyder, and we are equally eager to see what he has in store for Superman and Batman as they share the big screen for the first time ever.

Zack Snyder’s Superman/Batman film stars Henry Cavill, reprising his role as Superman/Clark Kent, and Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne. The film will also reunite “Man of Steel” stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane, and also stars Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince.

Snyder will direct the film from a screenplay written by David S. Goyer, from a story co-created by Goyer and Snyder. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan and Wesley Coller serving as executive producers.

The film is based on Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, Batman characters created by Bob Kane, and Wonder Woman created by William Moulton Marston, published by DC Entertainment
