New on DVD (OUTLANDER), New In Theaters This Week (THE MARTIAN)

This week's new DVD/BD sales include An American in Hollywood and the second volume of season one of Outlander. (Don't you love how they dig you for more money by splitting seasons up?)  Other shows coming out to own this week include iZombie, Bones, and Grimm. A quick list is farther down.

New movies coming out in theaters this week include the Matt Damon starrer, The Martian, directed by Ridley Scott. I know some folks that seem pretty disillusioned by Scott after that Prometheus bullshit and aren't even going to try and see this flick, but the premise looks enticing.

Rated PG-13 and running 141 minutes,

"During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive."

Director: Ridley Scott
Stars: Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara

After 17 reviews it has a score of 74. That's worth taking note of.

The Walk

PG, running 123 minutes,

"In 1974, high-wire artist Philippe Petit recruits a team of people to help him realize his dream: to walk the the immense void between the World Trade Center towers."

Director: Robert Zemeckis
Stars: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Charlotte Le Bon, Ben Kingsley, James Badge Dale

Critic scores, after 27 reviews, sit at 71.

Here's the list of new DVD and Blu-ray titles this week, with their IMDb scores. You can either hit up my DVD Store in the side-bar or fly on over to Amazon's new releases and such if you want to peruse more titles.

An American In Hollywood
imdb: 8.8

Outlander: Season One - Volume Two
imdb: 8.8

Fresh Off the Boat: Season 1
imdb: 8.1

iZombie: Season 1
imdb: 8.0
(Though I was not drawn to this show via the marketing a few folks I know said I should try iZombie, and sure enough I found it fun, quirky and it still had a solid story underneath it all. I think it's worth a try for a few episodes to see how you feel about it. I love the mystery of how the heck our heroine become a zombie.)

Bones Season 10
imdb: 7.9

Jane the Virgin: Season 1
imdb: 7.6

Grimm: Season 4
imdb: 7.5
(Grimm is Grimm and that spells the usual amount of fun that you've come to expect from the previous seasons being continued into this fourth season release.)

Spy
imdb: 7.2

Mom: Season 2
imdb: 7.0

Entourage
imdb: 6.9

Aloft
imdb: 6.6

Cop Car
imdb: 6.3

The Slap
imdb: 6.0
(I'm really surprised this got a 6 and I am wondering if it is not coming back, considering they are not marketing this as the first season of this poorly received series. It's an interesting premise but huh. Cinema Static's review of The Slap)

Zipper
imdb: 5.6

Unexpected
imdb: 5.5

Poltergeist
imdb: 5.0

Return to Sender
imdb: 5.0
