News Notes For ROAD HOUSE Remake and WESTWORLD TV Series

Because Hollywood has Writers Block:

Road House

Did you know that there will be a remake of Road House coming our way? And that according to sources, MGM is courting MMA wrestler Ronda Rousey to play the part that Patrick Swayze made famous?

Sorry, I said remake. They're calling it a "reimagining." What wa I thinking?

Westworld on HBO

I know or you probably know that HBO is cranking up their own series production / remake of Westworld. (Remember that Yul Bryner role where he was strutting around wearing all black?)

And it is being helmed by Person of Interest's Jonathan Nolan. (Christopher Nolan's brother.)

So I thought how cool, with Nolan helming the series, it probably won't go the way most HBO shows go, and that is the direction of the slut-fest of nudity that for whatever reason HBO loves putting in their content.

Well, guess what? J Nolan either does not have that much power or not enough draw, because word on the street is that HBO is having extras signing clauses or consent forms where they will be agreeing to simulate or participate in graphic sexual situations.

Check out the crazy stipulation, if this is true:

By accepting this Project assignment, you may be required to do any of the following: appear fully nude; wear a pubic hair patch; perform genital-to-genital touching; have your genitals painted; simulate oral sex with hand-to-genital touching; contort to form a table-like shape while being fully nude; pose on all fours while others who are fully nude ride on your back; ride on someone’s back while you are both fully nude; and other assorted acts the Project may require.

Outline SPOILERS Ahead, from the original movie...

Now if you saw the original 1973 Westworld movie, starring Yul Brynner, Josh Brolin, in this story from Michael Crichton, Westworld was part of a vacation get-away where robots simulated characters and humans can pay to have vacations in Westworld, Victorian World, and other worlds.

"Westworld ...where robot men and women are programmed to serve you for ...Romance ...Violence ...Anything "

In these worlds, the humans had no restrictions. They could get into shoot-outs with cowboys, where the human always wins. Or they could go over to the Victorian world and have their way with the babes. And in Victorian times, that was a pretty creative and suggestive set of scenes.

And now HBO seems as if they're running hard with the imagination part of the sexy world of this vacation world.

Except one day, someone has a shootout with a cowboy, but this time they get hurt. And the robot cowboy likes it. Because something goes horribley awry with the computer that is running the simulations, and the cat and mouse game goes from there.

And hence, I'm guessing HBO is pushing for those Victorian bondage scenes, wild west saloon tarts and what not.

The thing is that most times HBO and STARZ and the like crank out fantastic stories in some of their shows. They don't really need all the skin and grinding they portray. Now sure, if the show is middle-of-the-road kind of entertaining, who would not mind it getting spruced up a bit. But I'm betting, under J Nolan's hand, this series will have some legs to it.

The new series cast will include James Marsden, Evan Rachel Wood, Anthony Hopkins, Thandie Newton, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Ed Harris (As the rogue cowboy), Ben Barnes, Shannon Woodward, Clifton Collins Jr. and a few more notables.

Despite the obvious, I am looking forward to this series. The film is a classic. With Nolan helming it, I can't see it going horribly awry.
