An Animated Godzilla Film Is On The Horizon

It definitely looks like Godzilla is on the fast track of a popularity resurgence with his old fans, plus the new ones that he's pulling in with his various films.

We have Legendary's Godzilla film, where he had all of 11 minutes of screen time in it.  Or was it 17? Meh, it was still a great 'zilla film because of the focus on the human factor.

Now we have Toho throwing their hat back into the ring with their Godzilla: Resurgence movie and a subsequent American release date.

Now, as we understand it, there will also be a new animated feature coming out in 2017 and it will be written by Gen Urobuchi and directed by Kobun Shizuno. It will be animated by the same folks that animate Transformers Prime.

The concept art at the website for the film seems to indicate that some folks have found themselves on Monster Island. Or a different planet. I'm not sure. But on the bright side, being animated, the budget restrictions aren't going to impact the potential of monster action or the number of monsters that we see in this new series.

It's a good time to be a fan of the giant lizard, with all the new content coming out.

We've got the two latest films, a new King Kong film, which will be a precursor to a King Kong vs Godzilla film. Plus as these films develop within their own cinematic universe, we'll get to see the other Kaiju from the Godzilla universe.

It's definitely a good time. Check out their terse, but teasing film website:

But brace yourself, it's all in Japanese. I think.
