When Is Ben Affleck Leaving The BATMAN Role?

When Is Ben Affleck Leaving The BATMAN Role? (Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman)

News and Other Static

As we all know by now, Matt Reeves took over the director's chair for the upcoming solo Batman film. Then other bits were floating around about Ben Affleck's part in the film, considering he stepped down from directing the film, to the point that rumors were suggesting he was backing out altogether from the role.

I mean seriously, just before these bits came out, we had heard bits and pieces about Affleck being rushed to put out a product, then he put his foot down and said no, I'm doing it right, THEN we heard that Reeves was taking over.

To me that sounded like WB was pushing for a film that was going to be shoddy in quality, while Affleck was going to make one of his usual, decent movies.

But now there are new articles on the street, reminding us that it's possible that Affleck is leaving the DCEU after the Justice League movie, and now Affleck is on the rumor denial track.

Now he's saying in a USA Today piece that he is contemplating Reeves film and that he is finding a way to back out of the role gracefully.

As it stands, I am excited about Reeves coming on board replacing Affleck. He helmed the reboot of the Planet of the Apes trilogy, on top of some great films like Let Me In and Cloverfield. So yea, I'm excited. But since he rejected the script that Affleck and Geoff Johns put together, well, I would have loved to have seen what they came up with.

Not to be sullen, but when we usually hear bad news about an actor's part in a film or franchise, we usually start seeing the press about how they still love the franchise, etc., etc.. We saw it most blatantly when Dr. Who's Matt Smith let it slip he was leaving, then he said it was a misunderstood statement and then he was gone a season or so later.

My take on the entire matter is that even though I really liked Affleck as Batman and after having provided one of the best Batman vs thugs fight scene ever, in BvS, WB has f*cked it up again and he will be leaving. It's just a matter of time as to when.

I mean, WB was already chomping at the bit to reboot the character after Christopher Nolan's trilogy closed out... so there ya go, now if Affleck steps down, they can get another, new Batman, possibly a young, hungry actor who will put up with their meddling a lot longer than a seasoned, Hollywood power hitter would.

The above is just my take, but if you look at the DC films they've ridden shotgun on, and the film they let run on it's own course (Wonder Woman), you do the math.

In case you missed it, Universal's Dark Universe, lost key personnel and is on hold.

In case you're wondering, The Gifted, it takes place in a timeline that the X-Men don't exist in, which is why you are seeing alternate versions of a few mutants in the show.

-

Has anyone else deleted The Walking Dead from their DVR schedule yet? Or have you relegated it to letting it collect and watching it much later than within the seven days of airing?

Keep your eyes peeled, there's an e-mail scam going around saying your Netflix account is getting cancelled. Dump that email, open a brand new window and sign in from there, or call the service provider. Just saying.
