UNFRIENDED Is a Surprise Flick I Didn't See Coming

Unfriended (2014) is about a group of chat room teens that find themselves in a taunting battle of wits with an entity using the Skype account of their dead friend from one year ago.

Unfriended is directed by Levan Gabriadze (Lucky Trouble) and stars Heather Sossaman, Matthew Bohrer, Courtney Halverson, Shelley Hennig, Moses Storm, Will Peltz, Renee Olstead, Jacob Wysocki, Mickey River and Cal Barnes. That is most of the cast.

It's a Blumhouse production... the guys who pulled together Paranormal Activity, so that should give you an instant clue as to where they're going from there!

The film starts out with our seeing this girl who has been dead a year, killing herself, and then we find her friends goofing off online in a chat, a chat that gets interrupted by a strange entity that spends a bit of time messing with their heads, then making some insinuations, then starting to have weird things happening to the chatting teens.

Here's the thing: The movie got a 5.6/10 on IMDb but once things started to happen, I was totally sucked in and had a great time watching the film. Much like Paranormal Activity. Slow start, but riveting developments.

Everything is happening in a chat window with multiple windows as our characters try to have their chat, then try to figure out their predicament, as they engage each other in both group and private messages. But at the root of it all, is their tormentor.

The game is afoot when the entity asks who posted a certain video and it threatens them with a 'lights out' phrase... and then, turns off all their lights on them. Things go from there and to be honest, once it picks up, I found myself rooted where I was standing in front of my TV, waiting for the next event after event to happen. (No, I finally did sit down, but...)

When I came into the film, I did not realize they were being haunted by... something, so I was totally mystified by certain events that were taking place.

All in all, I really enjoyed watching this quandary of a murderous mystery call Unfriended. Also... what's interesting (because I was curious or bored,) most of the videos they show in the film are actually online!

If you like being mystified or just rooted in morbid curiosity, this is the flick for you!
