TV News: Renewed, Cancelled, Stuff: NCIS, BETTER CALL SAUL and More

Is AMC cancelling BETTER CALL SAUL???

Mike Myers is going to exec produce and star in his own new comedy series on Netflix where he plays multiple characters. Six episodes have been ordered.

HBO ordered a Hugh Laurie comedy called "Avenue 5."

WE TV is branching out with "Love After Lockup: Life After Lockup." The show will follow the stories from the first two seasons of the original...  "docuseries."

Nickelodeon has ordered a new animated "Star Trek" Series. It takes place in a different part of the Trek series that isn't so perfect, following some lawless teens who find themselves a battered, old Starfleet ship no one else wants and they use it to "search for adventure, meaning and salvation."

Hulu is adding two Marvel shows... considering Disney now holds majority stake ownership, can you be surprised. But I hope they aren't going to get too crazy and over-saturate the market with Marvel. There are a ton of titles under the comic brand, so maybe not. The two new shows include "Marvel's Ghost Rider" and "Marvel's Helstrom." But slated to show up on Hulu in 2020. Guess you can add that to the slate of Marvel Phase Four projects showing up on Disney Plus.

ABC ordered a "Black-ish" prequel or spin-off called "mix-ish"

Paramount Network ordered an "Ink Master" spin-Off.

Cancelled:

AMC's "Better Call Saul" has yet to ramp up for its fifth season, but AMC announced that the following sixth season will be its last.

Fox cancelled "Rel" and the Marvel series, "The Gifted"

Netflix canceled the vampire comedy "Santa Clarita Diet." There are a lot of passionately upset fans with this one. Some cancellations on Netflix come from cost vs investment vs return. Netflix uses a “cost-plus” production model, where they offer to pay a show's production costs upfront a show’s production plus  what they call a premium of 30%+ of those costs. This includes bonuses after each season that are getting progressively bigger. These payments aren't too big for the first two seasons, but when a show hits a third season they tend to escalate as the studio starts to pay off the backend numbers. These numbers can range from thousands to millions of dollars.

TBS drop-kicked "Wrecked."
