BLACK BAG Movie Review

BLACK BAG movie review

Black Bag (2025) stars Cate Blanchett, Michael Fassbender, Marisa Abela, Tom Burke, Naomie Harris, Regé-Jean Page & Pierce Brosnan.

"When his beloved wife, Kathryn, is suspected of betraying the nation, intelligence agent George Woodhouse faces the ultimate test -- loyalty to his marriage or his country."

Black Bag is a powerfully subtle spy thriller, as we follow spy spouses Blanchett and Fassbender, who, on the surface, appear to be the perfect couple/pair of spies, but as the story develops, we see, they're potentially on opposite sides of the coin. Allies, watching allies, carefully, potentially from within the bedroom.

The screenwriter, David Koepp, interviewed real spies to develop the story as the film explores situations inspired by their experiences, but the specific plot and characters are not based on any real-life events or individuals. Or, so they tell us!

Black Bag is directed by Steven Soderbergh, whose credited with "smart writing &  engaging performances."

And it was a good movie to kill some time with, and not to be morbid, but Pierce Brosnan was looking his age in this film and that was a bit distracting... it was odd, in that he looked like he was 90, despite actually being 72 years old.
