New in Theaters This Holiday Week: Minions, 'Lone Ranger' and...

Ah, a holiday week where movies open on a day other than Friday!  So be it!

Movies premiering in theaters this Wed, July 3rd 2013:

 •      Despicable Me 2

Cast:  Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Benjamin Bratt, Miranda Cosgrove, Russell Brand, Ken Jeong and Steve Coogan.

Directors: Chris Renaud, Pierre Coffin

Rated PG-13, with a 98-minute runtime.

 •      The Lone Ranger

Cast: Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, Helena Bonham Carter

Director: Gore Verbinski (Rango, Pirates of the Caribbean)

Rated PG-13, with a 149-minute runtime.

Yes, another origins movie...

"Native American warrior Tonto recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into a legend of justice."

It's finally here.  This movie had one of the toughest production start ups I've ever seen.  It was announced, the shelved, then announced, then stalled.  They hired Depp first (no surprise) then production was stymied due to costs...etc., etc..  Now we'll see if this was worth the fight!

But with almost 1,500 IMDb users chiming in, it has a 7/10 user rating.  Wow... that does not jive with some of the movie reviews I've seen.  That's for sure.
