The Sneakiness of Niantic With POKEMON-GO And Your Wallet

The Sneakiness of Niantic With POKEMON-GO

This is more an observation piece than a complaint. If it were a complaint, I'd quit playing altogether instead of having toned it down quite a bit like I have.

So here we are, a few months into this latest video game craze of Pokemon-Go. Niantic is still making approximately a $million a day off the game and they're adding new and "better" ways to make more money for themselves.

They've restricted the game to a very very slow walking speed for being able to do certain things, so this eliminates seriously stupid people and most adults with a life.

This leaves the kids with allowances and nowhere to spend them. And to be fair, I do recognize that this is primarily a pay-to-win game.

So what do we have now-a-days?

They've recently added new "baby" Pokemon to the cadre of critters, but you have to hatch them, if you get an egg with one of them in it. That means we need more incubators and how are you gong to level them up if they don't occur in the wild? $

Having new Pokemon in the egg wild is great, but it seems not many folks are hatching these new Pokemom. Keep chasing eggs and hatching things. That needs more incubators. Of course Niantic is giving out incubators for the holiday season. Then what? $$

In recent weeks, PokeStops are dispensing fewer items overall. But in addition, Niantic has made it so more Pokemon are spawning in the wild. Which in turn, has players burning through their Pokeballs faster. $$$

The Semi-Daily Static News: Inhumans, Legion, Reign, Star Trek and...

If you did not like the fifth Jason Bourne film (I didn't), then they might take a swing at getting it right again, as rumors are saying that after a brief hiatus, there's a good chance of a sixth film.

- - -

According to some, the WWE wrestler Cody Rhodes is trying to land the role of Silent Inhuman, King Black Bolt.

If you were waiting for How To Train Your Dragon 3, stay patient. For some reason its release date has been moved back a year, to Mar 2019.  That can't bode well for it, can it?

New show Legion, based on Marvel Comics characters (mutants) will premiere on FX on Wednesday, Feb. 8.

HBO's The Leftovers will be returning  for its third and final season in April of 2017.

The second trailer for John Wick Chapter 2, the gun-porn action flick movie, came out this week.

John Wick Ch 2 stars Keanu Reeves (reprising his role) Common, Riccardo Scamarcio, Laurence Fishburne, Ruby Rose, Bridget Moynahan, Lance Reddick, Franco Nero, with John Leguizamo, and Ian McShane.

"In this next chapter following the 2014 hit, legendary hitman John Wick [Keanu Reeves] is forced back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers."

I think Reeves found his post-Matrix calling in this franchise.

The film is due out Feb 10, 2017.

Sequel Titles:

The upcoming Godzilla sequel film will be called Godzilla: King of Monsters The Pacific Rim sequel will be called Pacific Rim: Uprising. Though I find it mildly disheartening that they're dredging up an old title for a new film. But hey, now you know!

But wait, there's more.

Keep in mind that Godzilla is part of a larger picture, because down the road the big lizard will be fighting King Kong. (Hmm, I guess that's a bit of a spoiler. Sorry)

Also, it seems that in Pacific Rim, Charlie Hunnam won't be reprising his role, because of some scheduling politics and what not.

I'm glad to see these two sequels moving forward. And I'm really happy about Pacific Rim's sequel, considering that after a $190M budget, they pulled in $411M at the box office.

Some are saying Godzilla did better at the box office with a smaller budget, where they dropped $160M and netted $529M. But Pacific Rim, I think, had more CGI to work on than Godzilla, considering 'Zilla might have had at most, 11 minutes on-screen in his own movie!  Yep...

Netflix announced that they are renewing Luke Cage for a second season.

If you didn't catch it yet, you're in for a treat and some great twists and surprises as to who you think is doing what, when and the like. For example, just when you think you know who the bad guy is...

BLADE RUNNER 2049 First Teaser Trailer

Check it out, the first teaser trailer for Blade Runner 2049 is out.

The film stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, with Dave Bautista and Jared Leto.

"Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years."

Now hopefully Ridley Scott hasn't missed the mark on this franchise continuation, like some feel he did with the new Alien film.

SURVIVOR's Adam And His Fight To Defeat Cancer (EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS)

During the Survivor season finale, we watched Adam battle throughout the season, all for his mother.

Adam's mother had stage 4 lung cancer and he was fighting for her, since he and his entire family are huge Survivor fans. Things worked out so he could come on the show, despite the circumstances with his mother.

Tonight during the season finale of Survivor, we learned that Adam's mother died one hour after he got home, but he knew that she got to watch him kick some butt.

It's a real heart-ripping scenario to hear.  But Adam is committed to bringing awareness to cancer and the fight against it.

And we know that he's aligned with SU2C to raise funds for the fight against lung cancer.

The link below is where we can go to send money,

And here's my argument for why you and I should both contribute to this, or any other cause to fight cancer:

It takes only $1.

MORE Zombies in The Walking Dead And Here's Why!

So this season of The Walking Dead has produced one of the most irritating and horrible crime bosses to walk the Earth in the form of Negan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

You have to hand it to Morgan. I've seen him play good guys, bad guys and assholes, and he's done all of them pretty convincingly. And this newest version of a "bad asshole guy" is one of his best character portrayals yet!

Negan has even depressed the viewers to the point of the ratings for The Walking Dead have been dropping steadily this season. I mean let's face it, it's dejecting to see this prick of a bully show up and be the massive ass that he is.

Ug. And at least true to word, he kills people when he gets pissed off, unlike past characters who prove they're nasty, but then never follow through again.

In this season, Negan and The Saviors are thinning the casting herd!

But enough about Negan... I did mention that there were going to be MORE zombies in the show when it returns from its winter break, didn't I? And to be honest, Negan does have something to do with it.

- - - THERE ARE SPOILERS if you haven't seen the mid-season finale yet...  and to be honest, you should duck out now if you haven't seen it... - - -

Syfy Shows, Legends, Legion, Suicide Squad Spinoffs, MAYANS news!

Pieces of news about Dark Matter, Killjoys, Legends of Tomorrow, Legion, Suicide Squad and spinoffs, and SOA's spinoff, THE MAYANS!!!

Dark Matter returns to Syfy! Well, at least I think it will, considering that production has commenced on the third season.

Humans returns for its second season on AMC on Monday, Feb 13th. And for a show about robots, it's pretty good. At least the first season was.

Killing Fields returns to Discovery with a new season on January 3rd.

Killjoys:  Since I mentioned Dark Matter, I might as well touch on Killjoys, and yes, it's been renewed too!

Legends of Tomorrow: In case you are wondering, the second half of this season will be dealing with the return of Rip Hunter.

Fast & Furious 8 - Official First Crazy Trailer

Fast & Furious 8 - Official First Crazy Trailer

The Fast & Furious franchise has admittedly, been quite the meld of muscle cars, speedsters and some plain, fun serious liberties taken with the laws of physics. It's like a real-world version of what M.A.S.K. used to be, as a cartoon. (BTW, that's coming back soon!)

So when you watch F&F, you know it's nothing but some serious popcorn fun. And once you know what you're in for, well, then the fun is there to be had.

With that said, check out the first trailer for the next Fast & Furious film, (#8), being called The Fate of the Furious, check out this press release and new movie trailer, and wow, check out that cast this time around!

Alan Tudyk fans... keep your eyes... or maybe your ears pealed for Alan in the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, because in case you didn't know this, he's playing/voising the role of K-2SO. (He played the role too, with motion capture suits and what not.)

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency has been renewed for a second season by BBC America.

Rumors out there are suggesting the Peter Capaldi and his newest, upcoming companion, Pearl Mackie, will be leaving Doctor Who by the end of 2017. All in an effort to reinvigorate merchandise sales of the series, by hiring new, younger stars. So the rumors say.

Did you know that Morena Baccarin is part of a the cast of a new legal drama at NBC? If it gets the nod to go to series, it seems that Morena's role of Dr. Leslie Thompkins in Gotham is going to get reduced to a recurring guest role instead of a series regular. Huh.

HGTV's FLIP OR FLOP Couple Splitting Up

This is crazy, but after watching HGTV's Flip or Flop for many seasons, who could have seen this coming, the split up of the stars behind the show?

If you read the glorifying, traffic snagging headlines out there, you've seen the words police, domestic dispute, split and what not.

It seems that some months back the cops were called out to their place, but no charges were filed and if you read some of the statements released by Tarek and Christina El Moussa, it seemed to have been overkill.

Or so they say.  I'm still trying to understand the statement that the police were called out of "an abundance of caution."

But despite that, they've also been having issues over the last few years, with Tarek's thyroid cancer and Christina having a very tough time getting pregnant, well, things may have just added up over time.

As it seems to stand now, they are separated and evaluating their lives, while HGTV says that their show, already in progress through the season, will continue to air.

TRANSFORMERS And Michael Bay's Haters

TRANSFORMERS And Michael Bay's Haters

The Transformers first movie trailer came out for the next upcoming alien robot film, titled Transformers The Last Knight. It's only been out a few days and has already snagged up over 100 million views.

Which is no surprise, considering how many fans there are of the franchise. This is the fifth film of the franchise with Michael Bay at the helm.

And with the release of this trailer, comes the critics and the fans.

The fans just want to be kids again and love the franchise for WHAT IT IS... giant alien robots, realized in grand fashion, on the screen, in 3D, as they watch their toys beat the living shit out of each other. It's a popcorn fun film and they manage to stuff a bit of a story in there to boot.

But the all-so-knowing critics are at it again... some just to make themselves feel superior and others, to pretend they know more than Hasbro, Michael Bay and Paramount, venting their "expertise" about what's wrong with the trailer and the franchise.

One piece out there was begging Michael Bay to stop making these films.

Though to be honest, I love the honesty in this tweet:

"Every Transformers trailer is sick and every movie sucks except the first one. That said, I'm totally seeing the new one in theaters."

You see, it's movies exactly like this that prompted me to create a secondary movie rating system. One where it does not compete with actual, great dramatic movies, but rather, pits movies like this against the rest of the fantasy action fest genre of films.

POKEMON GO Joins Sprint & Starbucks And Adds Gen 2 Monsters

POKEMON GO Joins Sprint & Starbucks And Adds Gen 2 Monsters

December was looking to be a big month for Pokemon Go as they try to retain the dwindling number of users and possibly bait back those who have become bored and tired of the games that Niantic is playing with their user base.

First up, the fun and new things that are coming in December.

In December Pokemon Go is starting new business associations with Sprint and Starbucks!

December 7th, Sprint will have 10,500 store locations become PokeStops and Gyms. They'll even have charging stations in some Sprint stores if you are tired of burning through 1% of battery per minute of game time!

December 8th, the company-operated locations of Starbucks will also become PokeStops and Gyms. In conjunction with this new partnership, they'll be offering a PokemonGO themed frappuccino.

December 12th, an announcement from Niantic will be forthcoming about "more Pokemon" coming to the game.  Many suspect, after delving into the game code, that these new Pokemon will be Gen 2 monsters.  We'll see. (Plus I can't wait to see how that drains our pokeball inventory!)

POKEMON GO: Users Leaving, Low PokeBall Inventory, Capture Strategies For Saving Money

With all the good stuff coming out for the user-base one must wonder how much of that user-base is left!

As it stands, back in August it was reported that more than 10 million users bailed on the game, where in July, they had 45m daily users and in August, it was down to 30M. Which is still a healthy chunk of a database of users, but that headline of 10 million can be an eye-catcher!

Then later numbers say the game lost 79% of it's user base after a few months.Yet by the beginning of November, the game generated over $600M in revenue!

But with close to 80% of their players being between the ages of 18 and 34, well, there's a lot of loose change to be had there. Considering that it's said that it still makes $2M a day off its users.

But where does that leave the casual player?

In limbo, to some degree.

UPDATE: Just an hour after posting, I saw an updated set of numbers saying that the user base has dropped to 4% of the peak user base and that Niantic is making roughly $1M a day. (Nice to see updated numbers, and obviously Niantic is doing well!)

Of late, I'm not sure if you've noticed or not, but when they released Ditto into the wild, the catch phrase was to catch everything in sight to find a ditto. And of course doing that would deplete your PokeBall supply pretty fast. Even as we learned that Ditto was hiding out as Gobat, Pidgey or Rattata's and the like.

Cinema Static TV News: CBS, Sex, Santa Clarita, X-Men, Syfy, Z NATION

Hunted, a competition series on CBS where normal people attempt to evade capture by investigative professionals, will premiere on January 22nd, right after the AFC Championship game! The show sounds fun. I want in!!!

The Food Network has plans to reboot Iron Chef America into Iron Chef Gauntlet.

Masters of Sex!  OK, not that I have your attention... Showtime cancelled the show. The last episode of the fourth season that aired in early November was its last...  gasp, if you may!

CBS has not ordered any more episodes of The Odd Couple. it's in its third season, but the fact that they've not ordered any more eps beyond the first 13 this year could be a harbinger of warning!

Santa Clarita Diet, starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant, will premiere on Netflix on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017

Tuesday, December 6, 2016

The latest Transformers film, Transformers: The Last Knight, finally got its first trailer out the other day, and as usual, its looking pretty fun. I said FUN.

Directed by the guy who wasn't coming back to this franchise in the last three films, Michael Bay, the cast includes the cast inlcudes Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, Isabella Moner, Stanley Tucci, & John Turturro.

And in this latest flick, it looks like Optimus Prime gets possessed or something. Take note in one scene where his eyes flash purple. That can't be good. I mean when my eyes flash purple, it's not good!

THE MUMMY Remake Movie Trailer, With Tom Cruise

Another Mummy movie is coming to the screen and this time, it looks a bit more serious than those other renditions with Brandon Fraser in them. That's not a complaint, but in this era, more things are getting grittier. If that's a word.

The Mummy is directed by Alex Kurtzman and comes to theaters in June of 2017.

The cast includes, as you can see, Tom Cruise, plus Annabelle Wallis  (Peaky Blinders), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), Courtney B. Vance (American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson) and Russell Crowe (Gladiator).

And yes, The Mummy looks kind of hot. And another point...  as one friend put it... "Oh goody, more of Tom Cruise running around!"  LOL... but to be honest, does this guy ever age!!!???

{  }

It's important to know that this film is from Universal because in case you don't remember, they're doing their own cinematic universe, and that universe is called the Universal Monsterverse. This is the first, to be followed, if they do follow through with this, by The Wolfman, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein and Van Helsing.

Snyder Truly Screwed Up The BATMAN V SUPERMAN Opportunity

Snyder Truly Screwed Up The BATMAN V SUPERMAN Opportunity

HBO finally premiered Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice and now the rest of the world who did not see it in theaters finally got to see it, and it's interesting to see the commentary coming out of the fans. And to quote a peer, "What a piece of crap."

The big WB/DC movie event this year was going to be Batman V Superman (BvS). So many fans were looking forward to this film. But somehow WB and directory/producer Zack Snyder took what seemed like a simple premise and convoluted it into a film that critics hated.

Cinema Static's review of BvS

When critics hate a film, that's a precursor to the movie-goers backing away from the film and setting its fate on an uncertain and more than likely, doomed path.

But what happened?

Personally, I did not mind the film but I knew where most of the different story pieces were coming from.

Snyder took three different stories from the archives of DC, jammed them into one film where there was not enough time to expound decently on all three plots. Instead, he chose to haphazardly introduce various themes into the opening act, confusing the living crap out of the general movie fan and film critic.

For the hard-core comic fan, we recognized the various aspects of the opening act and many of those fans enjoyed the film. But the fragmented, disjointed intro pieces were just too much for the outsider or general fan who looked to go enjoy a movie.

Snyder took so many aspects of decent stories and cheapened them to make his film.

He took the classic alternate realty tale of Batman V Superman, where vigilantes were outlawed, Superman was a government agent, and Bruce Wayne came out of retirement to put some beat down on bad guys who were becoming a controlling voice in a society.

The CWs INVASION Crossover Event - What A Disappointment

UPDATED after seeing the entire four-episode crossover series:

So far this week we've seen three of the four episodes of the big winter crossover of The CW's DC TV series. But to be honest, it's been a fairly hollow event, if this is what they call an event.

I don't get it when they crossover characters in different TV shows. Back when The Flash visited Supergirl when it was back on CBS, both characters were portrayed as overly giddy, or more chipper than their normal portrayals.

And I'm seeing this same, completely out of place humor in this crossover event. I mean, look, "it's aliens here to kill us all. How cool is that?" Seriously? This ill-placed humor has made this a disappointing TV event on The CW. And this crap humor continued right on into the first third of the final episode of this crossover event.

The first episode on Monday, Supergirl, had nothing to do with the Invasion story line. It was an empty episode, so to speak, until Barry and Cisco showed up in the last minute of the episode.

The Invasion story really started in The Flash, where a lot of development and action took place there.

SURVIVOR: Adam Klein's Mother Did Pass Away From Cancer

Tonight's episode of Survivor saw the family members visiting the Survivors. In the family reunion we Watched Adam greet his brother and they talked about Adam's mother, who, at the time of filming, had stage four lung cancer.

The insidious beast of cancer strikes again, because two days after Survivor filmed its final tribal council, his mother, Susie passed away.

I'm so sorry Adam.

Cancer is an insidious monster of a disease, that at the bottom of my heart, I believe, humanity can beat if we focused on it.

But we don't. Yet there are such simple things we can do to help fight the fight.

All it can take is $1.  I know that sometimes we don't always feel like we have enough to help donate to the fight. But even a "mere dollar" can help.

You see, for example, if 6 million people who tuned in to watch Survivor tonight, all decided to pick up the phone/laptop and send a dollar to a a charity for cancer. That would be a quick $6 million for the battle.

That's a lot of money.

POKEMON GO Ditto Rage: Have You Caught It?

POKEMON GO Ditto Rage: Have You Caught It?

Since Thanksgiving, Ditto has been out in the wild in Pokemon GO. But the trick is that it is hiding itself to look like other Pokemon in the wild. So have you caught the bug to chase down EVERY SINGLE Pokemon near you? And if you have, have you caught Ditto yet?

I haven't. But I'm up to 125,000 in stardust and a shit load of eggs! LOL.

It's a bit fun to have this Ditto beast hanging over our heads but to be honest, it can also be a way to force game players to burn through their poke balls and need to buy more. Especially if they're out in the barely supported rural regions.

But how can you find a Ditto?

Well, the Ditto hides out trying to look like something else. In one Facebook page post that has garnered over 3.6K comments, the more common Pokemon forms that Ditto seems to be taking are Rattatas, Pidgeys, Zubats and out of place Magikarps.

One person said they were suspicious of a moment when a Paras and Parasect showed up at the same time and they tackled the Paras.

And generally speaking, I'm not sure CP is a good indicator it's a Ditto. Some folks say they've caught them off of ~300CP Pidgeys or Rattatas, but others have seemingly indicated that they've caught a 90 CP Pidgey and it evolved into a 300CP Ditto.

Christmas Movie Marathon:

Call the Midwife was renewed for a third season by BBC.

HULU has bought the exclusive rights to The Powerpuff Girls. Those rights included all of the past episodes plus it includes the new series that came out this year. So if you're wondering where the series went, there it went, off to Hulu.

REMINDER: ABC's Quantico is moving to Monday in January.

I'm not sure what this means, but The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC had its highest ratings this year, in 13 years.

On top of that, The National Dog Show Presented by Purina had some of its best ratings in 14 years.  And yay for a dog with natural ears and tail for winning, and not some mutated, butchered version of dog!

But what this means is confounding.  Does it mean more people stayed in rather than go out to pricey movies? (IMAX screenings can cost $20 at ticket. Frack that!)  Or were fewer people tuning into Football and chose paraded and pets instead?

Either way, it's all good.
