'The Walking Dead' Series TV News

The Walking Dead renewed

So much has happened this week, with what looks like the death of Glenn, Rick getting his arm/hand infected with walker goo and nothing but bad things happening all around, fans have been put through some serious stress.  So some good news is needed right about now.

AMC has announced that they have renewed The Walking Dead for a seventh season, and along with TWD, AMC is also renewing The Talking Dead.  Ya can't have TWD without the TTD too!

Boo ya!

With The Walking Dead breaking cable TV ratings every season, it is no surprise, but it's nice to have a network let us know.

News for STAR WARS The Force Awakens; ASH vs EVIL DEAD; Captain America Civil War; CASTLE; GOTHAM; POWER RANGERS news

Ash vs. Evil Dead: The funny news of the week is that Starz "renewed" their new Ash vs Evil Dead series starring Bruce Campbell, before season one has even premiered.

Captain America Civil War: Rumors suggest we'll get our first trailer for this movie some time in December and supposedly will be attached to Star Wars The Force Awakens. That's a duh.

Castle producers, in an interview made it clear they are not killing off one of their co-leads. Duh.

Comic Book Store Locator: Have you ever wanted to find a comic book sotre near you but weren't sure where they are? Now you can know it all. Or at least where comic book stores are:
It seems to work OK for me.

Gotham: Nathan Darrow has been cast as Victor Fries, aka Mr. Freeze.

Grandfathered got a full season order from FOX.

Monopoly Board Game Origins Movie: There's a film being developed about the origins of Monopoly. No, it won't be a board game movie like Battleship was, but rather, it will be like the Facebook movie, The SOcial Network, and how nasty and dark that origin film was. Apparently Monopoly has its own dark past of creation.

War Of The Worlds

That fateful and famous night when the War of the Worlds radio program scared upwards to a million radio listeners can be called a fantastic or disappointing event in the annals of human history.

It was part of the American radio drama anthology series from The Mercury Theatre and aired as part of some Halloween programming on Sunday, October 30, 1938 and aired over the Columbia Broadcasting System radio network.

The trick to how this radio drama grabbed the fears of its listeners was multi-fold.

-It was presented as a series or news report broadcasts. To make sure no one was fooled, they made announcements on the air that this was fake.  But many listeners were dial spinning looking for something to listen to, so they missed the opening of the broadcast alerting the listener to the fictional state of the following radio transmission.

-The broadcast also ran commercial free and the production was intended to seem realistic because the producers did not think it would pan out as a standard sounding radio play. (Well, they nailed that issue on the head!!!)

'Ride With Norman Reedus' on AMC

Over on The Walking Dead one of the more surprise popular characters turned out to be Daryl Dixon, played by Nornam Reedus. Everyone loves the rough and tough biker dude. (I'm not discounting the recently distressed Glenn...)

In fact he's so popular among TWD crew that he's getting some great treatment from AMC, while they put together a non-fiction series, initially called Ride with Norman Reedus. It makes sense considering Norman is an avid rider.

The series will premiere in 2016, consist of six episodes, each one hour long, and he will be riding his bike into a different city in each episode, exploring what they're describing as the motorcycle culture on the road to that city.

In the subsequent text of the press release, it's obvious this won't be a fictional actioner but instead, they'll "celebrate some of the best and brightest collectors, mechanics and motorcycle craftsmen around the country."

And this does not mean that Daryl is being killed off in The Walking Dead. He's filming this series during his break from filming TWD. Many actors do double time like this. Besides, if they were killing him off, they would not be so public in advertising that he's on a new show.

Certain Costumes & Fake Weapons Prohibited from 'Star Wars The Force Awakens' Screenings

Costumes & Fake Weapons Prohibited from 'Star Wars'

Word on the street is that there will be some restrictions in-place when you go to see Star Wars The Force Awakens in theaters, which opens on December 18th.

With how there are so many nut cases screwing it up for everyone out there, theaters are looking to prohibit face masks and simulated weapons in their theaters, if you are inclined to go to premieres in cosplay mode.

Right now Cinemark and AMC theaters are the chains who will have issues with Darth Vader and other full-helmeted cosplayers.

And it makes sense. Sadly.

But be aware....

'Heroes Reborn,' Mid-Season Review: So So, So Far

After the series premiere of Heroes Reborn I had hope for a new and revitalized franchise. And to be fair, if you like the genre of mutants and super heroes fighting the good fight against the odds, then you probably don't mind this new rendition of the series.

But if you are of a neutral or critical mind, you might have issues with this franchise sequel.

Let's talk about Miko Otomo (Kiki Sukezane), the digital Samurai. I don't know who is choreographing her fight scenes but I think they hired some middle-school kid.

Then there's Tommy Clark (Robbie Kay), the boy who can teleport. And does NOT have a brain. He continually does the stupidest things making the stupidest decisions in the face of always getting in trouble... and doing so.  (I know it's an entertainment trope, but the tropes are getting seriously over-used in this show.)

Every now and then I see the Rocky Horror Picture Show on TV on some capacity, and when I do, it brings back memories and questions. The memories are great and the questions, are more observations, but still.

I remember the first time I saw The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I was in high school and some friends of mine dragged my ass with them to the midnight showing of this flick.  It was around 1980 and the movie came out in 1975, but it had already achieved its cult status to the degree of having weekly midnight screenings at a multitude of theaters.

But my first reaction to this movie that I could not hear because everyone was yelling and screaming through, was, WTF? But it's not about seeing it as it is more about participating in the fun of yelling at the screen.

And yet if you look over the cast list of this fantastic literary film piece, it is quite interesting.

'Supergirl' Series Premiere TV Ratings Bust Out

'Supergirl' Series Premiere TV Ratings

Well, despite the presentation of the girly-girl super-powered hero, folks tuned in to the series premiere of 'Supergirl' in droves.

The premiere pulled in 14 million viewers, and netted a 3.2 rating in the all-important money spending demographic of 'adults 18-49.'

To compare, NBC's 'Blindspot' had netted a 3.1 rating.

'Supergirl' ratings put it as the best rated series this season, period.

Now industry and entertainment resources might deliver freak-out reports in the following weeks about the ratings dropping.  The fact that ratings drop is not abnormal for any show or any season premiere. It's just a matter of how much. Most of the time folks will tune in for premieres and finales and fade out for the commitment in the middle of a season. There's lots to do in life.

NIELSEN TV Ratings Explained or Defined

NIELSEN TV Ratings Explained or Defined

All the time various sources quote TV ratings numbers and sometimes those numbers don't make any clear sense. I grasp the idea of how many million viewers tuned in. That, I get and can grasp my mind around. But these odd, single digit 'ratings' make zero sense up front. So...

Nielsen TV ratings explained, quickly:

When you see a number for TV ratings like a 4/15 rating, or possibly just a 4, that 4 means the number of estimated number of households that tuned in to a show. The second number is the number or percentage of all Nielsen families that were estimated to be watching a show.

Of course a rating is nothing to advertisers unless they can focus on the folks who have the most money to spend on their products.

That demographic is the 'adult 18-49' age range. Apparently the rest of us don't spend the right amount of money to be important to most advertisers.

Technically, here are some technical breakdowns that advertisers look at:

'Supergirl' Series Premiere

I already had issues with Kara's ship getting stuck in the phantom zone, but whatever works.

We learn how she got to Earth and why. We learn how she found her adoptive family and then jump to her adult life. We see how second-rate she is in her job because she is only good enough to be her 'fetch' person.

She hid her powers from the world to fit in, but then her own newspaper boss, Cat Grant, complains that her town does not have its own superhero. So she instantly goes out that night and saves a crashing plane with her adoptive sister on it.

Her boss is portrayed as a raging bitch, played by Calista Flockhart.

Halloween (2015) Fun For TV

Halloween Television Programming

So say you want to stay indoors and scare the crap out yourself instead of going to a local fright house or amusement park. Cool. If that's the case, I started looking around for things to eat your popcorn to while sitting on your couch with the lights down low and the curtains drawn!

First, don't forget Syfy Channel's 31 Days of Halloween, TCM's Horror Fest, AMC's classically good Fear Fest, FX will also be having a Twilight Saga marathon Oct 30-31, along with Cinemax, IFC holding their own fearful programming on the 31st.

THE WALKING DEAD 'Thank You' And Who Is Really Dead (A Short and Sweet Post)

THE WALKING DEAD 'Thank You' And Who Is Really Dead

If you saw this latest episode of The Walking Dead, you are having a fit, just like many people are. And if you have yet to see the episode, drop everything you are doing and go watch it. Call in sick, put off that vacation by just an hour and go watch it and you will understand what I mean.

From this point forward, there WILL BE HUGE SPOILERS

- - -

Have you noticed yet that the first three episodes of season six have taken place in almost the same time frame, so we've passed three weeks of TV in one or two days of story? And we don't care because it's pretty riveting.

I have to say, this episode takes place at the same time that the Wolves attacked the town, so this parallel action is pretty fun to watch, since you know what's happening just on the other side of the "tree line," yet so much has happened in this last episode that even I am writing about it.

This plan of Rick's to relocate the thousands of walkers they found has been unraveling from the moment the semi-truck fell off that ledge in that gravel pit. Sure, they were rushed, but one thing after the other kept going wrong.

JESSICA JONES Is Marvel's Answer To A Dark Superhero (First Official Trailer)

JESSICA JONES Netflix Trailer Clip Just Made Me Interested In the Series...

OK, OK, yes, the trailer clip, whose purpose is to sway people as a marketing tool, just worked on me.

Up until now, I have never seen anything about this Marvel character, Jessica Jones. So I have not gone out of my way to catch any of the promotional material. But after just watching this, I am suddenly very intrigued by her character and the evil she will be up against in her first season. And this evil seems to be an insidious kind of evil you just can't punch the lights out of!

"After a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a private detective in Hell's Kitchen. It's time the world knew her name..."

Marvel's Jessica Jones premieres on Netflix on November 20 "

DISNEY Is STAR WARSing The Crap Out of The World

DISNEY Is STAR WARSing The Crap Out of The Stores of the World

With Disney having bought out some of the biggest film franchises in recent memory, Marvel and Lucasfilm, I noticed the changes with the franchises immediately, because if it's one thing that Disney knows, it is how to propagate their content!

One of the changes I saw was that the number of Marvel movie trailers nearly doubled when Disney took over. And they became more spoiler-filled.

But as time goes on you can see that Disney is doing what it knows best and it knows what works in the world of marketing. It is a shrewd and focused marketing mind that Disney practices. That is how it has become such a powerhouse. By pitching, selling and convincing all these years, the product that people love to love. Or maybe, are told to love! I mean, that is what marketing is all about and why studios believe it is worth it to spend on average, $200M per movie, on marketing.

Syfy's KRYPTON Takes Place 200 Years Before Superman

First up is that Syfy will be possibly airing or at least considering a TV series, a prequel of sorts called Krypton. Which is all good and cool. We'll get to see how things were on the planet before the people on it blew it up.

But the latest news on the street, if correct, is saying that the series is going to take place 200 years prior to events in the movie Man of Steel. Which is akin to saying that we're going to watch a TV show about some strange planet in a galaxy far, far away, and there will be no one we care about in it.

According to creator David Goyer (Constantine, Man of Steel, The Dark Knight films, Flashforward, Blade film franchise) he was excited about the culture that was teased in Man of Steel and will be developing this historical look at the home-world of Kal-El.

At the moment Syfy has not started casting nor shooting a pilot episode. And to be honest, I'm not sure I care. And I'm thinking as Goyer speaks and people react, he may have just nailed the coffin shut on this one.

Why, with my busy schedule, would I want to watch something that has almost nothing to do with Kal-El, except that we might be watching his grandfather or great-grandfather living their doomed lives on the planet.

Just wondering, that's all.

Back to the Future: The Day And An Awesome Honest Trailers Work-Over

Apparently some movie theaters screened the film Back to the Future on October 21, 2015 and surprisingly, it netted some $1.6M domestically and almost $5M worldwide!

Wow, talk about some free money for little or not investment on the distributor's part!

But better yet, Screen Junkies Honest Trailers division took a swing at the trilogy and they managed to nail it pretty good.

Have fun and don't laugh out (too) loud at work!

Star Wars Fan Trailers Rock MORE Than The Originals From Disney

Star Wars Fan Trailers Rock

OK, so in a sense, the teaser clips and trailers from Disney for the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens film are pretty awesome. There is a ton of hope and expectation for these new films now that Lucas has been bought out and put aside. (I mean that with all the respect possible.)

BUT yesterday someone mashed up some of the trailers and made a pretty cool Master Mash Up of a few of the videos. Then someone went a step further and did it even better, including teaser footage that the first one did not include.

But the true brilliance of these projects is how these editors took the content and instead of just streaming them in the order they showed, they've put them in a sort of story-form that makes so much sense.

Is STAR WARS An Anti-White Film?

Let me get this straight: First there are vocal disgruntled people who say that movies have been too white-washed. And looking back through the era, well, it's hard to deny actually.

But then there's the other side of the coin where if a black person is cast in the role that had been associated with predominately white characters, fans get in an uproar.

Case in point are two Marvel movies that come right to mind where Col Fury of SHIELD or the role of Heimdall in Thor were cast to black talent. Wow, were some people upset about that apple cart getting turned over.

(BTW: When you throw a rant about something like this, to me, it almost seems like you are outing yourself and the white sheets that hang in your closet.)

But now there's a new voice in the choir of angry movie fans.

I'm sure you may have heard about it because it is making the rounds in the media.

STAR WARS The Force Awakens Will Be A Smash Hit

STAR WARS The Force Awakens

I can say that because pre-sales of movie tickets have already crushed any kind of record that The Hunger Games might have set. In fact, The Force Awakens has sold eight times as many tickets on the first day of pre-sale availability as 2012's The Hunger Games.

In fact movie ticket retailers were so swamped with the anxious and impatient movie-goer that several sites providing tickets crashed. Despite preparations for the traffic onslaught.

So now the secret is out... sort of.

See the latest movie trailer from SWtFA

Movie ticket pre-sales are a huge tool to gauge what your business base can be like, and it can also be used to beat your chest and pump up the marketing mojo of a movie. Otherwise, what would be the point of pre-sale tickets? At least this far in advance.

STAR WARS THE FORCE AWAKENS Official Trailer, And It Rocks...

Do I need to say anything more than what the title suggests, that this is the latest Star Wars The Force Awakens Official trailer? It's likely not the last, and if Disney holds true to what they've done to Marvel films, there may be some spoilers in here.. but what the heck, right?
