Well, BBC One has announced the holiday special for their Doctor Who title, called The Husbands of River Song...

In it we'll see Alex Kingston returning and River will be meeting her husbands new form of Peter Capaldi this Christmas in a snowy village somewhere, some when.

The special will air on December 25th.

Do you recall the headlines last week circulating about yet another baseless rumor about how The Flash and Supergirl might have a crossover? Yea, these wanna-be articles are getting fairly rampant, much like those baseless Dexter rumors last weekend.

But be it as it may, at a press event, exec producer Greg Berlanti was asked about any potential crossover between the guy in red tights and the girl in the short skirts, and the answer was...

"No, only because we just received the pick up. Not at this point."

Ever since Supergirl was announced, folks have been wondering if there will ever be a crossover episodes between this and The Flash or Arrow shows on The CW. Admittedly, since CBS owns sway over The CW, the chances are possible.  But it's like every year hearing about the return of Firefly... right now it ain't happening.

If I recall correctly, some time back when this was addressed, there's rumor that there's an angle that there was a crossover written into the contract of the new show.

PREDATOR Sequel Script Ready

PREDATOR Sequel news

If you are waiting for any kind of sequel to 20th Century Fox's Predator film franchise, they say that the script has been finished and turned in.

The script is being written by Fred Dekker (Star Trek: Enterprise, Edge, Tales from the Crypt), whose work resume mostly resides in the 80s and 90s, except for the 2015 TV movie, Edge, which netted a 6/10 on IMDb after about 500 votes.

The marketing spin for the script says that it is,

The writing is so fresh, the perspective is so fresh. I’m telling you you’re going to get something you don’t expect and you’re going to say, ‘This is the most entertaining way to reinvent a franchise.’

And to date, it's been referred to as a reboot, then a sequel. We'll see even of that quote seems to lean towards reboot. Like I said... the marketing spin. Right?

I'm a die-hard Predator fan, almost as much as I am an Iron Man fan.

THE FORCE AWAKENS News Byte, SUPERGIRL Season Order, TOP GEAR 2016 Premiere Date

I saw a headline noting that J.J. Abrams said that the ‘Force AwakensLightsaber Duels Will Look Nothing Like ‘Star Wars’ Prequels.  Which got me wondering how a sword fight won't look like a sword fight? Unless, like on the animated series, Star Wars Rebels, in one case, our star's light saber is both a light saber and a blaster.

What he's meaning is that his duels will be "more primitive" than what we saw in the prequels that no one liked.

Regardless, as you can tell, Disney and Abrams have been working at distancing themselves from the prequels by rarely mentioning a word about them, period.

Side note:  If you click on the pic above, you might notice the absence of Luke, despite seeing other classic older characters in the poster. I wonder if it's not Luke behind that mask? (Nope, I do not know.) I am merely taking a wild guess, considering how secretive Disney has been with promo material surrounding him. But then again, I've been dodging the myriad of TV spots that Disney has been swarming the airwaves with this month. I'd like to go into a movie experience with open eyes and not knowing what is happening next.

"DEXTER Returns" Is A Rumor, A False Headline

All of a sudden a bunch of sites have started reporting that Showtime is going to relaunch the popular series, Dexter. People are quite excited about the prospect of this show coming back on the air.

But I think a few websites are getting a bit carried away.

You see, Inquisitor reported that the show might be returning, via the article title, DEXTER RETURNS.  The article was based off another article from the website Screen Crush, where during a question and answer session during the Television Critics Association press tour folks from Showtime were asked about the return of Dexter.

And like any other show that people continue to chat about, many love to continue to beat a dead horse, like when you constantly hear about Joss Whedon's Firefly, etc., etc..

And if you have an eagle ear, you may notice that at many of these press tours when someone asks about the return of show "x," the answers are always geared about the show that was just asked about. The person answering always seems to say that they'd love to bring show "x" back but...

Some Arabic Indie Film News

via press release

Dubai, UAE. November 16, 2015. Despite a slow AFM, the Middle East distribution company FRONT ROW FILMED ENTERTAINMENT ends AFM by contracting 20 titles including the NICOLAS WINDING REFN produced remake “MANIAC COP” directed by JOHN HYAMS and the ANTONIO BANDERAS lead thriller “FAITH” from Wild Bunch. Both will be co-distributed with long-time associate Teleview International across the Middle East.

Front Row continues its long standing relationships with PROTAGONIST PICTURES by acquiring “THE DISCOVERY” starring NICHOLAS HOULT and Cannes Film Festival Best Actress winner ROONEY MARA; while from HANWAY FILMS the titles include the horror feature “THE DEVIL’S CANDY” which saw its premiere at this year’s TIFF, as well as the Lone Sherfig comedy drama “THEIR FINEST HOUR AND A HALF” starring Gemma Arterton, Sam Claflin and Bill Nighy; from EMBANKMENT FILMS the English language remake of the French horror (now cult classic) by the same name “INSIDE” produced by the same team that brought “Buried” and “Rec” as well as the epic “CHURCHILL” starring Golden Globe nominee BRIAN COX; while from SALT FILM, the high concept creature-feature “THE VOID” directed by Steven Konstanski and Jeremie Gillispie as well as high concept genre flick “THE NEIGHBOR” directed by Marcus Dunstan and written by Patrick Melton and also Marcus Dunstan who previously worked on smash hits such as SAW IV, V, VI and Saw 3D as well as The Collector and The Collection.

Front Row also managed to ink a deal with ALL RIGHTS ENTERTAINMENT’s “LITTLE MIZZ INNOCENT”, a $45 Mil project described as a female Bourne Identity action packed title starring Tyrese Gibson, Olga Kuryelenko, John Travolta and Christopher Plummer, all to be directed by Xavier Gens (Hitman).

Jesse Eisenberg Can Be A Smug Ahole, But He's Not Wrong About Some Critics

I came across a piece on EW where they talked about how Jessie Eisenberg (JE) wrote a fictional piece for The New Yorker (TNY) magazine riffing or ripping on movie critics.

Now admittedly when he scoffed at his horrifying experience at Comic-Con, comparing it to genocide, he started losing fans in that moment. He tried explaining it away a few days later, as expected..

So it started there. But now he wrote this fictional piece about being a film critic where now both he and the New Yorker are taking heat for the piece. (So when will the apologies for THIS begin?_)

Some of the things he says are kind of funny...

This week, I’m reviewing Paintings of Cole, which I didn’t like, because the press screening was all the way uptown, and there were huge delays on the J train,”

“Nonetheless, Paintings of Cole is easily the best movie of the year. I’m saying this only in the hope that the studio might print my name after a blurb on the movie poster... and I’ve always wanted to have my name on a movie poster. How cool would that be?

To be honest, it seems that Eisenberg's attitude is slowly bubbling to the surface as he gets more and more successful. And this latest "funny" bit reminds me of when Kevin Smith gave reviewers his proverbial middle finger during one of his film's releases, when he said "HJere's my press release. I'm not doing interviews and wasting my time with you." In so many words.

And right now, after that New Yorker piece some critics are fairly ticked at both JE and TNY.

MUST SEE - 1st Trailer for Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War”

About Captain America: Civil War.

This first trailer for Captain America: Civil War hits home the division that is about to take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's crazy, frustrating and that last scene in this trailer is just amazing...

via press release

Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) face off when an incident leads to the Avengers developing a schism over how to deal with situations, which escalates into an open fight between allies Iron Man and Captain America. See it here in the first epic trailer for Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War,” in theaters May 6, 2016!

FX has renewed the oddly curious, based on "real" events series, Fargo, for a third season!

Right now we're watching the second season that stars Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Patrick Wilson, Ted Danson, Jeffrey Donovan, Jean Smart, Nick Offerman, Brad Garrett and Kieran Culkin.

If you're watching you might have noticed the weight that Plemmons put on for this show... yikes.

Loving Patrick Wilson and Ted Danson in the show, and Jeffrey Donovan, at first glance, I did not recognize.

It's a confounding and entertaining series to far, with definite quirks and oddness coming out of 1979!

Felicia Day to The new MST3K

Felicia Day to The new MST3K

It looks like Felicia Day will be joining the cast of the new Mystery Science Theater 3000 series coming to a small screen near you soon. And if Joel Hodgson has his way, comedians  Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn  will be joining the show, to voice Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo.

If all goes according to plan.

Wait... did I say the new MST3K? Yep, I did.

Earlier in November I told you about MST3K's Kickstarter campaign where they needed $2M to finance three episodes. Then another $1.3M to finance three more episodes. And if they got to $5.5M, they would have a full season of 12 episodes of MST3K.

From there, Joel was hoping they'd get picked up by a network to continue the journey once again, beyond this single season of new riffing.

GAME OF THRONES Promo Has Jon Snow In It

So HBO has decided to go the obvious route after all the fan conjecture, and is using an image of Jon Snow in their promo art for the sixth season of Game of Thrones.

GAME OF THRONES Promo Has Jon Snow

The promo art shows Jon Snow (Kit Harrington). But...

Some websites are declaring this shows he is alive. Others have said he looks dead. Others suggested undead. OMG... ya just can't win.

So on a general scale of things, no one has really helped figure out the mystery of whether Jon Snow is dead or not.  And I'm sure that a myriad of fans have already picked apart the image and depending on one's belief, they'll see what they see.

I see one hell of a teaser that suggests that what ever we were believing is true.

ABCs MidSeason (Returning and Premiere) Dates Early 2016

Here are ABC’s midseason premiere dates, with shows returning from their midseason breaks, new shows premiering midseason, etc...

  Galavant  (Season 2 premiere)

  The Bachelor  (Season 20 premiere)

Marvel’s Agent Carter  (Season 2 premiere)

Vin Diesel announced that his own production company will be developing a new Riddick movie titled Furia and that he hopes to develop a TV series that takes place in Riddick's world/universe titled Merc City.

For Riddick fans, this is pretty great news!

Speaking of Vin Diesel, inside sources are claiming that Universal and Vin Diesel are considering developing ideas for a spinoff and more movies revolving around the Fast and the Furious world.

At the moment, three more movies, including the eighth of the franchise, are being developed.

Sad news of you're a 'Gavity Falls' fan.

Show creator Alex Hirsch is pulling the plug on the show and the next two episodes will be its last.

But what he says makes sense, and much like Kurt Sutter's approach to ending 'Sons of Anarchy,' Hirsh says that “There are so many shows that go on endlessly until they lose their original spark, or mysteries that are cancelled before they ever get a chance to payoff.”

For some venues, it is best to end on a high note than to be dragged out and then thought of as old, tiresome and boring rhetoric.

I just received a press release about a contest that MTV is holding, titled "Last Chance to Hang With Justin Bieber!" Um... no?  Though I'd love to see Miley Cyrus and Bieber locked in a closet and see who comes out the more sane of the two of them.

George Lucas on Why He Won't Make Another STAR WARS Film

When George Lucas sold his franchise to Disney, Lucas offered some scripts with his ideas for the franchise. Disney said thanks, but no thanks.

Yea George, we've seen your last three tries at kicking the franchise back into life and you gave us Jar Jar fucking Binks that we can NEVER unfucking-see/hear!  Thanks buddy.

Along those lines, this is almost funny, seeing George Lucas trying to inject himself back into the Star Wars mania.

But in the piece on Screen Crush, they spoke about a video interview with Vanity Fair and how Lucas lamented being picked apart for making movies, referencing his prequel trilogy. He went on to mention how he hopes that J.J. Abrams in 'The Force Awakens,' "doesn’t get muddled into a bunch of gobbledygook.” The implied part of that sentence is, “…like I did.”

In a more realistic (?) piece over on EW, titled "They weren't keen to have me involved," they actually remind us of Disney having discarded his treatments for upcoming films, deciding they were going to do their own thing.

Heroes And Villains FanFest Does Not Want Bloggers Coverage

Two days ago I just heard about a convention going on just down the street from me called 'Heroes and Villains FanFest' at the San Jose Convention Center. The convention seems to be a CW-based convention, with mostly stars from shows like 'Arrow' and 'The Flash.' And that's cool and all.

Most conventions welcome most bloggers but this one seems to have a different mind to the matter and my take-away is they don't want bloggers convening on the event.

I went to their press page to see if they would consider a late application but their press page says that "Press credentials are for professional reporters and media outlets that accompany a significant national, local, or genre specific exposure."

They further state that credentials will not be approved for bloggers with limited distribution.

NEXT with Nicolas Cage, A Movie Review (A Philip K. Dick Story)

NEXT movie review of the Philip K. Dick story adaptation.

'Next' is a 2007 movie starring Nicolas Cage, Julianne Moore and Jessica Biel.  And 'Supernatural's' Jim Beaver even has a part early on in the film. It's directed by Lee Tamahori (Mulholland Falls, Die Another Day) off a screenplay by Gary Goldman, based on a Philip K. Dick short story titled 'The Golden Man.'

'Next' only grossed $22M worldwide on its release, and IMDb users rated it at a 6.2/10.

But this film is a fantasy genre fan's dream of a sci-fi story. And this film may have been one of the first to muck with end-credits like Marvel does.  Well, probably not, but they do this quirky thing to the credits at the end.

Nicolas Cage has this presentation that does not really draw me in, and up until today I've only seen bits and pieces of the film on TV but for whatever reason I took the plunge and now that I have, I am definitely glad I did.

The basis of the story is about a man named Cris, who can see into his own future by around two minutes. Which is a pretty handy skill to have when you're in a fight or people are shooting at you. Or trying.

DEFENDOR with Woody Harrelson, A Film Review

DEFENDOR with Woody Harrelson film review
'Defendor' is a 2009 film starring Woody Harrelson, Elias Koteas, Sandra Oh, Kat Dennings, Michael Kelly and a few other surprise cast for this low-key, under the radar kind of action film. It was written and directed by Peter Stebbings ('Immortals, Saving Hope, Murdoch Mysteries, Rookie Blue, Bates Motel')

The reason I called 'Defendor' a low-key, under the radar kind of movie is that despite it's nearly $4M budget, it barely grossed under $50k domestically. But our peers on IMDb liked the film, giving it a 6.8/10 review score. I am not disagreeing with this assessment.

To be honest, though I watched it out of curiosity, I came away surprised by the tale this film tells.

Harrelson plays Arthur Poppington, a slightly mentally challenged, regular kind of man who adopts a superhero persona called 'Defendor', who patrols the dark and seedy city streets at night, in search of his arch enemy, Captain Industry. His primary weapons of choice include marbles (in the face and underfoot), a bat, angry wasps and he videos everything he does.

Even though he cruises the streets looking to end evil's ways, more often than not he ends up getting his ass kicked. On one of his more successful runs he saves a street girl (Dennings) from an abusive 'John,' who turns out to be someone associated with the local organized crime syndicate, a crooked cop named Dooney (Koteas).

EXECUTIONER Cancelled, Bay What?, CALL SAUL, THE SOUP, Banks, Fogle News And a Bit More

REMINDER: 'Jessica Jones' premieres on Netflix today, November 20th, 2015!

'The Bastard Executioner' has been cancelled by FX. That is good and bad news. This was the latest project from Kurt Sutter and I thought it was interesting that he jumped on the medieval time period bandwagon. So it's bad news the show is cancelled (if you liked it) but now it is good news for those of us waiting for that 'Sons of Anarchy' spinoff focused on 'The Mayans.'

To be honest Sutter has a great track record with modern-day darkness. It is something he translates into a relatable story for the audience. I guess we did not have the appetite for SOA with swords.

As Sutter put it, "The audience has spoken and unfortunately the word is "meh."" In another statement he said that no matter the content or passion, the bottom line is the numbers. Meaning TV ratings.

Hey, at least FX had the faith in him to let him run with 'The Bastard Executioner.'

Alexandra Daddario just joined Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson in... wait for it... wait...  yes, a movie version of 'Baywatch.' Well, Dwayne Johnson running around in shorts for two hours will probably make some demographic pretty happy.

'Better Call Saul' will be returning for the second season premiere on February 15th, 2016.

HER Film Review

Joaquin Phoenix in 'Her', a film review

I finally got around to watching 'Her,' starring Joaquin Phoenix, the voice of Scarlett Johansson, with smattering appearances of Chris Pratt, Olivia Wilde, Rooney Mara, Kristen Wiig, Amy Adams and the like.

It was written and directed by Spike Jonze.

The story revolves around Theodore (Phoenix), an emotionally handicapped, lonely man who lost his wife, meandering through life doing what single men do. Yes. Along the way he buys this operating system for his pocket computer, voiced by Johansson, that is the leading edge technology of operating systems, a self-learning OS. Whoa, quite self-learning. It names itself Samantha.

The lonely man starts interacting with Samantha via an ear-piece (No, he's not an Avenger), but as the film develops, you can see that this borders on an obscenely unhealthy level. Hell, later on, Samantha finds an 'OS sex surrogate' so Ted can have a body to fulfill too.

HER Film Review

He carries the pocket computer everywhere, making sure the camera points out his pocket so Samantha can see everywhere they go, and he even puts her on the bedside table so she can see him when he's sleeping.

'Frontier' is about the struggle to control the North American fur trade in the late 18th century.

Other cast includes Alun Armstrong, Landon Liboiron, Zoe Boyle and Allan Hawco.

AMC Keeps Dissing Glenn Fans on THE WALKING DEAD

Another week has gone by and AMC is keeping the tension high by intentionally not addressing the fate of Glenn on The Walking Dead.

Which means yet another week goes by where AMC is, in my opinion, trying this test to see if not hearing about Glenn will draw in more viewers as we keep wondering.

Or... AMC does not give a f*k about you and by keeping us in the dark about Glenn's final fate, is pretty much just saying f*k you.

'The Walking Dead' is a great show. It's a one-of-a-kind series, well, was before all the imitators piled in on the scene, but pretty much TWD has proven that you can take a disgusting subject like zombies and if you pepper it with great writing, the people will come.  AKA, if you build it, they will come.

And up until this season we've always had a great adversary for the group as they try to survive the fall of humanity.

Ridley Scott's Alien Confusion

When 'Prometheus' came out, it was the culmination of people's disappointment and expectations. Ridley Scott kept the press releases mysterious and annoying, and when the first 'Alien' prequel film, 'Prometheus' came out, it seemed his press releases were not quite on point, but they did their job, if that was the intent, to keep people talking about the movie.

Well, he's still at it, as he pitches the noise about the Prometheus sequel.

He was originally calling the sequel 'Alien: Paradise Lost' but now he's calling it 'Alien: Covenant.'

It's bad enough the first movie was about stupid-ass scientists who can't get a clue, but Scott keeps screwing the fans around and keeping us off balance. Not to mention that Scott chose to focus on this, Prometheus 2, ended up putting Neill Blomkamp's own 'Alien' sequel on hold.  (He was tapped to write a sequel to the original story line that included Alien and Aliens and what not.

Do you remember when I reviewed the TV series of'The Minority Report,' and in a later piece when I was predicting the show was doomed,I said that Megan Good had maybe three expressive modes to her acting?

Well, I was just sliding around the cable channels and came across the 2009 film called 'Unborn,' starring Odette Annable. While watching it I saw Meagan Good in it!

'Quantico' - Good, Confusing or On Spot?

I've been playing catch up on my DVR collection of first season episodes of 'Quantico,' and to be honest, I am not sure how much I like the show or not.

ABC's 'Quantico' makes sure to cover the basics for all the facets of tempting television. We get the sex, the action and the hot bodies shoved to the forefront.

The stories seemed to start out pretty basic and events setting up the season just felt too basic or too simple to engage my imagination.

But then the 'event' took place and the story started jumping back and forth between the immediate past and present and the time jumps are so abrupt that if you blink you could miss the time jump. They don't pamper the viewer when it comes to keeping up with past or recent events.

I do like the conspiracies that are being teased at, and that keeps the story interesting. But most of the characters are so basic, that without the underlying mysteries, the show would be boring, well, except for all the 'skin action.'

For now I'll keep watching 'Quantico,' but if the mysteries unravel, the show will unravel for me too.

What about you?

AMERICAN CRIME Returns, Scott Talks PROMETHEUS Sequel, FOX's 2016 Winter TV Schedule

American Crime is coming back for a second season, but this time around it will air on Wednesday nights at 10pm on ABC.  It is returning on January 6th.

The reason being that the difficult subjects the show deals with, ABC had to find a 10pm slot sometime during the week.

This, in the era of DVRs and time-shifted viewing, and we're still seeing old-school Nielsen Ratings and live airing time-slots.

Ridley Scott Says We will learn who created the Aliens in the Prometheus sequel, 'Alien: Paradise Lost.'

I wonder if this is anything like when he said Prometheus had nothing to do with Alien. Then Prometheus offers up the DNA of the Alien. To... well, when you see the movie, it's all about the Alien.

I'll believe it when I see it, which will more than likely be when it comes to PPV because after Prometheus, I'm not dropping a dime on a sequel about a dumbass scientist who wants to go to the home planet of the species that wants to kill humans.

Just saying.

MST3K Is Returning And Joel Hodgson Needs Your Help

MST3K Is Returning

This is Big 'MST3K' (Mystery Science Theater 3000) News And It Needs Your CrowdFunding Help. Plus I think Mr. Hodgson will be attaining some of not all of his goals!  KEEP READING to see why I think that!

Show creator Joel Hodgson is looking to bring back the show by having started a Kickstarter campaign for production. (It's about time!)

But there's a snag. Actually two or so snags but not too big that cannot be overcome by faithful fans.

Joel needs to meet his funding deadline by December 12th.

Joel's minimum goal is $2M, which will net us three new episodes.

At $3.3M, six; at $4.4M nine, and if he were to get $5.5M, he could give fans an entire season of 12 episodes of the riffing we've all come to love.

Anything over the $5.5M mark and Joel would be looking to shoot some of the shows live in front of some lucky studio audience.

-Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been cast for the evil role of Negan in 'The Walking Dead.' Wow... I like him and I've seen him in both good and evil modes. Be prepared to be truly pissed off at this character in TWD.  Arg.

FX has given 'American Horror Story' an order for a 6th season.  Yes, they renewed AMS.

This season's cast is fascinating, including Lady Gaga, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Wes Bentley, Matt Bomer, Chloë Sevigny, Denis O’Hare, Cheyenne Jackson, Evan Peters and Finn Wittrock.

Wow, I did not realize that AMS received 71 Emmy Award nominations and 13 Emmy Award wins during the first four seasons.

BTW, speaking of renewed, NBC renewed ‘Chicago Fire’ & ‘Chicago P.D.’

NBC renewed 'Blindspot' for a second season also!  I hope they can keep the mystery about her tatooes a nice intrigue factor without getting too over the top about it. That could get weary. They have a fine line to balance with this one.

Have you been watching 'Supergirl?' And are you as annoyed at her googly-eyed, no smarter than a teenager attitude about everything yet? I'm finding it hard to get past, but I would like to see if they evolve her beyond this girlie-teen mode and actually make her grow up and act like an adult someday.

'Star Wars The Force Awakens' Spoiler Clips and Trailers are COMING

Do you remember last week I posted what was 'the last' trailer for Star Wars, The Force Awakens?  Yea... J.J. Abrams left out the words domestic and clips.

I also warned you that if Disney does what Disney usually does, we are about to get beseiged by clips that start showing more scenes and potentially, spoilers from the plot, for those who like going into a movie with a pair of fresh, wide-open eyes.

Well, sure enough, earlier this week we got an international trailer that had a few more scenes than what we've seen previously.

And just now, a new TV spot has made its way online, with the headlines toutine 'more new, never-before-seen scenes.

So here we go.

I remember or 'Iron Man 3,' Disney spoiled the shit out that movie for me.  Not only did they double the number of trailers/clips for IM3 than the previous films, they started tossing solid spoilers into the marketing.
